DJ Shadow feat. Run the Jewels – “Nobody Speak”
Less a guest appearance by Run the Jewels, more so their own track produced by DJ Shadow. Somewhat comical lyrics to get across their political viewpoints and frustrations, could listen to it on repeat
Love the video too

Midway thru the decade, Beck released what I believe to be his magnum opus. I am of course referring to Morning Phase.
On that album, a track called Heart is a Drum stood out to me. As a track, it’s tight yet airy and warm. It’s melodic and has wonderful rhythm. It’s harmonies are syrupy and with its mellow but distinctive stringed bass, it’s a track (and album) I can’t stop playing. It’s also a piece of music imo that was made for vinyl. Or vice versa…
Love it.

That was bloody lovely. Thanks for posting it, I’ll give the album a good listen tonight

While there’s loads of brilliant songs, particularly from the first half of the decade, I would have to say the objectively correct answer is Beach House – Myth.
It’s the kind of song where you can fall in love with someone on the drive home.

This was my favourite-
Crossing Muddy Waters

So much to recommend this:
Aoife’s voice is just gorgeous and her companions are all respected musicians in their own right.
The song is by John Hyatt and MAY have been written with his second wife in mind as she died by suicide.
“She left me in my tears to drown” has to be one of the most poignant lyric lines.
Just perfect and one of my all time favourites too.
Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars.
A timeless dance classic.
I’ve thrown some shapes to this sucker in nightclubs across the world.
And it wasn’t a pretty sight.
Great video too.
In 10 years time this will still be being played more often than all the other tracks on here put together.

I love this song. Very hard not to start dancing like a fool when this comes on.
I have no rhythm.
I have to admit that I was very struck by Clare Sand’s song Dance X3, which sadly did not get the airtime I think it deserved. A wonderful funky and mellow tune.

David Bowie – I can’t give everything away

What a beautiful and sad way to say goodbye to the world. Ends the album and his life story beautifully
Incredible song, I actually posted it in a previous one of these.
can you believe its 4 years ago today that he died?!
Too right.
very hard to pick one song, so I’ll go back to one of my most-played albums of the decade, all the way back to 2011: Metronomy’s “The English Riviera”, a great mix of electro and smooth pop (that TBH they haven’t really matched with their subsequent albums).
I could pick either of the singles from the album “The Look” or “The Bay”, there’s not much between them, but I’ll go for the “The Bay”:

Enjoying these favs… I’ll have a think myself.

In the meantime, are you sick of the ads on YouTube interrupting your songs? Haven’t they got more frequent and more annoying lately?
I have a solution!!!
How to use YouTube on your Android phone with no ads.
Download the Brave browser.
Go to YouTube and copy the mobile weblink.
Go to the Brave browser ‘Settings’ located at the bottom right of the browser’s page (3 dots). Go to homepage and paste the YouTube link in as your homepage.
Also scroll to ‘Brave Rewards’ in settings and turn that off.
Close the browser. And open again and you have YouTube with no ads.
You can login, save to playlists, comment and all that as normal too.
And you’re done.
Bonus:
Unlike the bog standard YouTube app, the Brave browser also supports ‘background playback’, so you can minimise the browser and open another app and the music keeps playing (you can turn this on/off in settings too).
Brave on Google Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brave.browser
And when done, delete the YouTube app and just use Brave as your YouTube app.
thanks, clamps
have long been miffed at the background playback hurdle on YouTube. this works great.
I’ve been using Opera of late, for some reason it seems to support RTÉ player better than other platforms – I watched Love/Hate from beginning to end (Didn’t see it originally). Spoiler alert – pretty much everyone dies. I would really not be familiar to the past decade of music, I’m a 60s/70s type – I’m guessing I’m not going to win the voucher.

My song of the last decade is the hauntingly beautiful Jordan by Rival Sons. This song will move you and last year when they played this in the Academy it was my musical highlight of the year. https://youtu.be/yN_5xhgV-XA
My song choice is Courtney Barnett’s ‘Avant Gardener’
Courtney is an amazing lyricist who really can tell a story with a song, and delivers in such a wonderfully deadpan vocal style that leaves me smilin’. This is superbly matched to her brilliant guitar play… and live too, she’s a super rocker :0)

“Should’ve stayed in bed today
I much prefer the mundane
I take a hit from
An asthma puffer
I do it wrong
I was never good at smoking bongs
I’m not that good at breathing in
I’m not that good at breathing in”
(I honestly struggled to pick one song of hers… ‘Pedestrian At Best’ is a kick a** tune, and ‘Elevator Operator’ is a simply brilliant lyrical story)
Was there a couple of Broadsheet competitions before Xmas that there was no result announced – Lindt and Jam Pop something or other?
Liam, there were winners. I may not have done posts on them. I’ll sort it out for Monday. No funny business.
No bunny business!
Ah fair play Bodger
Monday you say ?
No funny business you say ?
Heh,heh,heh.
A decade is impossible scope!

Daft Punk (+ Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers) – Get Lucky
Arcade fire – sprawl II (mountains beyond mountains)
It’s too hard to pick a favourite! But I must try if I would like to win the prize.
This is a great song and has a fantastic video to boot:
