They don’t count them. They take a very very small sample of the population and apply the results to the entire population. Highly scientific.
“In-home monitoring is done via the Panel. It is made up of 1,090 homes (approx. 2,700 individuals and 1500 sets). There is a meter attached to every TV set in these homes and all sources connected – Virgin/Sky boxes, games consoles, PVRs, DVRs etc. The meter identifies both channels being watched and the devices used to view.”

(and the result from that 1090 homes produces a figure of 1.7m. Believe it, or not, as Ripley would say)

I enjoyed it… first time watching the full programme in years.

My only issue, which is perennial for many, is that the toys are more and more every year brushed aside for the variety show.

    To RTE,
Please, at least give the viewer a proper few minutes of pre-recorded stuff of the toys and kids playing with ’em, like the LLS used to do.
That was my favourite segment as a kid.
Even this segment from the current showing is a bit pants with regard to toys on view.

Not a bad show, but year by year the name of it is more and more misleading, in fairness.

I’ve not watched it for a while either.

I didn’t really share your enthusiasm overall, that said it wasn’t as bad as I feared and Ryan’s presenting style is weirdly suited to this format – he did ok

Couldn’t say why but it was probably for the same reason you said – I think you put it well – I found the whole thing a bit maniacal – but some of the sections did work really well

well for me it was fantastic,
super proud Aunty moment as my niece did her stuff to “someone you loved”

That licence fee sure is great value for money – stick on a zero at the end for the gas there, Dee.

I couldn’t take much more than twenty minutes of it, too jumpy and garish for my frazzled Friday state. Also, it’s on too late – they should consider bringing it forward by about two hours.

I’d like if the focus had been more on the toys and less on Tubridy, emoting all over the place. And Jesus, all those jumper changes! I watched a few clips afterwards and they were cute enough but overall I found it crass. The ‘one for everyone in the audience’ panto chant should have been buried with Gay.

Loads of people on twitter (including many employed by RTE) saying this is public service broadcasting at its best. Is it not just a massive product placement exercise and a great example of commercial enterprise? Asking for a friend who doesn’t work for TV3.

  6. Tea And Brexits

Fupp off RTÉ and do something significant for kids who need it.

If the RTÉ Player worked they would have got more than an 8% increase over 2018…

I dont know why anyone would want to watch Ryan Tubridy, kids other than my own family, Billy fupping Barry desperation kids and toys promoting movies (or is it the other way around?).
