and most of their drink stock is in their squelchy carpet: Most overrated pub in Dublin…and that’s in the face of much competition.
But Happy New Year to all!

They’re never able to accept card payments. Its a ridiculous situation for a busy city center pub, and always just makes me suspect “tax scam”. Theres no other reason why they wouldn’t have a few card machines.

Tapping cards, as most people do in pubs these days, takes far less time than paying with money and giving change.

True, but have you ever noticed that people who tap are generally knobs? I reckon they have the ‘no card’ policy to keep the knobs out.

Well their policy has failed miserably, it has the highest concentration of knobs of any pub in the city

There’s no obligation to accept cards and they don’t need your custom enough to care

I asked a barman about this before and it turns out that banks charge a helluva lot more to accept cash lodgments than they do for tap transactions – something like 3% vs 0.1%. Of course, some pubs mightn’t be lodging all their takings…

I think the cash-only policy is designed to keep the pub in the last century – one of its many charms.

or just because taking card payments takes much longer than cash. Many pubs went cash only christmas eve / stephens day and it sped things right up . Some drunk hunzo out of taps for the day and forgets her pin and thats a barman down for 5 minutes trying to figure that out instead of serving drinks.

Think it used to belong to some Ryan fella. Maybe some remains of aul decency are keeping the cards at bay
