Fran McNulty has been assigned by RTÉ to demonise farmers on behalf of the weird upper echelon of the Irish state. Why does nobody recognise this!

As I’ve said before, if it was students, they’d have had their heads bashed in by cops hours ago, same if they were protesting water charges, but because it’s farmers, they get treated with kid gloves.

None of them will be charged with false imprisonment!

No it isn’t. Many thousands of people protested water charges; only a tiny handful came into any bother with Gardaí (and these were normally the people coalescing around the Eirígí banners)

At last. Taking a leaf out of the French Farmers book.
Next step will be the PAYE sector.
    Bye bye FG

    A few points:
Farmers are now literally biting the hand that feeds them, disrupting Dublin ecomony and p**sing off it’s working citizens.
Co ops are the way forward, help yourself for God’s sake. Why does help for the beef Industry only extend to grant aid or attempting to fix the processing market price?
Rural Ireland and Urban Ireland has to change. Nothing survives without change, yet Farmers want no change other than loose change.
The majority of those protesting are either not beef Farmers or are beef farming as a hobby. Farming deserves to thrive, but it wont until those farming face up to reality
30% of farms are ran by over 65s, 5% by under 35s. This isn’t all down to money; young people want a different life and farming Industry needs to ensure that farming is attractive.
47% of farmers do it as a hobby or to supplement their Income.
    11% of farmers are female.
Average herd size is 66 cattle, in the UK its 143.
Farming is dying, parking your tractor in Dublin wont make a difference, even if the slaughterhouse price of beef tripled tomorrow, but it’s easy to blame someone else (beef barons, Dubs, Government, Dubs, townies, Guinness)

Fair point about the beef barons vs co-op’s but the entire agri industry is being squeezed at the moment- most of the produce goes to Britain and the exchange rate is absolutely hammering them.

As for young people, especially in beef, there simply is not the same living to be made- at least not in comparison to other industries- they are leaving farming because they have no choice.

The comment that everything is Dublin focused is correct- but it is not just farming it is everything and Dublin people are as much a victim as everyone else. Just look at the price differential in the property market between Dublin and outside the pale because this government does not care about rural Ireland- it has made zero effort to support rural communities.

Queues of tractors at the pumps going into Dublin all day. Government rubbing their hands in glee at all the tax they’ll be receiving from purchases for this protest. It might even buy a days worth of ink for their new printer.

Fair play to the farmers for giving it a go against a useless and out of touch Government. Keep rattling the hoors.
