They’re never able to accept card payments. Its a ridiculous situation for a busy city center pub, and always just makes me suspect “tax scam”. Theres no other reason why they wouldn’t have a few card machines.

Tapping cards, as most people do in pubs these days, takes far less time than paying with money and giving change.

True, but have you ever noticed that people who tap are generally knobs? I reckon they have the ‘no card’ policy to keep the knobs out.

I asked a barman about this before and it turns out that banks charge a helluva lot more to accept cash lodgments than they do for tap transactions – something like 3% vs 0.1%. Of course, some pubs mightn’t be lodging all their takings…

or just because taking card payments takes much longer than cash. Many pubs went cash only christmas eve / stephens day and it sped things right up . Some drunk hunzo out of taps for the day and forgets her pin and thats a barman down for 5 minutes trying to figure that out instead of serving drinks.
