Verona Murphy: Migrants, MI5 And Me [Updated]

“Well, if Fine Gael sought to silence her, we well and truly failed – I think is the first thing to say.

“And I think the second thing to say is the decision to deselect her is looking better by the moment.”

Deselected Fine Gael Wexford candidate Verona Murphy gave an interview to South East Radio’s Morning Mix.

Via Independent.ie:

She said she was silenced by the party and subject to a media ban in the final days of her recent by-election campaign.

Speaking to South East Radio on Thursday, Ms Murphy said she had raised the issue of migrants as a security issue. “I apologise for the words I use. I stand over the fact it is a security issue,” she said.

In her unsuccessful by-election campaign, Ms Murphy said asylum seekers coming to Ireland have to be “deprogrammed” as they “carry angst” and may have been “infiltrated” by Isil. She also claimed that children as young as three were being “manipulated” by Isil.

Ms Murphy said that in her role as president of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) she was at the “coalface” of the issue of migrants trying to get into the country.

She said she had attended security briefings from MI5 and Interpol on the issue of migration. “I doubt anybody in Dáil has as much experience of the migrant issue as I have,” she said.

She was still praising Varadkar in that interview. Once a FGer, always a FGer. If she stands, and is successful as an Independent, she’ll be another Lowry, Naughton etc.

  2. Matt Fitzpatrick

She should also apologise for using fear as a tactic to win votes. She lowered the people of Wexford.

She voiced her opinion and continues to do so. It is not compatible with the position of the part she wanted to run for so she was dropped.

She made a political blunder and embarrassed that party so was asked not to speak to the media further to avoid her causing more embarrassment. She then recorded a view claiming to be a victim which did cause more embarrassment.

She can seek an nomination elsewhere or run as an independent.

Nobody is stopping here giving her opinion.

Equally, nobody is required to give her a platform to shout from.

FG have been accepting some questionable candidates over the last few years. Are they not vetted or interviewed or run through some basic tests?

      No she won’t

That MI5 admission – no matter it’s purpose will not be allowed rest by the Pike Men and Women of Wexford
WX might have enough Prods to keep a Blueshirt in a seat – no matter who they are
But going outside the parish for this kinda stuff was political suicide

Even Kehoe – and he a Jnr Minister in Defence wouldn’t be prepared to put himself alongside MI5 personally- he’d have left it to the Dept / Defense Forces to manage that type of disclosure

Not that I give a Christmas cracker about her or her politics or what she has to say about anything
She would make a terrible TD no matter who she whips in with, and hopefully the electorate will tell her the same

“She’ll be elected an Independent in the forthcoming.”

In your dreams. Wexford people are decent people.

She might make the ranks of commenter on thejournal.ie, granted.

She couldn’t get elected with the FG party support and budget, what makes you think she’ll be elected without it? Blueshirts aren’t going to give her a preference against their own candidates and most of the Wexford electorate wouldn’t vote for her after her deluded, paranoid pronouncements today. She’ll split the 500 racists’ vote with the Irexit wan.

If that were true than surely they wouldn’t have posted this. I hate misunderstanding of free speech; freedom of speech does not mean freedom from criticism.

freedom of speech does not mean freedom from criticism.

And isn’t that the cause of all the confusion with the more local Free Speechers

If this latest media outing was an attempt at auditioning for a role as the next Bond girl then Agent Putóg Dubh has made a hames of it. What a spectacularly ignorant person she is, utterly incapable of either basic research or the evaluation and processing of information. She could also do with a briefing on the catalogue of blunders that can be laid at the door of MI5 along with its history of placing bogus information before the world via assorted dupes and chancers.

they’re the exact same comments she said before elections, which FG didn’t have a problem with now. They even had Coveney and Varadkar down there canvassing for her. But NOW they’re bad.
