Who the fupp would buy just the overly-fancy lid, instead of buying some sort of nice vessel to store the condiments in, I mean, really…

Have you ever tried to transfer the contents of a jar of Nutella™ into a nice vessel?

I haven’t personally, but the butler is always giving out about it.

    Weir’s was always a bit…weird:
Shops like this exist in some alternative retail space and are staffed by people who have no sense of irony or shame. They speak in honeyed tones while trying to sell unnecessary ego-flattering “lifestyle” accessories at massively inflated and obscene prices. What has always surprised me is that the potential purchasers must have the intelligence and education to generate the necessary funds in the first place, (unless Daddy provides), and yet they don’t have the wit to see these vacuous, shallow transactions for what they are.
    (There; now I feel better).

What you’ll find is its rarely the people with ‘the intelligence and education to generate the necessary funds in the first place’ who’re doing the shopping for these ridiculous items. Its usually their stay at home wives, who have a dangerous combination of too much free time and too much disposable income.

Or it historically was, anyway. These days there might be some trophy husbands evening things up too.

For what it’s worth, they’ve been selling that kind of thing for years and years. I remember seeing silver bottle tops for YR Sauce and jar lids there as a kid. That was 40 years ago.
