Graham Linehan has shown himself to be a complete and utter tool. Also there are a lot of tools on the other side of the debate. People can’t seem to be able to express an opinion or ask a question on this issue without getting screamed at by both sides.

    1. Captain Pants

Linehan is a textbook example of the deranging powers social media can have an a funny intelligent man. He parrots the most mindless woke rubbish most of the time. But on the trans issue he is 100% correct.

      1. pedeyw

His trans views are a direct result of being rightly called on that episode of the IT crowd. I honestly don’t think he’d care about the issue if someone had told him that maybe his writing that time wasn’t very well thought out.

  2. Clampers Outside

Up is down, down is up, women have a penis, men have vaginas, sex is not immutable, and gender self id as a man or woman is the same as being born as a man or woman.

We’re through the looking glass folks.

        1. missred

Taking up half the comments section with something you’re not at all obsessed with, oh no – that’s what I see here.

          thank you

    1. Sham Bob

Next thing a cat will be allowed marry a dog. Like most complex subjects, twitter is too short-form to tease out competing rights.

  3. pedeyw

A Daily Mail link, though? I will not be giving ad money to the paper that famously endorsed the Nazis, thanks.

    1. Rob_G

The device you typed this on contains technology from a company that provided important technological support to the nazis…

    1. Nigel

On balance, I’d say there’s enough shouting and roaring being done on this one. Trans rights are himan rights. End of message.

  4. V

    That’s it
I am now officially one of the confused
    Maybe fluid
    Maybe snot

And from now my preferred pronouns are
    That ‘wan / yer ‘wan

  5. Spaghetti Hoop

Twitter spats – why does anyone take them seriously when they are designed as sleb sensationalism? If a sleb doesn’t share your views, what’s the big deal? Everyone is so incensed by transgender issues.

      1. Spaghetti Hoop

I would have said the same ten years ago but attention-seekers on Twitter were less prolific then. Maybe our BS detectors are more finely-tuned.

        1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

I blame the tech itself. It makes it too easy for people to mouth off without thinking.

  6. Tea And Brexits

JK Rowling – CIS woman writes books turned into films for kids and numpties; makes millions; buys the same new nose as Meryl Streep with proceeds.

Yes, well qualified in human relations.

    And a confederate of Linehan.

    Fupp Off.

    1. BS

      What’s a “cis” woman?

A woman is an adult human female.

A female is a person who is born with xx chromosones

Therefor only a female can be a woman.

  7. bisted

…JK Rowling has consistently used her immense wealth to intervene in issues such as opposing Scottish Independence and opposing the cultural boycott of the zionist apartheid regime…hopefully, history will prove that she has consistently backed the wrong side…

  8. Dr.Fart

i tried to figure out the linehan thing before, and got lost in threads upon threads of people commenting trying to sound like noble prize winning intellects, and never ever got to find out what was happening. Asked a few people in these threads and just got jumped on. Such a mess. And it seems he’s on it constantly, he tweets intensely regularly, his family must be sick of lookin at him in the corner on his phone. It all seems like something he never needed to get involved in, and he’s stoked the ire of twitters most annoying and obsessive tweeters so its never going to end.

  9. Harry

    Christ…

There was never any issue here until the last couple of years when some “people with a penis” decided they wanted access to naked rooms of “people with a vagina”

Kind of goes against the narrative of the last few decades which I though was a fight worth fighting

    1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

Does it? In any half-medium civilised society, e.g. backstage at a theatre during costume change, or in a Finnish sauna, the fact of people having either a vagina or a penis is hardly remarked on. It’s only an issue in post-Christian/sexually repressive societies where some people have yet to evolve into full grown adults.

If a trans woman wants to use “my” toilet, I don’t care.
I don’t think most women care either if a trans man wants to use theirs.
If a fella started showing his micky around in front of a non-consenting female, whether in a toilet or not such an action might give rise to an offence covered by existing decency laws. So what’s the real problem?

      1. A Person

So if a naked man walked into your daughter’s swimming changing room, you’d have no problem? His rights transcend your daughter’s?

        1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

This happens all the time in leisure centres and swimming changing rooms.

Dads who bring their daughters swimming often bring their daughters into the mens changing room because not all places have family changing rooms, and guess what they are frequently exposed to the sight of a male penis there? To date, I have not heard of any permanent damage being incurred – I’ve sure you may have ‘innumerable’ examples to discuss with me though?

And even when there is a family changing room, many Dads don’t bother using them because it’s no big deal to them or their children whether a person has a vagina or a penis? ( Maybe a mother could confirm if they bring their male children into the female changing rooms also – I don’t frequent women’s changing rooms myself so I can’t say).

So as I said to the other fellow below – what’s the real problem here?

          1. A Person

Because I don’t want some pervert pretending to be “transgender” or bi effing something or other staring at my daughters naked body, just because he claims to be transgender. oops my hard on was me thinking about how great it is to be binary. Seriously…….

          2. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

We’ve cleared that up then – it’s you who had the problem- having the worst possible scenario being the one you exclusively focus on

          3. millie vanilly strikes again

            +1

A Person’s comments remind me of the kinds of insinuations and callous remarks made about homosexuals, so often made by people who feared the unknown and yet made no attempt to inform or enlighten themselves.

      2. Captain Pants

“It’s only an issue in post-Christian/sexually repressive societies where some people have yet to evolve into full grown adults.”

It would be a very major problem in any India, the Middle east and North Asia as well.

          1. Captain Pants

Yes but of course lots of people from those parts of the world live in this part of the world, so it is relevant. In the Jessica Yaniv case in Canada, for example, a major part of the reason the case was so controversial is that a Canadian man was attempting to force women from conservative Asian countries to wax his ‘female’ testicles. Which brings up the consent issue another poster brought up – you have a right to your opinion about trans issues, the question is where the rights of people that don’t agree with you come in?

For the record, I don’t personally have any problem with it, but it does rankle with me the way its being pushed on people whether they want it or not, with any pushback or questioning equated with bigotry.

          2. Clampers Outside

Apparently, and according to many non-trans persons on here, there are an awful lot of trans people who are bigots.

            Transplaining, I guess.

( Sarcasm – for those what heard a ‘wooooosh’ )

          3. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

Captain Pants you sound like you have a big problem with it. Leaving that aside Jessica Yaniv lost her case. So I’m not sure what point you’re making there.

Nothing was forced on anyone there because they lost their case. And if they had won their case, it wouldn’t have been ‘forced’ on anyone either, it would have been the rule of law there. People from outside the jurisdiction there are subject to the rule of law there.

Please outline what you say is being ‘forced’ on you as I genuinely don’t get it.

          4. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

Clampers – have you found any more than three examples of transgendered people who don’t agree with the Forstater ruling yet?

Innumerable doesn’t equal three. Facts are facts – as you like to say yourself.

  10. Madam X

The nonsense written on this thread is mind boggling. Some of you guys supporting Lenehan and Rowling need to get yourselves educated before coming on here talking rubbish. .

    1. BS

im educated enough to know that sex is binary and cannot be changed by humans.

You are born one sex and will be that sex for your entire life.

Sex and gender are different and are not inherently linked.

Sex based rights for the protection of people of that sex should be protected

      1. BS

Males are born with xy chromosomes and females with xx chromosomes.

These cannot be changed or altered in any way. Therefor if you are born male you will always be male.

It’s a quite simple scientific fact.

  11. Daisy Chainsaw

A woman didn’t have her contract renewed because she bullied another person. That’s what this boils down to. You can have all the deeply helpful beliefs you like, but if inflicting those beliefs on someone else caused bullying, then tough tidy. If this woman was a deeply religious Muslim who wouldn’t deal with men who weren’t related to her,or a deeply religious Catholic who was rude to a single mother you’d all be siding against the bully. Why is bullying trans people okay?

    1. Clampers Outside

What did she do that was bullying?

Was she not the one who has been bullied?
She is being told that to say “a woman doesn’t have a penis” is now considered bullying behaviour despite the fact that to claim so is true. Tell me again who is being bullied, and how?

From what I have read, the bullying is forcing ideological beliefs on people, when biological facts are well understood.

          1. Daisy Chainsaw

There was no reason for the women to bully a man who prefers to use they and them as their preferred pronouns. It’s not acceptable to insult people who are gay or who are a different colour or faith to you. Why are you ok with insults and bullying of trans people?

          2. Clampers Outside

I’m not. But compelled speech that goes against another’s beliefs does exactly what you are arguing is wrong, doesn’t it.

          3. Clampers Outside

Nope, sure doesn’t. Glad you sorted that out for yourself Ambi :) Need any help again, just shout.

          4. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

You were challenged to present a basis for the spurious claim you made about innumerable transgendered folks attitudes to the Forstater ruling. You failed to do so.
            That’s what I learned.
What else are you waffling and running your mouth off about , like a spoilt little brat?
It’s hard to take you seriously.

  12. GiggidyGoo

62 comments on this story, and 5 on the Capuchin one just before this one. More interest in mickeys and fannies than bellies.

    1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

Why don’t you go and comment on there then? Perhaps you’ll be largely ignored there too?

      1. GiggidyGoo

Of course, if you’d looked before you wrote that, you’d have seen that I did. It must be terrible to be outed as a fool time after time. That’s why you choose to change your name so often.
Thanks for ignoring me by the way. Again, it must be terrible to be outed as a fool time after time. That’s twice on your comment above. Look and learn.

          1. Ambivalent Gendered Brit

Repeating the same old nonsense about Leo Varadkar and Simon Harris etc every single day, sometimes several time a day would in fairness be more reflective of a limitation of some sort

  13. newsjustin

From reading the employment appeals judgement, Forstater didn’t seem to be in actual employment with the organisation she complained against. She was more of an ad-hoc contractor who wasn’t asked back.

But it does seem clear that the mood against her turned sour when she started exercising her feminist muscles and pointing out that trans women aren’t, in fact, women.

The headline grabbing thing was that one person who she had a spat with on Twitter was offended that she called them by the pronoun “he”. This person is clearly a man with a beard.

    1. shayna

The piece in ‘The Guardian’ tailed off,
“Rowling had previously been criticised for liking a tweet that referred to trans women as “men in dresses”. Rowling’s representative later blamed a “middle-age moment” for the like, and said it stemmed from the author mishandling her phone.”
I wonder does her representative still have a job? The author clearly has an imagination, I would have thought her excuse/retort would have been a tad more imaginative – her phone was hacked, or something involving her dog running off with it, or wizards. (who can be male/female.)

  14. Scundered

Identity politics is a cancer that eats itself, all it takes is enough strains before they all start fighting each other, it was obvious from the outset. Time for popcorn.

  15. Ringsend Incinerator

If you find yourself on the same side as Brendan O’Neill and the Koch bros-funded serially appalling and juvenile Spike Magazine then you ffind yourself on the wrong side of just about anything. Not just history but on having any respect for differences and diversity. I’m surprised there isn’t a campaign against Cadbury’s Selection Boxes by the same “one size fits all” blow-hard numpties.
