Meanwhile, in 1988…
Meanwhile back in the present day…
So, farewell then, Jonathan Miller – a very early contributor to Private Eye, until they fell out over the magazine putting his byline on a piece in September 1962. This was the letter he sent in response. pic.twitter.com/oT78FCuEg6

very sad
and on Miller, its worth noting that he was both Jewish and a friend and supporter of corbyn
He was also rude and condescending to anyone he didn’t think was of use to him.
To borrow a quote, there wasn’t a millionaire he didn’t like.
Clive James, on the other hand, was a pure gent.
a pure gent and an avid labour supporter
i heard recently though that katie price is a fanatical tory supporter so it all balances out, I suppose
Hahaha…aaaah.. mercy…
– I can never truly know and be sure but I’m 150% positive Clive James(and both Johnathan Miller and Gary Rhodes too) would have laughed out loud at reading that one..

Ahh.. Clive James, he was also an early unofficial mentor to many future well known and successful tv personalities well known by many TV audiences for his expoloring of strange foreign culture in an interesting and often hilarious way.
I watched some of his old shows and interviews on YT a few months ago and while obviously the 80’s shows seem dated, their still worth checking out along with his other work. R.I.P.

A great sense of humour all the way to the end…

Thanks for the links. loved his stuff in the late 80s and early 90s. I’m sad but my Dad will be more so. RIP, Clive.
Np you’re welcome, If you tell your Dad to punch his name into youtube you’ll find hours of his old shows and many interesting and hilarious interviews with various people over the years. – There’s a good one(of many) with Billy Connolly and David Attenborough talking about animals and various other random funnny ideas and anecdotes.
He is more writer and poet than broadcaster and tv personality despite his fame for the latter and which he tried to discourage. If anyone’s interested, his books “Cultural Amnesia” and his autobiography “Unreliable memoir” are a good place to start.. or end…

Two great men gone. RIP to each, who, in their own way, lead to my adulthood.
RIP. Really enjoyed his expert delivery and wit on the telly years ago.
Ah Clive
Proper late night talk show
And let’s not forget Carmen
G’day Clive
