If it’s true that they didn’t inform the Queen of their intentions, then it is quite a big deal for the future of the monarchy.

It’s downright rude, is what it is. Show some respect for your nana, Harry.

I saw someone comparing it to Edward and Wallis, which gave me something of a giggle.

That’s brilliant. Didn’t know that at all. Really enjoyed any scene with ‘Peaches’ and himself actually. He did a marvellous job of being a human oil slick.

Varadkar is now, childishly, squirming. Day after day now, he is providing….what’s that favorite FG word?…… Clarity. Clarity, that is, as to his mental fitness to be at the helm as Taoiseach.
It’s coming out in the wash big time now, that these FG boys are pretending to be able to act like men.

Boy Harris – college drop-out as Health Minister? Look at the state of the health service. And met the NCH board how many times in three years? Twice. Record Increase in people on trollies under his watch.
Boutique Boy Murphy. Hasn’t a clue. Increase in homelessness under his watch

And Varadkar – who is also Defence Minister by the way – abject immature. In the position as leader despite the majority of the FG party wanting Coveney. The chickens have come home to roost.

Few things have to happen for that though.
          a) He must get re-elected – and that’s not a given.
          b) FG must get a resounding vote of confidence – i.e. they must not lose seats
          c) The Dail would have to vote him in as leader. That means he has to be nominated. Could well happen that FG will look for a change in leader given that Varadkars immaturity (to say the least) has manifested itself time after time. Coveney excelled in the statesmanship stakes on the European stage. While Varadkar hid, Coveney (and McEntee) provided far better leadership and portrayal of this state. In fact, give McEntee a few more years and she will be a contender for leadership of FG.

The grassroots are not happy with him as their leader, as it’s not who they wanted. They wanted a Coveney.
Those FG TDs who railroaded the decision through have lost some of their own supporters (voters, but more importantly those who had previously canvassed for them).

If FF are the larger party, then Michilín would probably be next Taoiseach, and Coveney Tanaiste.
FFG are basically the same now. A merger would be best for them.

Gilmore for Taoiseach. Ha ha haaaawwww.

        3. Rob_G

          a) I don’t think that a sitting Taoiseach has ever lost his seat; Leo will 100% be re-elected
          b) agree with you here
          c) No doubt that Coveney is gunning to be leader, but if Leo wins enough seats for a another FG Taosieach, I doubt there be enough dissatisfaction for a leadership change.

What do you reckon about Helen McEntee Rob? I believe she has performed well, and with a couple of years more experience in high octane positions (like her role during Brexit), I think you’re probably looking at a future leader of FG. She isn’t carrying any baggage, and seems to be down to earth.

          1. Harry M

played him in a game of darts once (tavern was closed to the public obviously), he’s more like a quaddie with an impeccable accent and can down his ale but he is a nice chap

A few points that the Someone’s Useful Idiots around the place lately should try and absorb
The Safest seat in Dublin – if not the whole Country – save for Seán Ó Fearghaíl’s
      Is Leo Varadkar’s

And one of the weakest FG seats is Simon Coveney’s

      the eFFers will gain seats
nor will there be a FG wipe out – I reckon they’ll still be neck n’ neck and return in an around the same number of deputies – a few losses washed over with a few gains.

big losses for the Independents and the hard left PBP collectives
Sinn Fein will do alright to return with the same number tbh
FG will take that seat back from Mark Ward

Intriguing input there Virtue. No doubt you’ll change your views a few times between this and the election. Nothing like an each-way bet. About as exciting as an meeting of accountants.
