So what’s happening with all the money provisioned for no deal Brexit if we have a deal now.

Brexit was a great cover for the ineptitude in managing the finances of the state and the daw jawed Irish electorate go along with it because they are that inept themselves these political filth bags are actually smarter then them.

    we will never fix stupid.

    1. V

Where all the other “allocated” 000000000s go
Recycled over into next year’s budget speech (Budget 2020)

Like the “allocated to Brexit” 3 Billion this time three years ago
It’s just a bullet point for the teleprompter, and a bitta spin for the bhoys

It’s not like real yo-yos that are on DD to the various Depts to make payroll etc

I know the independent is an illiterate shite rag but the contrast there is unbearable.

Up to recently most of the papers were free read through pressdisplay library this trick seems to have closed any workarounds?

“Shoulder to shoulder” – shame the other lot were head and shoulders above.

    Disappointing. Irish rugby hubris.

    1. Steph Pinker

Rugby is a sport; the ‘hubris’ to which you refer should be contextualised regarding the dire circumstances within which many people are subjected to on a daily/ nightly basis – whether it be homelessness/ rental abuse, the HSE, mental health, the [illegal abuse of] PSC, NCH (5 billion), NBP (another 5 billion) – and Our politicians’ salaries.

As much as I love sports, to see a 5 year-old eating food sitting on cardboard on one of the most prominent and wealthiest streets in Dublin, is sickening – it’s about priorities – especially for FG.

Let me clarify: it’s about FG priorities with FF hiding in the ditch waiting for their own opportunity; it’s disgusting to observe and to live in a society such as this.

It’s desperate – but people will still vote for them.

  5. White Dove

I love the monkey family on the cover of the Guardian so so much.

    Horrible paper otherwise though!

        1. White Dove

          Chavvy trash lol!

Such a Guardian person comment… the Guardian writers are the boring licks and squares from school – they used to be conservative, now they are liberal, but the sour, righteous tone and air of pretentious superiority remains the same…

No positivity, no openness to new ideas, hate anything that challenges their worldview.

Incidentally, their dating section always featured the least life-affirming people ever. Connected?

I like Broadsheet, not the Mail or the Guardian. A very special place with great commenters.

    1. GiggidyGoo

It’s Collins who needs to be sanctioned. He was the one who repeatedly pressed the button? By the way, did no one in the dail itself notice?
So this must be some sort of standard practise? FF bring the dail into disrepute. How many other votes passed in this manner?

    Dear Broadsheet,

Who won the Odeon Halloween tickets from about 2 weeks ago?

It’s a game of ball, Joe. Some perspective wouldn’t go amiss.

    1. shayna

To be fair Lilly, it’s kinda his job. I know nothing about rugby – I’m a GAA type – however, any time someone pulls on a green geansai – I’ll support them.

      1. Lilly

I suppose so. Heartbreak and my 9-5 tend not to go hand in hand, but as you say, don the green jersey and emotions run high. I’m sorry for them but no bones were broken.

I wouldn’t take this kinda BS too seriously.

I see Clinton is still up to her poisonous ways across the pond this time with baseless smears of Democratic primary runner Tulsi Gabbard and former Green party presidential candidate Jill Stein as “Russian assets” – but Tulsi’s not having it and is taking the gloves off! On her twitter account:

‘Great! Thank you Hillary Clinton . You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain. From the day I announced my candidacy, there has been a concerted campaign to destroy my reputation. We wondered who was behind it and why. Now we know — it was always you, through your proxies and powerful allies in the corporate media and war machine, afraid of the threat I pose.

It’s now clear that this primary is between you and me. Don’t cowardly hide behind your proxies. Join the race directly.’

What, I say, marvellous discourse over there in the colonies, I hope that it may, like Californians, beam sunshine, glory, positive vibes and hope into your every waking minute and them same of those you are around.

    2. Nigel

The real race is between someone at one percent and someone not running? She might be in with a chance so.

      1. f_lawless

Can’t defend the indefensible from Clinton so have a snipe at Gabbard as irrelevant? It’s apparent to anyone paying attention that in modern day politics certain polls have been used time and time again as a tools to try to sway public opinion rather than accurately represent it. If she was really polling at a irrelevant 1% she wouldn’t have been the candidate most searched for on Google during the debates back in July and again in the most recent one – despite being given only about 8 minutes speaking time, a third of the time Warren had. She was also the most tweeted about candidate too with 68% more tweets than those about Biden, the second most tweeted about candidate.
        https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/gabbard-again-most-googled-candidate-slams-despicable-cnn-nyt-1.7993106

        1. Nigel

Sooo…. we’re relying on social media metrics to gauge popularity in the run up to a US election, are we? That should be… reliable.

(I don’t care much about Gabard and while Clinton’s implication is kinda outrageous, it’s actually not particularly outrageous by current US election standards and I’m sure Gabard appreciates the outrage-attention. Wasn’t she endorsed by David Duke?)

          1. V

            But shur’ why not Nidgie?
Rely on SM metrics & counts
There’s even a fancy award dinner dance here for such campaigns, @accounts and biggest influencer in Irish Country Music
            And what have you

Social Media ran Trump’s last campaign
And it got the result it wanted; even if it was by accident

Now before you start falling out with me
AFAIC all the colours of American Politics are about as safe and trustworthy as a fried egg sitting in the Spar Deli since Friday Morning
And the sellotape keeping my bumper on has more staying power than their loyalty to Democracy and Integrity

Personally I think we’re looking at a Biden Clinton (C) challenge to Trump

The rest are just making sure they’re all still there or there abouts in 2024.
Ha! A bit like all our own blowholes here last year giving themselves blisters making sure they got to tell us they “weren’t running at this time”

At least our crowd are the kinda rogues divils and chancers we can tackle ourselves –

            America is ____ed

          2. Nigel

Ah, remembering social media hits from 2016 such as ‘spirit cooking,’ ‘she’ll be dead by December’ and ‘she’s ordering children from the basement of a pizzeria.’ No wonder they want her to run again, they could say literally anything about her and people would believe it. What glories await us next year!

          3. V

I’d be careful now about gloating down our noses at the Septics

We’ve a few beauts of our own who are dab hands themselves at igniting hashtag outrage

          4. f_lawless

@V seems to me like things are playing out in a similar way to 2016. . Rather than field a true progressive like Sanders or Gabbard, who would move to end the funding of endless regime change wars and curtail Big Pharma’s hold over healthcare, the corporatist element of the Democratic establishment will use every method they can to try to make sure one of their preferred candidates gets the nomination. And for all the hand wringing they may do if an uninspiring Democratic candidate doesn’t gain enough public votes and Trump gets re-elected, that to them would be a better outcome than the likes of Gabbard becoming president. IMO

@Nigel – just because US political discourse is being brought to the gutter by some there’s no need for you to indulge in it too! You’re just repeating another baseless media ‘smear by association’ of Gabbard.
            According to Gabbard:
‘ “I have strongly denounced David Duke’s hateful views and his so-called ‘support’ multiple times in the past, and reject his support” ‘

‘ “Publicizing Duke’s so-called ‘endorsement’ is meant to distract from my message: that I will end regime-change wars, work to end the new cold war and take us away from the precipice of a nuclear war, which is a greater danger now than ever before.” ‘

          5. Nigel

It’s not really a smear though is it? Good for her for denouncing him, and since he also endorsed Ilhan Omar he’s obviously a troll, but she’s also beloved by Bannon, Breitbart and Tucker Carlson. They’re just dying for her to run as a Dem-hating third party candidate.

I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Sanders win but the idea that he will acheive all that seems like wishful thinking. No doubt he’d do some good though.

          6. V

They’re all going to be useless Presidents

America needs to stop letting all this noise getting in the way of taking a hard look at itself

America is responsible for the majority of Nobel Laureates
America (apparently) has the highest number of successful Start Ups
And is the location for 14 of the top 20 Universities in the World
It has the most successful entertainment and music industry artists and the biggest number of bestselling authors
It has produced more more Olympic Gold Medalists than anywhere else on the Planet and holds more World Records
And is the home to more Billionaires than anywhere else

Surely t’ Christ they can find someone – whatever their inherent and naturally instinctive Political strain may be, that is of Leadership quality

There is not one stand out
In an country with an eligible to vote population of circa 240 million

All they can get to put themselves up in front of the people are either rotten with corruption and layered in overcoats of years of greasy smokey political two-stepping, or smothered by their own self esteem and sense of entitlement, and or the Political equivalent of a smarty pants b-list YouTube celebrity

            On any side
There isn’t one contender Presidential pretender that doesn’t make you go meh

          7. Man On Fire

“Man who doesn’t know what he’s talking about..”

Lol says the contrarion who backed Hillary in 2016, who lost..

Than Biden, whose campaign is folding like a deck chair.

And now liar flip flop would be loser Elizabeth Warren.

Yea, well done. 4 more years of Trump thanks to corrupt inept Democrats.

          8. V

            Here Nidgie
I have a preference for Bernie Sanders myself
But his work and worth is in the campaign itself

The speeches, the rallies, the great debates, and the ideas, and counter arguments that’ll give unrepentant globalist lackies and their masters plenty of comeuppance.

            And that’s it
America loves to quote from, cheer on, march with and write songs about charasmatic leaders like Bernie Sanders
Feic it, Aaron Sorkin created a Billion Dollar genre out of the market for Socialist Left of Centre Civil and Equal rights Men of the People characters

            But that’s it
The moment it gets real it ends

Jimmy Carter being one of the more useful (and less Civil Right Hero Idols like the Kennedys, MLK ) example

I’m still looking at Biden Clinton

          9. Nigel

My God, MoF, what are you on about? I’d certainly ‘back’ any of them rather than Trump, but you backed Trump, were delighted that Trump won and have defended Trump ceaselessly.

          10. V

Well if you’re pointing fingers Man Oh’
            Over here

            I backed Hillary too
I gave money to her campaign
I even wrote to Bill when he was Governor of Arkansas

And have Bill Clinton Library Beany Baby. Frill Clinton (*_*)

          11. Man On Fire

            No you didn’t V..

            Nigel however, did..

            And than talked up Biden..

And is now all excited about phoney Warren..

          12. Nigel

Um, Gabbard’s only relevance will be if she runs as a third party candidate, effectively a spoiler for the Dem nominee? Beyond that…

And I’ve never ‘talked up’ Biden, I think I said one, maybe two, positive things about Warren, and I ‘backed’ Clinton in the sense that I wanted her to win against Trump in the same way I will want whoever gets the Dem nomination to win against Trump in 2020. You’ve a weird, but predictably divisive, way of looking at things MoF.

          13. Man On Fire

She would be a shoe in for Sanders vp. She has publicly backed Sanders and is polling above Harris. She is relevant you just don’t like it.

Probably because CNN tells you so.

And you have talked up Biden, and Harris and since they’re on the decline you’ve jumped to Warren.

          14. Man On Fire

            A previous comment of yours:

“Will you support the dem nomination if it’s not Tulsi..”

You’ve never liked her because your a Russia-gater..

You pumped, and still clearly do, a failed conspiracy theory for 2+ years about Russia interfering in 2016.

And all to hide the fact that the dems are so corrupt and inept they lost to a game show host.

          15. Nigel

You’re a liar, I’ve never ‘backed’ Biden I’ve never mentioned Harris and I’ve barely mentioned Warren beyond anticipating endless Pocahontas bull if she gets the nomination. I don’t know what that quote is supposed to prove. You are seriously stuck in a very narrow rut.

I’d say the chances of Sanders picking someone so divisive for VP are slim, but who knows?

          16. Man On Fire

            So you can’t answer.

            You’re just parroting CNN/MSNBC.

Red baiting is the new norm these days for inept republicans masquerading as Democrats.

          17. V

            Oh dear
Someone needs to have the talk with Man Oh’

Although t’was three ‘ish years ago, and a different era althogher
This is the actual 1st entry into the FK archive over there on the wall; https://www.broadsheet.ie/2016/11/11/frilly-on-friday-shoulder-to-shoulder/
Some of ye might remember there were a few more during the FK probation period
If ye can dig them up, the best part were the comments
But there was definitely a Hillary for President something in there somewhere..
            Look it
            Different times

            V

  11. Man On Fire

    And I’m not lying..

That quote is yours so own it.

You don’t like her because CNN say she is a Russian puppet.

Another bogus conspiracy theory which your all over as per usual.

    1. Nigel

You are lying. I’m happy to own that quote but still don’t know how you think it proves….anything. Did CNN really call her a Russian puppet? In so many words? Or are you lying about that too?

      1. Man On Fire

I’m not lying, and your happy to own so if the hat fits..

Now you play possom and claim ignorance..

        Lamentable.

          1. Nigel

You preferred him to Clinton. You celebrated when Barr announced his ‘exoneration’ prior to the publication of the Mueller report. (Which also concluded that there was Russian interference in the 2016 election in Trump’s favour, now that I think of it.) You love to taunt people who dislike him that he’s going to win four more years. You seem to like him plenty. Liars like liars.

          2. Man On Fire

I celebrated Russia gaters getting outed for the conspiracy nutjobs that they were.

            I never once celebrated Trump.

          3. Man On Fire

But how did the investigation conclude that Russian interference took place by the Trump campaign?

What was the method used to interfere in the election?

          4. Nigel

If you really want to know you should probably read the Report, or just go back to the comments here when it was released. After that if you have specific issues with the report, get back to me.
