before and after: Kildare Street Hotel, 47-49 Kildare Street, Dublin 2
Incredible Before+Afters for the proposed demolition of the former Kildare Street Hotel, comprising a fine terrace of late Georgian houses, described by the applicant as having a “dishevelled and functional appearance”. Ref: 4414/14. Last date for observations Thurs 12th Dec. pic.twitter.com/FHhRSpXUlZ

Is that Peg Woffingtons? Dublin’s home of the slow set?
Remember how aghast (and internationally embarrassed) we were once the penny dropped regarding the demolition of the 16 Georgian Houses on Lower Fitzwilliam Street to make way for the (also since demolished) ESB HQ, in the late sixties? I do, I remember still being embarrassed about ous allowing that to happen only last week. But this is being allowed, left, right and centre in order to keep the commercial construction bubble afloat. It’s frankly disgusting.
+1
good grief
This would be a real shame
This should not be allowed to happen under any circumstances. Have we learnt nothing from the architectural destruction of the 1960s?
50’s, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s
No flippin’ way!
“But we need it for tech jobs. Money into local economy, white water rafting, etc., etc”
Christ that’s hideous
I’m surprised to see that these buildings, almost uniquely on Kildare St., are not protected structures or that the wider area is not an Architectural Conservation Area.
I’m less surprised however that well known aesthete, Larry Goodman, is behind the firm seeking their demolition. The building is as charmless as he is.
We are a barbarian society. Look at how we treat our architectural heritage and our down-and-outs.
No, no, no, no, no, no.Stop stripping the character out of Dublin. That yolk is hideous.
great Dublin is going to loose some of the charm it has left,
wtf
blessed by the blushirts..
That’s one boring building that they are looking to build
Is this a joke? Sure if it was falling apart like many up around Mountjoy Square but why deface a building that’s in perfect condition? We’ve hundreds of rotting buildings in Dublin that we are not allowed touch.
are there not preservation laws to stop this from happening? so that a handful of greedy ignorant men can’t deface the city for life? I presume a foreign investor is involved, to which DCC duly drop their pants and bend over “give it to us, uncle sam!”
1985 called and asked for their building back.
I understand some old Georgian buildings are beyond economic repair, I seriously doubt this is one of them (particularly given where it is).
