The legal groundwork to facilitate the release of Terrorist Smith already being prepared for the plebs.

What are you talking about?

That the Tories are trying to shaft Farage is proof, if ever needed, that they will put their survival above everything- including Brexit. An alliance between Farage and the Tories would have almost guaranteed a majority but they are determined to keep him out at all costs.
Bearing in mind the polls were way off last time but if they are right- – Britain is heading for close to the same hung parliament as before. The only difference being a larger out and out remain camp- second referendum so.
Bud Flanagan
How in your tiny mind does the Tories with a 10 point lead make a second referendum likely ?
You’re the Comical Ali of Broadsheet.
And the John Delaney of numeracy.
Farmers block ALDI now LIDL- why only the German stores? Their share of the Irish market is no more than 15% so why not the big players?
Cú Chulainn
Because they are driving the below cost selling which is (in the main) why we have this problem..

Moreso than tesco? I would have thought Tesco would be the main driver here. A friend of mine whose brother in law supplies veg to tesco said they are cut throat to deal with when it comes to price
Janet, I ate my avatar
veg in Tesco is anemic rubbish too
Spaghetti Hoop
Too true. Consumer doesn’t even have a voice in this unholy mess.
Cian
Consumers can choose not to go to Tesco, or to buy their vegetables from a vegetable shop.
Spaghetti Hoop
@Cian, yes, but they don’t have a say in where their food originates from, and the mechanics, processes and relationships along its supply chain. I am talking high-level here; involving ALL stakeholders, including the consumer, on the future of Irish food and its supply.
Cian
Fair enough.

I don’t understand how a less than 15% share of the market is skewing it so much. The Agri industry’s main market is the UK and they being badly squeezed by the Euro / GBP exchange rate- so the issue is much wider than just beef.

At this stage, the members of the haulage industry will be getting quite mad at the farmers. After all, the hauliers deliver a lot more than meat to the RDCs, and it’s now costing them if they can’t deliver. LIDL and ALDI work on strict book-in times.
The farmers action may affect LIDL and ALDI, but it’s also affecting other suppliers.
Would the farmers be happy if the truckers took the same type of action against the farmers – i.e. block the entrances to farmers premises?. All that milk going off, all that meat supply cut off.

Actually, Verona is very quiet and her the top ‘dog’ at the IRHA. Maybe she doesn’t want to comment as it might destroy her a) job, or b) racist farmers voted in Wexford.
