GTR is based in Dublin but also has locations in counties Louth and Monaghan.

The spokesperson said the trailer leased on 15 October from Global Trailer Rentals’ yard in Co Monaghan at a rate of €275 per week until it is returned.

The company has contacted the incident team in Essex police directly and gave them information about the person and company that leased the trailer.

So many questions. What kind of idiot would put people in a refrigerated trailer and expect them to survive the trip? Also since Chinese people can fly here freely to study English, why would they pay for such risky passage? Why were they so desperate to leave China? I know a couple of Chinese people living here and they don’t describe it as hellish.

At 1:04 minutes into the ITN video, it shows the inside of the trailer. Looks like the cargo was a crate. No refrigeration would have been turned on therefore, but the media in their attempt to increase sales will report it as if was.
With unaccompanied trailers, the collecting driver needs documentation, and it’s common practice to put those documents in the back of the trailer. I’d suspect the driver collected the trailer, opened the back to get the documents, and found the horror, and phoned the emergency services.
In the meantime, someone somewhere knew that this trailer wasn’t full with cargo, wasn’t carrying refrigerated cargo.

I had an argument with someone that the drivers doesn’t check the cargo, thanks for prooving me right. what person in their right mind wouldn’t check it, far too risky not to.

Drivers don’t check sealed containers. Common practice to put the documentation in the back of the trailer? Who told you this?

What would drivers be checking for? The seal is the safe guard that the driver doesn’t need to check the container.

I believe that refrigerated trailers are air-tight. So even if they are not turned on – there is a limited amount of air.
