From top: Garda Sean Lucey and RTÉ cameraman Colm Hand; a scuffle during the Pegida rally in central Dublin in 2016

This afternoon.

Via RTE:

A garda who struck an RTÉ cameraman with a baton during a rally in Dublin three years ago has been found guilty of assault.

Garda Sean Lucey, a member of the Public Order Unit, had pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm to cameraman Colm Hand.

Lucey, 42, was found not guilty of damaging a camera at Cathedral Street on 6 February 2016.

The incident occurred as Mr Hand and a colleague were working at a demonstration and counter rally in Dublin by the far-right group Pegida and anti-racism groups….

I was at that rally (on the anti-racist side). the Gardai seemed to be very comfortable with Pegida, they were laughing and joking with them.

Pig-ida more like! Its a fascinating case of state police force v’s state propaganda arm. A ruling like this could mean war between the fuzz and RTE. Which is only a good thing as I hate both of them. If it was a freelance camera man the guard would have gotten off scot free and the RTE news report would have spun it against the victim. But now? boy oh boy!!!!

The state is bad, blah blah blah. Oh wait its the state against the state, blah blah, blah. If he was freelance, the Guard would have got off, blah, blah, blah. The fuzz? Who will you call when you get robbed? Only vote for independents or SF as they don’t represent the state (despite the fact that they can’t make a decision about anything), blah blah, blah. Seriously, you are turning into a parody of yourself.

Who will you call when you get robbed? The police, if you need to make an insurance claim so your stuff will be replaced because that’s the rules for insurance companies. At which time the fuzz will strut around and imply you made it up for a false claim and treat you with suspicion even thought you’re the victim. Not insured? The police wont find your stuff or solve the crime so no point calling anyone , what’s done is done. No point adding to crime statistics just so these children can clam they need more battering rams, batons and guns to use on soft targets.

Why would a Garda attack a cameraman? Shouldn’t the kit he’s carrying hint that he’s not a threat to public order. Sounds like Lucey got slap-happy with the baton. Inadequate training, low IQ, fear, agitation… who knows. A cameraman should be able to do his job without being attacked by the guardians of the peace. Back to Templemore with him for the Rally module.

A criminal conviction means the Garda *might* be sacked.. of course he won’t. He was just doing his job.

Trigger happy, low IQ cowards. The police literally shot an unarmed suspect dead during an ongoing kidnapping situation and said it was reasonable force . Then lied about the situation with holes in the story so big you could drive a Nissan Qashqai through , no one seemed to care because the victim was a murderer so the public ate it up like saps , . So judge Dredd execution rules apply, apparently. which isn’t right and is a scary precedent to be taking , but that’s the stupid public for you. got a gun/baton = itching to use it under any flakey circumstances because the force will back you up and call you a hero and, up to now, the state propaganda wing will also downplay any police errors , but that’s all changed now because this little piggy picked the wrong camera man. Ha! Id love to be a fly on the wall during the emergency union meetings!!

I suspect those low IQ cowards are articulate enough to know how to use a comma (note you do not need a space before a comma). Can you please provide a source for “The police literally shot an unarmed suspect dead during an ongoing kidnapping situation and said it was reasonable force”.

In fairness to Garda Dangermouse he’d look more at home wrangling about the allocation of paperclips in the stationery cupboard than he did myopically wielding a baton in An Bearna Baoghail during the rough and tumble of a street protest.

Gardai with batons are a law upon themselves. The instance at the Gorey hotel is another example of the big swing michilín mentality of some of these guardians of the peace.

“Low IQ Cowards”. There are some ferocious fappers on this site.
    poo themselves keyboard warriors.

It would be interesting to see Garda Lucey go to Paris and take on the French protesters
    They know how to protest
    One thing is certain
Mr. Lucey would need more than a baton
