“What’s changed in the Event Centre contract to increase the public fund requirement from an originally agreed €20m to €50m now.”? You ask.
Probably the installation of extra crowd control barriers or high speed broadband. Or – Remember that BAM and Dinny were involved together in a hotel development in Dublin recently.
You never know with FG.
Otis Blue
Post tender approval, the floor plan of the centre is reconfigured to increase it by 20%. However, this precipitates a 150% increase in the non-repayable grant sourced from tax payer funds.
That’s very tasty for BAM and Live Nation. Not so much for the tax payer.
It’s the ‘non- repay’ element to the increase that’s the worrying part
Well to me anyway
Non-repay pretty much promises that even if it makes money enough to cover it’s operation costs – it will still be a gift to the operators
Suckers
GiggidyGoo
Grants are generally non-repayable. If monies given were repayable, then it would be a loan.
This is a sop to BAM and whoever else, increased from€20m to €50m because something was redrawn. Lazy politicians (putting it mildly) pulling the teats of our finances with the mouths of the favoured few beneath. Strange that BAM isn’t going Dutch and financing it out of their own pockets.
Otis Blue
Seems odd to stress the non repayable element. All grants are conditional and require specific performance by the grantee.
The tone of the piece suggests The Examiner is sceptical.
Grants are treated as liabilities
In fact have their very own specific accounting standard
Ara’ meh
Go get one of your pals to put you right
And yes OhTea
There is every reason to be sceptical
GiggidyGoo
And grants are generally non-repayable.
The accountancy methods of recording them don’t get away from that FACT .
Meh, shur’, Ara, Bidda Hokey Smokie etc.
Maybe get one of your own pals to set you straight. They can inform you in Text Art maybe?
Well
Since you know so much
How is it the FAI have found themselves liable to repay monies they got ?
If even the Sports Direct spondoulies were treated correctly in their accounts
As liabilities until promises and conditions have been met/ completed and professionally signed off
Things mightn’t have come as a shock or being as dramatically desperate
Or at the very least – users of those accounts would know that income recorded had conditions attached
By publicly announcing that this grant top up will not have repayment as a penality promises that they don’t have to be treated as a liability in their accounts
So their balance sheet will always look pretty
And ripe and rosy for the private sector
Or even a particular business man who is well got in Fine Gael
And or one who might have difficulty raising finance
All State Grants are subject to be repaid
If the purpose (s) for which they were awarded hasn’t been fulfilled
Likewise if the conditions attached to them weren’t complied with
And tbh that has being the case since I started out almost 30 years ago
GiggidyGoo
So, what I’m saying is correct then – grants are generally non-repayable.
Odd that you have an aversion to understanding what’s written.
I know ‘so much’ as you put it, that I used the word ‘generally’ into my post.
Down off your high horse there V. Read and understand.
You have an inane habit of making quite an idiot of yourself recently – from your hotel comment (that had the potential to get BS into a spot of bother) to your virtue signaling post on the MF story.
I think you’ve me mixed up with someone else Grope
Have you put wrong logins on this morning
Hotel post?
MF story?
And it’s not generally btw
It’s a reporting compliance requirement
All grants even proportionally have to be presented in the accounts as Liabilities
As there is always the risk they may have to repaid until there is proof ie. Compliance Cert signed off is in place
And now the Cork Convention doesn’t have to do that
Nice
And btw
I’ve been bloggarding long before Broadsheet launched
So there is no lately about making a tit of myself
GiggidyGoo
Haven’t you mixed up at all Virtue. If you’re getting so low as to lie now, then that’s your problem. Shame on you though.
And, generally, grants aren’t repaid. Divert to accounting ‘procedures’ all you want, but it is a fact that they, generally, aren’t repaid.
Otis Blue
There’s an obvious distinction between repayable and being repaid. Have no doubt that the terms and conditions of pretty much any grant aid has a claw back clause stating the requirement to repay the grant where certain conditions or covenants are breached. The fact that, in all likelihood, such monies may not actually be sought by the granting body in such instances is a different issue.
Ah – the exit occurs – hard to get away from a couple of home truths eh?
Yep you’re a bit of a Mnah Mnah alright Virtue. Can’t help yourself. No shame.

3,000 more US troops on their way to the Middle East. – seems likely that Ireland is directly complicit in facilitating this reckless escalation by the US war machine. As Ron might say, we’re being led by gobdaws!

Hats off to the US for taking out this mass murderer with such a clinical strike.
Apparently our brave boys in the SAS had him in their sights in 2007 but their assassination attempt was vetoed by David Miliband, the older of the two useless Miliband brothers.
Think of how many innocent lives they would have saved in the years since then.
No surprise to see Comrade Corbyn condemning it – he’s been on the payroll of Iranian Press TV for years.
And all this nonsense about stopping the re-fuelling flights at Shannon is ,well, just nonsense.
Ireland may well be the lapdog of the EU but it’s also Uncle Sam’s poodle.
Suck it up lads. At least the Shannon duty free shop does a roaring trade in chewing gum and baseball hats.
Yeehaaa !

You obviously haven’t a clue what you’re talking about and seem to have adopted a western imperialist mindset, subconsciously or otherwise . It’s the US-led cabal who’ve been purposely destabilising much of the MENA region for 2 decades now with their illegal invasions and occupations, a policy of perpetual war and the funding, training and arming of radical Islamic proxies including ISIS. Qasem Soleimani has been the single most effective military figure in defeaing those extremist proxy groups.

You’ll go blind with that John McGuirk blow-up doll.
