So Boris Johnson’s plan around NI is pretty similar to the one the EU first proposed?

What’s that about making your opponent think your plan is actually his own?

Headline of the Daily Express is gas:

“Could BoJo have the answer to solve the Brexit deadlock?”

      – well yes, if you mean the deal that was proposed by his predecessor months ago that he initially voted for, then voted against. But it is a strange way to phrase it…

Welcome to Irish, the land of zero worker rights, where 3,000 workers can be laid off, without consultation at the drop of a hat, by billionaires who want to blackmail an unorganised group of farmers into accepting below-cost prices for their goods. This is Ireland in 2019.

    1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

If you think there are Zero worker rights in Ireland you are deluded.

Have you ever tried to fire someone?

      1. martco

no of course @MaryLou so instead to mitigate that messy rights stuff we employ “contractors” whom we can use or not use at will per terms of contract….be it the fella serving you that Americano in your favourite coffee shop or the Systems Orkiteckt being sent in by IBM to talk you into some cloud implementation gubbings.

on your brexit comment above -what did you make of that footage of Arleeeeen literally bounding like a spring lamb out of the meeting with bojo yesterday? she looked mighty pleased. my money is on 100% hard exit.

yes@Cian..and the bucketloads of helpdesk lads out there on 180pd zero day paperwork too I hope? (I presume their blood is the same colour as the lads who’ve managed to pass more of their prometric tests?)

I expect the real reason this is coming to a head right now is that most beef is exported to Britain and the farmers are getting badly squeezed by the exchange rate.

And, as a Brxiet strategy, the power and control is being consolidated within the barons- this industry is going to be one of the hardest hit by tariffs after all- it will need subvention to survive.

      1. some old queen

Oh I agree paddy- what they really need is to setup a co-op but it is too late for that now. I mean your man wouldn’t even allow an interview at the same time as the farmer’s rep last night.

According to the Telegraph, Bojo has ordered detailed feasibility studies on a bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland.

There is such waste in British politics at present, with sham negotiations and sham reports.

The DUP have been remarkably upbeat this week, but the fact they demanded a 1-hour meeting with Bojo belies the smiles afterwards. Also, the fact is, they are largely irrelevant to Bojo’s numbers after all the resignations.

    The Telegraph reports
“Boris Johnson is considering plans for a regulatory border in the Irish Sea as he seeks a new Brexit “divorce” deal with the EU.

The Prime Minister wants an all-Ireland zone for checks on most goods crossing between the north and south of the island as part of a deal that would remove the need for a Northern Irish backstop.”

I would think the strategy is that no deal will force Ireland into a compromised position within the EU and that it would be ROI who will have to police the border- not UK. .

Who at the time of the drafting of the GFA ever imagined that it would tie the UK in such knots as see such self inflicted harm as the only way out.

    It’s 5:3 !

After being sued by the brother of Veronica Guerin on Monday, everyone’s favorite anti-unicornist returns the favour and, on Tuesday, she herself sued Jimmy Guerin.

It’s really quite incredible that any one can notch up eight separate defamation cases, seven at the High Court and one at the Circuit Court, all of which are ongoing.

    1. some old queen

Ireland’s foremost critic of hate speech legislation or rules is also setting a record for defamation cases taken.

Contradiction writ large- I can say what I want- but you can’t.

Shinners may be in line for another £1 million more from the will of William Hampton. After already receiving £1.5 million so far, the BBC reports “according to the Probate Registry of Wales, the will was worth £2.5m, suggesting another £1m worth of assets still have to be dispersed.”

As reported in the London Times last weekend, 40 years ago, Willie cut his willy off in the street with a kitchen knife. Sound mind!

I bought a Fall Out Boy album once, I think I played it as many times, back when I’d buy music before hearing it… remember those days? …good times mostly, this was a bad one.
    Disappointing doesn’t even begin…
