The timing of talking up no deal when the HP has just voted it against it is not a coincidence- it is strategic. Johnson will go to the EU for another extension- he has no choice. And so it trundles on until a general election or a second referendum. But they won’t give another vote because Remain would win- even Moggs has admitted that.
As for the online critics- they have no answers either. FF would not do anything differently- mainly because there is nothing to do. It is a wait and see game. I spoke to someone who lives in Kent yesterday and she sees no evidence of preparations for it- at all.

RTE did suffer during the last recession, that is true, it made a loss of €65 million in 2012. But then they tried to turn things round and the economy began to recover. It made a €700,000 surplus in 2013, €200,000 surplus in 2014. Dee Forbes takes over in 2016. It makes a loss of €19m in 2016. It makes a loss of €6m in 2017 and last year, it makes a loss of €13m. According to insiders, it’s set to make another seven digit loss in 2019.
Dee Forbes has been selling off the jewels, Montrose land was sold for €108 million. They sold off spectrum in the UK and they’re looking at selling the RTE Guide. They have totally squandered the proceeds. They’ve made millionaires out of presenters in their early 50s with golden goodbyes, they spent €2 million upgrading Marconi House to be a creche for 70 RTE toddlers. They’ve been feathering their own nests. And now, the money is gone, or at least, it will be in the next 18 months.
So, what now, they’re suppressing news about the National Broadband Plan (no RTE News item on the recent NBP report). They’re not keeping tabs on the NCH. And has anyone from RTE asked if Regina has gone to the Circuit Court yet to contest the illegality of her actions. RTE ignores housing with its “environment correspondent” [which is supposed to cover housing, local govt and environmental issues] missing in action. It’s news and current affairs is at the community radio and local TV standard.

Most of the papers cover the funeral of the punk who has become the first fatality in the fight for the €100,000-a-week drug business around Drogheda, Meath and south Louth.
Have any of our brave media asked what cars the deceased, a 29-year old thug who was fired from his baggage handling job at Dublin airport in 2017, was driving, how many cash businesses he was “managing”, how much that holiday mobile home in Carlingford was worth and how he was affording an extension? Of course not, “he was a bubbly character, full of life, who made a big impression on his family and was loved deeply by them.”
Even the estimable Peter Murtagh at the Irish Times leaves his journalistic credentials outside the church.
All of our media are quoting the local Garda superintendent claiming the guards are making great progress. Remind us again, Garda, is it true there hasn’t been any significant drugs seizure (>€50k) for over a year, despite the two gangs selling around €100,000 a week? And that any assets seized were for car tax and related offences? And the day of action on the eve of the local elections in May was around car tax and motoring offences even though you painted it as an anti-gang initiative? And none of the gang leaders has been jailed? And that the gangs have amassed more than €5 million in the past year alone?
