I hear a Capuchin monk yesterday (Who run a day care centre for feeding the homeless), describe how the numbers of homeless children they have to accommodate, for a planned visit by Santa has risen for 200 last year to over 600 this year….. wtf is wrong with this country???

You ask what is wrong with this country, but as someone who works in the area of homelessness, I ask what is wrong with all the Eastern European countries that so many of these people are from. That is the hot potato, that is the reason our homeless figures are rising year-on-year. Some people (usually single men) actually travel here in the knowledge that they will be homeless on arrival. Do they not have any homeless services in eastern Europe? It’s a genuine question.

how does that explain rising number of homeless children? are you saying these are new arrivals with kids?

It’s because of unreasonable comments like yours that we can’t explore the issue fully. People jumping up & down when ‘uncomfortable’ realities are brought up.

So what’s your solution? It’s fairly safe to assume you’ve had plenty of time to formulate one?

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with the discussion here, just coming on to say that this… “uncomfortable realities = victim blaming” is bullpoo.

If uncomfortable realities were ALL seen as victim blaming, as such a silly remark does, then nothing could ever be discussed to fix ANY issues.

If you have issue with what he said, take issue with whether said and please don’t respond to it with ridiculous “x = y” nonsensical commentary that serve no purpose in any discussion.

Thanks, mini-rant over. have a nice day :)
