It would be nice to name the link :) For those wondering, it is a great song: The Church – Under The Milky Way

Directly about stars, I think my current favourite is Kelis and Little Star. While not about a specific star, I do like it. I like the idea that while someone may think themselves unimportant, they are important to someone. Just as our star is a ‘little’ star in stellar terms, it is kind of important to us :)

Honourable mention to Clouds Across The Moon, which I always liked. First sheet music I bought was for this song, although I could do without the silly spoken bits from the interstellar operator.

And in third place for me would the Wishing on a Star by rose Royce.

Probably showing my age in these, but at least I did not mention Swinging on a Star by Old Blue Eyes :)

Sadly, I cannot make the 27th, though, so I must absent myself from the competition.

I had not heard that before. Is it from and album, as I do not recall it being released. I never purchased a Marc Almond LP as I had little money and saved it for those bands I preferred. Lovely music, I must admit. Thank you for introducing me.

You people are crazy, it’s Starry Starry Night, Don McLean
Apart from being fantastic lyrically and musically you could very easily draw a line from Don’s singing in this song directly to Torquil’s singing on Set Yourself on Fire (you’d have to make a brief stop-off at Morrissey considering the blatantly Morrissey-equee track Take Me To The Riots….which may have been on the follow up album)
I refuse to believe this album came out in 2004.

An absolute classic! I would never have traced the connections, not being a fan of The Smiths or Morrisey, but I take your point.

I wonder, did Mr Sniebly’s (Jack Black) blackboard from School of Rock tracing the roots and connections of rock ever get produced in a form that it can be viewed? Be great to see a copy, and add/update it for a newer generation.

I’d love to have the time to sit and trace something like that out
I love when you listen to an old track you’ve not heard before and you realise how much it must have influenced something you’re listening to
My most controversial of links is Brian Wilson to Animal Collective , but I will always stand by it

“Brian Wilson to Animal Collective” Interesting, and I can see why controversial. Care to share? Lacking an encyclopaedic knowledge of music and musicians that others claim (and some actually have), I am keen to learn, and promise not to knock.

The Age of Aquarius by the 5th Dimension.
    So very 1969.
Can also be enjoyed without mind altering substances.

    Peace, man.

it has to be the theme to Star Wars. It’s an incredible piece of music and the very definition of iconic. Put it on right now, if it doesn’t bring a smile to your face then you should book yourself in for a complete nervous system transplant.
On the personal note, when me and the missis got married it was our entrance music into the meal. Everyone cracked up. In fact I know of no context where the theme to Star Wars is not appropriate.

I know it’s not the most inventive answer but I would really love to hear ageless beauty and your ex lover is dead (by stars, see, I mentioned stars, they’re star related) in the tiny confines of the workman’s. Can I have the tickets please??!!
