Take Your Aye Out

Splutter!

John Kelly writes:

I spotted this blatantly sexist advert in a shop window in St Stephen’s Green shopping centre [Dublin 2] yesterday.

Can you imagine the uproar if that was a bloke lifting a woman’s skirt for a sneaky look at her under-carriage?!

FIGHT!

      “almost”

Well done you on excusing the behaviour.

Really am loving your double standards in fairness. True colours an’ all that.

      Have a nice day now.

        1. scottser

in fairness they’ve been good for the past few months. and sure, it wouldn’t be christmas without a row out of someone..

          1. Brother Barnabas

I could be wrong, Papi, but I’m 100% certain I heard scottser cough into his hand and say “fupping slag” when your mother walked past

you know me: I dont like to cause trouble, but I’m just saying it as it is

        1. Clampers Outside

Well, considering you think women have a penis, it’s about time you realised you’re confused.

          1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

That’s funny, you had that as well?
I thought I was imagining all that
So I got her home and like next thing I knew …

          2. Nigel

Hmm, no answer, other than, like the woman in this ad. you have a skeevy obsession with other people’s fenitalia.

    2. BS

If this was a man doing it to a woman it would be sexual assault….

Well it is sexual assault if a woman does it to a man!

Ah but shurra it’s just a laugh, the wimin love to see if he’s a real Scot hohoho

      1. Nigel

        1. Yes, it is sexual assault if a woman does it to a man.
        2. The ‘shurra it’s a bit of a laugh’ attitude is present here in this comment section, but not from me.
        3. The point I was trying to make was that there aren’t many men wearing kilts in Ireland so it doesn’t actually happen very often, hence the lack of outrage, but perhaps the snark was a bit too dry.
        4. Anyone who wants to get outraged at this, as opposed to outraged at the lack of outrage, has my unwavering support. It’s skeevy.

    1. Janet, I ate my Avatar

my uncle Jimmy was ditto g beside my brother Jimmy at a wedding, the brothers girlfriend across the table was playing footsie up the wrong kilt half the meal, she gave it more and more effort to get a tea room from my unmoved brother, when this mixup came to light Uncle Jimmy says ” sure why spoil the lassies fun”

      1. Janet, I ate my Avatar

omg apologies, I can’t type on the tiny keyboard of emergence phone
        * sitting beside
        * get a reaction

          1. Papi

Can we focus on the fact that Millies dad was not pleased he was in a Scottish upskirt ad?
Please? Or have we lost all civility?

But it’s a fella being sexually harassed so it’s all in good fun. Remember the poor Diet Coke lad trying to mow the lawn in the heat while all the women drool out the window at him, hilarious. The greek yogurt chap posing buck naked in an art class then has to run out into the street for some reason, side splitting shenanigans.
Woman sunbathing in back yard when the auld fella next door taking in washing, looks over wall – World War 3 uproar and complaints to the BAI.

    1. george

The difference is men in the real world are actually responsible a huge amount of sexual violence and harassment of real women.

    2. Nigel

Who are you mad at over this? Where is your outrage directed? Who are you trying to pick a fight with? Those responsible for the ads? Or the general public? Or the very people who gave you the language and skills to analyse these ads and see them as sexist?

  2. Captain Pants

Let’s not pretend it’s the same. We all know that many (most) women find unwanted sexual attention from men annoying, whereas the reverse isn’t true. The few times it has happened to me it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

    1. Janet, I ate my Avatar

I miss the attention a woman gets in France, no craic here, lads barely crack a smile at ya unless they are in a pub setting,
but I fully respect and understand it makes some ladies uncomfortable and naturally there’s a line in the sand,
but harmless flirting can brighten a rainy day

        1. Janet, I ate my Avatar

Yeah why wouldn’t I, it’s still complimentary, you get to smile say thanks and have a nice day,
Jesus not every man I admire thinks I’m da bomb..mores the pity, I still got eyes I’m still allowed think…nice peach

    2. Clampers Outside

As others have noted, experienced and/or witnessed, as I have too, having a kilt lifted is not welcomed. You’re excusing such behaviour.

So long as you acknowledge the double standard there in, fair enough, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

  3. george

Your poster is correct, it would be much worse if it was a man looking up a woman’s skirt and this poster is much less offensive. It is not at all classy but also not sexist.

    1. Spaghetti Hoop

      Aye. Handsome.
I’ve attended some fantastic St. Andrew’s Balls and Burns Nights where kilted folk congregate. It’s really silly and childish to mock a jock in a kilt. The above ad is just extending this lack of respect for cultural heritage. I wouldn’t get overly upset about it but just like how men are portrayed as the stupid one in couples within ads – it’s really time to change the script!!

  4. GiggidyGoo

His left arm seems a lot thicker than the rings one.
Apart from that – What’s the difference between a Scotsman and an Alaskan man?
One is kilt by the cold, the other is cold by the kilt.

  5. Brother Barnabas

not sure if straight men are as bad as gay men but, if so, having- as a straight man – worn a skirt (without underwear) (long story) into a gay club, it must be hard work being a woman

    1. Nullzero

To be fair you were dressed in a skirt with no underwear in a gay bar. Were I a gay man I’d probably see it as a bit of a green light if I’m honest.

    1. Captain Pants

No – dog-whistling is a term that modern lefties use when they want to accuse somebody of racism or sexism but don’t actually have any evidence.

  6. RobbieC

This is gross advertising, mainly because it involved one human creeping on another human.

Women can be creeps, women can be abusers, women can be the maintainers of the patriarchal system.

Its good that men can utilise the masses of work women have done in society to ensure this kind of behaviour is no longer considered appropriate.

Women deserve protection. Men deserve protection. Everyone deserves to keep their pubes (or lack of) private if they want.

  7. f_lawless

What I find offensive is that the picture seems to be attempting to make men feel ashamed of their hairy arses. A real man doesn’t seek to deny his own natural state and concern himself with such things as bottom grooming. He has a strong sense of pride in his own bum fluff, as nature intended, which is much more attractive to all right-thinking women. Right ladies? ;)
