I have done and it’s great. Tried to go for quirky places that would make the day memorable, like pig roasts or revolving restaurants, speak easys etc. There just aren’t enough opening in Dublin (besides hotels) on the 25th. I hope that changes eventually.

I as house elf this year can rather see the appeal, I’ll need a holiday after the whole thing

This isn’t actually promoting lunch on Christmas Day itself. I’d imagine it’s a general promotion for lunch in the days in the run up to the 25th.The Farmgate is located in the English Market which, as its run by Cork City Council, won’t be open on Christmas Day.

      It’s a nice place though.

Ha, no harm in slaying the odd sacred cow. As I recall, Ballymaloe accepted his review with good grace.

I have gone on a couple of occasions. Once was after my parents moved out of the ‘ancestral home’ and into a smaller place. Coming from a large family, we could not all get together in any one house. Meeting at a hotel restaurant meant we could get together, and afterwards resort to the lounge to continue our discussion.

It was also convenient as family members who had to travel from afar stayed at the hotel also.

That was the last time my full extended family (bar one) were together before my mother passed away, so it is a very pleasant memory.
