Members and supporters of Extinction Rebellion hold a protest in response to comments about climate change made by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at the launch of the government’s first progress report on its Climate Action Plan last Thursday.
Yesterday the Sunday Business Post reported that Mr Varadkar said:
“One thing that we definitely face as a result of climate change is warmer winters. We’re already experiencing warmer winters, and that actually means using less energy because it’s warmer and people need less heating, and it also means fewer deaths as a result of cold weather.
“It’s interesting that when you do look at those things, that there is a ledger, and there are benefits and there are downsides. The downsides outweigh the benefits but we need to be aware of them too.”

As I sit shivering slightly before my computer screen, all I can do is wince and feel sorry for the two in just their swimming gear!
Truly bizarre comments from Leo. Like something Trump would come out with if not for the fact he probably doesn’t believe climate change is a thing in the first place
Leo is a dope.
Bizarre and dumb. His off-the-cuff comments like this indicate he either doesn’t have advisors and reports, or has them and doesn’t heed them.
Kinda dumb baring your body in front of the Dáil too.
Frighteningly, I believe it to be the opposite. Comments like these are workshopped and run through focus groups. It turns out that “smart people” aren’t the majority of the voting public. Not across the country anyway, and Leo’s own seat in Castleknock is safe because he keeps the proles at bay.
