The Storm by Big Country, hands down my favourite storm related song.
My favourite version is from their Without The Aid of a Safety Net tour, live at the Barrowlands in Glasgow, before they brought out the loud guitars :)
Link if for the whole concert, The Storm starts about 14:45 minutes, and if I did this right, the link should play there. I love this concert so much, it is a bookmark, as well as having the album!

The live version of Neil Young’s Like a Hurricane, from Weld. It goes on forever, yet you don’t want it to stop. Played loudly, after a few beers and you don’t care what the weather’s like outside. Fantastic.
All time classic from the greatest band of all time with Shane Lynchs sister in it

That was my mother’s favourite song! I recently heard Judy Garland’s version, and it moved me to tears as that was her favourite version.

Kate Tempest – Tunnel Vision
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4qGLDkK9TA
Existence is futile, so we don’t engage
But it was our boats that sailed, killed, stole, and made frail
It was our boots that stamped
It was our courts that jailed
And it was our f***in’ banks that got bailed
It was us who turned bleakly away
Looked back down at our nails and our wedding plans
In the face of a full-force gale, we said
“Well, it’s not up to us to make this place a better land
It’s not up to us to make this place a better land”
Justice, justice, recompense, humility
Trust is, trust is something we will never see
Till love is unconditional
The myth of the individual has left us disconnected, lost, and pitiful
I’m out in the rain
It’s a cold night in London
And I’m screaming at my loved ones to wake up and love more
I’m pleading with my loved ones to wake up and love more
Having trouble posting . Testing.

The Commitments (Angeline Ball singing) did a very creditable version of this too!
And it stoned me by Van Morrison. A glorification of getting pissed on, then getting pissed, wrapped up in a tale of boyhood freedoms and set to a killer soul tune.

I just realised that probably the most obvious song has not been included yet; Singing in the Rain! A great song, brought to perfection by Morcambe and Wise. Sorry for the poor quality, but still the best video version I could find:

I did see a rainbow today, but it was because the folks on the building site next to the office were spraying water for some technical reason I don’t understand.

What? 72 replies and nobody’s thought of It’s Raining Men? Surely the obvious song on a day when we’ve been visited by a storm with such a gigilous name as Lorenzo?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe – Didn’t it rain
The “Godmother of Rock and Roll” , this wonderful performance comes from an American Folk Blues Tour in England in 1964, this recording comes from Manchester. A five decades long career starting in 1919 inspired many more greats that followed in her footsteps.Voice, showmanship and guitar playing, she had it all. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 as an “early influence”, and what an influence, she inspired Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and many more that followed in their footsteps. Next Wednesday , 9th of October, is the 46th anniversary of her passing in 1973.

First line.
Flash and the Pan’s ‘Walking in the Rain ‘ from 1978 has a gritty urban feel to it that still sounds fresh today. Even Grace Jones covered it ‘Feeling like a woman, looking like a man’

SummerBreeze by the Isley Brothers is a 70s rock-soul classic with its distinctive crisp fuzz tone lead guitar. The original by Seala and Croft is not half bad either

And this makes it 100 posts! Many thanks to all our readers for so many memorable and enjoyable entries.
‘The Jeremy Spencer Band – Cool Breeze’ sounds like it could be straight off a 70s Fleetwood Mac album. Of course Jeremy Spencer was the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist who famously went AWOL while on tour with the band in the States, joined ‘The Children of God’ cult and never played for Fleetwood Mac again

scorpion winds of change. Was there ever a better whistly bit in a song? (ooh that could make a good competition)
I seem to recall that that whistly bit was used in a spy film as the unlock code to a sound triggered safe. That’s about all I can remember from the film, if it even existed!
Surprised there were no votes for the Temptations or Faces with “I wish it would rain”, or Carole King’s “Might as well rain until September 2020”.
Come on in my kitchen. Check larkin poe’s version:

Lilly2, as I said yesterday, could you not rechristen yourself. Plenty of names to choose from…
Lilly2? For a moment there I thought you were going all Logan’s run on us :-)
Haha, #LivingMyBestLife – I might have to change my name, which is a nuisance. I’ve had the same moniker on BS forever. Remember at one stage there were at least 3 Annes? ‘Twas confusing. At least Lilly2 gave us a nice tune.
He! Sorry Lilly, my little one wanted to post about unicorns and I forgot to change my name back. don’t worry she won’t be stealing your broadsheet crown anytime soon..
Ah ha! No apology necessary Scottser. We Lillies like our unicorns. I thought it was Memes messin’.

Tame Impala – Jeremy’s Storm
Set fire to the Rain by Adele
Darn you Nick (shakes fist in mock frustration)! I had hoped to get work done today, but instead my weekend will be taken up in listening to all these great songs (except Jarvis) and the occasionally YouTube random link.
Which, rather bizarrely, ended up here, with an Abba, Olivia Newton John and Andy Gibb mixup from some show, likely late 70s early 80s. Surprisingly fun :) And I just had to share, so you can all waste your weekends too! Blame Nick, it’s all his fault.
