Dammit – I was going to choose that! (Isn’t she lovely?)
Now I have to pick the theme to Ghost Dad with Bill Cosby – which doesn’t even feature the old rogue – or the required lyrics!

Some Say the Divil is Dead

“My wife, she has a hairy thing, a hairy thing, a hairy thing.
My wife, she has a hairy thing, she showed it to me Sunday.”
I have to go for Paul Evans ‘Hello, This is Joannie’ – an upbeat number with a neat little twist near the end.
So spoiler alert, he’s phoning his girlfriend after they had a fight, and eventually gets a call to say she died in a car crash, so he calls her again in order to hear the voice of his now-dead girlfriend.
The entire song sends chills down my spine, probably not in the way it was intended, because even when he’s phoning to hear the ghost voice of his girlfriend, the song remains extremely f**king upbeat.

I remember when that came out. Was a while before I noticed the sad message under the great tune! Thanks for the memory :)
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Song to the Siren – This Mortal Coil

The Cranberries – Zombie (when in grown up mood)
Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr. (when in a messin’ mood) My mam still makes her grown son do this dance…
Beelzeboss Final Showdown – Tenacious D.
It’s got everything required for a solid hallowe’en rock tune – Licks, Chops and a Rock-off contest with a Horned Immortal Devil with the most nightmarish of threats on losing said Rock-off, appropriate and understandable level of swearing, lightening, loss of a horn, portals of hell, all that in one tune.

Ok, does not really mention ghosts or ghouls or whatnot, but in the spirit of things, I say we should all do the Time Warp again :)

No collection of this nature would be complete without some toe tapping, foot stomping fiddle playing!
The Devil Went Down To Georgia – The Charlie Daniels Band:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBjPAqmnvGA
The Psychadelic Furs, The Ghost in You, from Mirror Moves. The opening bars immediately transport me back to my teens, when me and a guy called Andy were the only Furs fans in my school. Still sounds fresh and has a lovely melody. Underrated album. Still have the original vinyl. Happy days. Not very spooky I’m afraid. BTW. Still have Japan’s Ghosts on 12 inch single. In hindsight, overrated, pretentious and slightly comical on hearing again. Cool cover though.
Because of a single word in the video (but not the song) can I sneak in a little Man of Constant Sorrow by The Soggy Bottom Boys:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZtgZ5fHOuU
i may have divulged this before, but when i were a nipper i used to play my aunt’s singles on her portable record player. this one used to give me the horn, ‘dracula’s daughter’ by screaming lord sutch:

Spanish Train – Chris de Burgh
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnaUvPoiTfQ
No, no, I know, I know, but stay with me here.
Whatever your thoughts on Chris and the bulk of his work, the man can tell a story through music. A what better story, then the classic battle of Good and Evil.
“The sun is down and the night’s riding in”
It is a super song and full of good/evil drama and imagery.
Absolutely! The man was a story teller!

Steve Vai is The Man!
The classical piece is by Paganini who was also reputed to have sold his soul to the devil
I did not know that! Cool bit of trivia, and nice link :)
There are several tunes in the Irish tradition that are considered deeply unlucky. One is Cailín Deas Crúite na mBó in relation to any journey – superstitious people turn back from the door if they hear it played when they’re starting a journey. This is a tradition that a priest heard it being played and was so entranced by its beauty that he delayed going to give a dying person the last rites; when he finally arrived he was too late…
Sí Beag, Sí Mór is thought equally unlucky because it is music reputed to have been heard by a fiddler passing a a mound of the Good People and hearing them competing in music.
And King of the Fairies, by the same token, is supposed to have been given to a fiddler by the same people as a thank-you for playing for their dancing for a long night.
It is your fault! I am blaming you for forcing me to relive the flares!

It’s apparently really a song about brushing your teeth, but presumably in a really satanic way.,,
Ha…good shout!
Whoaaaah, al I want, ooo-oohhh–oo-oh-oh-oh!
I suppose The Misfits have a plethora of eligible songs but ‘Astro Zombies’ is as good as any. A good, wholesome family sing-a-long number https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZJPPOLBDcc
Lullaby of London: The Pogues.
May the ghosts that howl round the house at night never keep you from your sleep, may they all sleep tight down in hell tonight or wherever they may be….
This song gets me every time, I love how it encapsulates the loneliness and solitude of separation and distance.
Yet another example of why Shane Mc Gowan is a national treasure.

Hero – Michael Kiwanuka

It has to be Scary Monster’s by David Bowie
https://youtu.be/NHywdqH3F6Y
She had an horror of rooms, she was tired, you can’t hide beat
When I looked in her eyes, they were blue but nobody home
Well, she could’ve been a killer if she didn’t walk the way she do
And she do
She opened strange doors that we’d never close again
Killing Joke – On All Hallows Eve
A unusual track, it’s soft and upbeat verses and chorus, strong steady beat and soft/hard lead guitar sections. Instead of demons and ghosts rising from the dead to haunt the living world this song imagines these two worlds converging and a reunion of those lost souls who once filled our lives. While listening it’s hard not to think of some of those souls, to be reminded of the small cracks they left in our hearts, that sting that has replaced their presence. The tempo of the track allows you to do that and it gives it a certain resonance.
Killing Joke formed in 1978 in Notting Hill, London. Their initial style was industrial rock and they played a part in influencing such bands as Metallica, Nirvana and the Nine Inch Nails. As the years passed their style softened and they brought some electronic elements into their songs. They have produced 19 albums, On All Hallows Eve is taken from their 2012 album, MMXII
“At last the dark years of grieving come to an end.
Old haunts and habits invoking loved ones and friends.
The graveyards forgotten, the churches are empty now.
I recall the times past and how much I miss you all.
Wake up! Reborn! Join in and celebrate!
Make noise! Wake up the great dead with reverence.
On all hallow’s eve.
Endless drumming; rituals to wake up the dead.
Bring gifts and spirits, good wine- just cheese and some bread.
Incense of cigars and spices, pleasures we shared.
Light up the graveyards to show how much we all care.
Wake up! Reborn! Join in and celebrate!
Make noise! Wake up the great dead with reverence.
On all hallow’s eve..”

Apologies for the double post, it was late!
Iron Maiden, number of the beast,.
It even has Vincent Price doing the intro.
VINCENT PRICE, PEOPLE!!
You reminded me of The Frantics- Werewolf from 1960
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKhmH0qZ3Xw
Vincent Price impersonator on the intro
“Even a man who’s heart is pure, and says his prayers at night
Can change to a wolf when the wolf bane blooms
And the full moon shining bright”
Possibly done already, but, awroooooo, werewolves of London!
https://youtu.be/iDpYBT0XyvA
It was, but it is well worth another play :)
I think that this week has brought me on the most wonderful musical journey so far! From monsters to mash-ups, to rediscovering the wonderful UCD Choir, to finding Anabel Sweeney, to the wonderful Seo Linn and Colaiste Lurgan and their version of Old Town Road.
Has to be done:
