Former Independent MEP Marian Harkin

This morning.

Ocean FM reports:

There is growing speculation that former [Independent] TD and MEP, Marian Harkin, could stand for Fine Gael in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency at the next General Election.

Ocean FM News understands there has been contact between senior Fine Gael officials and Ms Harkin in recent weeks in relation to her candidacy.

Ms Harkin is not commenting on the matter, nor is the Fine Gael party.

Fine Gael approaching someone already into Retirement Age and collecting a pension(s) to parachute in

my idea of an active retirement would be doing aquarobics from the lido pool on the top deck of an all you can eat and drink cruise

But she will collect her pension regardless.

In some ways an older (past pension-age) candidate is best because they will die sooner and their pension liability for the new job will be a lot less.

Secondly, if she is earning multiple pensions she will be on the higher rate of tax and the net cost to the tax payer is lower.

Older people will generally die before younger people – I’m sorry that you had to learn about it in this way.

        most deflectives there Cian

Fine Gael, if the above is in fact true, are only interested in securing the seat and, according to your post; saving the taxpayers money

Feck, and there was me thinking it was about representing the constituents,

Shows what a sucker I am

You must have swallowed something else as no inner Shinner – which would be a secular Republican kind of a specimen – would even dream of voting for a faux-rosary waver who recycles the ravings of D.P. Moran. ‘Tis a good laxative you need.

That, as my mam would say, is a classic case of biting off your nose to spite your face. As bad as things have gotten, they have still not gotten anywhere near bad enough for me to consider voting for that lady.

It’s not like she’s going to win

I always vote and I’m not going to spoiI the damn thing

A win win scenario for me would be that she took some of the god botherers vote away from FFG but didn’t get near the quota, but managed to just get her deposit back
And my second preference woud still be in the picture

            She wasn’t always cray cray

Being cray cray doesn’t turn you into a horrible bigot. None of my bouts of mental illness made me hate Muslims, immigrants or gay and transgender people.

It’s not a protest vote though, is it? She’ll claim it as an endorsement. There’s no such thing as a ‘fun vote’ for a divisive demagogue. If you want to throw your vote away there are other options available to you. But endorsing someone who foments negativity towards immigrants – how are you going to reconcile yourself with that? It’s not even a bit of craic, she’ll take it as encouragement and you’ll have emboldened her to continue her ranting. Surely that would have to go down as one of the most shameful acts that you’ve ever committed? You can be a better italia’90 than that.
