I love Love Actually, myself and Lady Bertie sometimes even watch it in the summertime.
Do you worst I dont care!

Never saw it. Can’t abide that Hugh fellow, but I understand it has incredible performances by the lady Emma Thompson.

Worth watching for the ‘Both Sides Now’ scene alone. Emma Thompson is sublime.

Also, on the subject of Hugh Grant, watch him in Paddington 2 to see him in his finest role. He is absolutely hilarious.

I finally watched it, and I have to agree. Emma Thompson was incredible in that scene – and all her other ones, but that was amazing!

Still can’t abide the Hugh fellow, but he did not ruin it.

    In Bruges.

It only mentions Christmas a few times but it capture the darkness melancholy that so many people experience at this time of the year. But there’s also the morality behind the story that like all great Christmas stories proves nobody is beyond saving. Redemption for them all? No. But hope… just a little.

Oh for me it has to be Bad Santa! He was horrible, he was terrible, but in the end he could not let the boy down, and wanted to be Santa for him, even with ALL the police force literally on his back. I would love if my Santa went so far for me :)

Crazy type of good time feels!

Has to be Bad Santa. The constant hilarious horribleness from Billy Bob, Santa riding in the hot tub, the wholesome happy ending. The closest we have gotten to the Holy Grail of Christmas movies, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Took my pair to frozen 2 last Sunday. It was like an Elsa convention, a couple of hundred 6yr olds in blue sparkly dresses belting out ‘let it go’ at each other.
Music sucks in the new one BTW.

This decade? That’s a really tough one. There are so few genuinely enjoyable Christmas movies from the last 10 years. Most of them are poorly made romantic comedies that are overly schmaltzy. I had to google which Christmas movies came out since 2009 and out of that list I deduced that ‘Arthur Christmas’ was the pick of the bunch. It’s a movie that is a nice easy watch no matter what age you are, has a modern take on the Santa chronicles and the cast/story are mostly British so theres somewhat of a homely feel to it. If I was to pick my favourite of all time it would be ‘The birds’. I do realise it is not a Christmas movie but I distinctly remember it being on after midnight mass one christmas eve, maybe 1994. BBC2 always played a horror movie on Christmas eve to buck the trend of the rest of the stations. It’s one of the most memorable of all for me. Either that or Indiana Jones and the temple of doom.

It’s probably a difficult genre to pull off, Christmas means a lot of different things to different people. I’d imagine that to make a new Christmas movie set in modern times must be harder still with all the consumerism and other stresses and pressures. Polar Express was written in 1985 by Chris Van Allsburg, it might make a nice present for some young man or lady? A simple plot full of magic, adventure and visuals and well executed by director Robert Zemeckis with Tom Hanks playing the train conductor. Not a perfect film but it does manage to capture some of the spirit of Christmas.
