This morning.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson delivered a victory speech after his Conservative party yielded the best election result since 1987.
He said:
“Thank you all, thank you very much for coming. Well my friends, good morning everybody, my friends.
“Well, we did it, we did it. We pulled it off didn’t we?
“We pulled it off.
“We broke the deadlock, we ended the gridlock, we smashed the roadblock.
“And in this glorious, glorious pre-breakfast moment, before a new dawn rises on a new day and a new government, I want to first of all pay tribute to good colleagues who lost their seats through no fault of their own in the election just gone by.
“And I, of course, want to congratulate absolutely everybody involved in securing the biggest conservative majority, since the 1980s…which was, literally, literally, as I look around, literally before many of you were born.
“And with this mandate, and this majority, we will at last be able do…what?”
The crowds respond in chorus: “Get Brexit done.”
Mr Johnson then carried on:
“You’re paying attention.
“This election means that getting Brexit done is now the irrefutable, irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people…”
Last night: “A Thumping Tory Majority”
He’s not wrong in fairness. The Brexit vote has proven extremely strong. Conversely, all the limp wristed ‘people’s vote’ stuff has proven totally ineffective. The usual suspects will still try and argue Labour should’ve gotten fully behind the latter though!
52% for Remain parties – a referendum on Brexit and a separate General Election would have been interesting. Boris fluked it. He is no smarter than Trump. Heseltine, Major, Patten and others told people not to vote Tory – that
tells you whatyou need to know.
” Fluked it ”
* sniggers *
No, of the English people! The Scots, the Northern Irish and the Welsh pretty much voted the other way!
Welcome to the UK baby.
Bye, bye UK. I am looking forward to the new flegs being flown. I hope Australia gets a new flag out of it, too.
…the UK election showed that democracy must be respected…England and Wales have rewarded those who have promised to uphold the referendum result and the North and Scotland have punished those who didn’t…welcome to the UK indeed…it won’t be there forever…heh x 3…
The Scots had their opportunity to self-determine. They declined.
well he won’t have to kowtow to the nutters in the erg and the dup anymore. he might well be the one to deliver a soft brexit that sees the uk maintain alignment with the eu.
border poll anyone?
get BREXIT done.
keep it simple
Stick it up your arse, Boris.
Putin, Trump and now Johnson. The perfect storm.
Australia has Scomo – another lightweight populist.
The 3 countries that did the most 2 resist Fascism last time out, scary days
What’s not to enjoy?
Border down the Irish sea. DUP sidelined. Nationalist majority in the north. Scotland on the verge. UK being dismantled.
+1
Abosutely. We don’t have to live under the Tories, remember, just negotiate with them.
I’m no fan whatsoever of Phil Hogan but the negotiations from January 2020 are better with him as EU Trade Commissioner than someone else.
“we dont have to live under the tories”
try telling that to dav
Well I did say at the time that they knew what they were doing by throwing Big Phil into Trade
Yep, and it makes sense.
Johnson will appoint a new Cabinet and pluck out fresh new EU Trade envoy – but would probably get fairly hands-on himself, relishing in marching off to Brussels with a majority behind him. I’d say Big Phil is rubbing his hands.
C’mon, Big Phil isn’t all that. The bruiser stuff might work down the cumann but it’s big league now.
Let’s see if he’s capable of going through the gears.
He will cut their water to a trickle if he doesn’t get his way.
The dis-United Kingdom, it would appear
The working class people have spoken, they’re sick of immigration obliterating their communities, they don’t get to see any benefit in it, whilst politicians and virtue signallers choose to live in the least diverse areas. That’s the reality.
And they’ll be punished with fields full of rotten fruit and veg because there’s no foreign labourers to pick them, a dangerous lack of medical staff due to lack of foreign staff and investment, and foodbanks for the vulnerable who haven’t died or killed themselves while waiting for Universal Credit or PIP assessments.
Great Britain indeed.
And when the sky falls, and when the mountains split and belch forth fire and smoke, and when the horsemen ride, and when the eyes of God open and sear the land clean
That’ll show those buppyholes for voting Tory
Since when did working class people eat fruit and veg? lol
“Thats the Reality” unfortunately in this reality you have to walk to shop down the road that only exists because a hard working immigrant started it, in order to buy more bleach, because you drank it all and are hallucinating,
1, this vote will have no impact on immigration, the eu never forced migration, and the torys love having a constant in stream of cheap worker and scapegoats.
2. the diverse areas still voted labour or Lib dem, i’d be interested to see what the actual vote share was. But I live in an area that has a massively diverse and vibrant population, 90% of the local council are labour, as are all 3 westminster seats.
3. the last tory majority had one of the lowest popular votes of any recent uk government, and i’ve heard the margins in the won seats are even tighter this time around, a 1% win in 100% of seats leading to massive majority isn’t a landslide, its a failure in democracy.
The UK isn’t racist, the racists just shout louder and play dirty
You only sing when you’re winning baby.
I’ll give you a tip.
Get outside the M25 and go visit the communities in the North and Wales impacted by uncontrolled immigration.
You’ll hear what one Tory canvasser said last week – every East European he spoke to was voting Tory because they know what it’s like to live under communist rule.
Boris played a blinder in this election against the worst opposition leader in living memory.
It was Eton v Accrington Stanley.
Back of the net !
in fairness, charger, I’d wager it’s quite a while since you’ve been in or around communities in the north or wales
just saying
You’d lose that wager old boy.
I have roots ‘oop North and visit family there often.
Wales less so,I’ll give you that.Never really liked the place to be honest.
Calling everyone racist whom you disagree with is part of the problem, the inability to converse about serious issues. Walk into any unemployment office and you will see queues of mostly foreign people, how do you explain that? School classes unable to cope with the increase and a health service crippled with the pressure of more and more people, and then there is housing. Do you think these things are not happening?
People don’t care about race, they just want their services back. It’s really not that difficult.
Jimi is parody- obviously.
Is that not the case of certain parts of Ireland outside Dublin too?
A 1% increase in share of vote for Tories gives an 80 seat majority
Meanwhile yet again Lib Dems get a dismal vote share to seat conversion rate
Simple plurality – simple but stupid
51% is more than 49%
That’s democracy for you
Wonderful news.
I’ve been celebrating all day.
Made all the better for reading the whines of outrage from Irish people living in the UK carefully ” collated ” by the Irish Times.
This is what makes the rag worth reading – the O’Woke outrage.
One even says ” We’re looking for an exit stratgey .”
I’ll give you a one-word strategy matey – Ryanair.
Good times.
