Meanwhile, In Strasbourg

at

Mick Wallace MEP in the European Parliament

In the last few minutes.

At the European Parliament in Strasbourg during a debate about the situation in Iran and Iraq…

MEP Mick Wallace told the parliament:

“The crazy decision of the US to carry out the illegal assassination of [Qasem] Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and others is just the most recent testament to the fact that US is the most reckless, destabilising and dangerous political and military force on the planet at the moment.

“The US and their allies claim to be fighting a war on terror whenever they drop bombs and kill people.

“And here they’ve taken out some of the people who’ve done more to fight Isis than anyone else that we know.

“They’ve been asked to get out of Iraq. Are they going to get out of it? Are they going to recognise the democratic decision?

“They claim they have brought the democracy to Iraq. Are they going to respect it now?

“Commissioner, do you not agree that this region will be a safer place when the Americans are not in it?

“You talk about Iran not respecting the nuclear agreements. Do youse ever ask any questions of Israel?

“What in God’s name? Why won’t Europe show a bit of courage and stand up to the terrorism of America?”

Just love it when one of the heros of the Wallace – Daly Tendancy gets it. Last time I saw them they were swanning around Syria as guests of the genocidal Assad.

    Ah would ye shurrup
At least Mick is saying it as it is
Very few Irish Politicans open their traps out there
    Or here in fairness
On Foreign Affairs that aren’t EU or Brexit related
    Or connected to a Junket

There was a time when the Paddys were engaged and well informed on all matters of conflict or unrest or injustice across the globe

Now it’s almost like it’s a fringe or splinter group activity

    C’mon
He’s not the worst we’ve ever sent out there

    Well said Mick Wallace.

I see that old logical fallacy has been trotted out: “He wouldn’t choose to live under the dictatorships of Iran or NK, etc over the US, so who does he think he is criticising the actions of the US government?” Maybe it makes sense if you’re used to thinking in binary terms and you have the xenophobic, western-supremacist mindset that the US military is essentially over there spreading freedom and democracy and protecting us all from the tyranny of the East ;)

He is of course completely right in what he says.. it’s just not the whole story.. meanwhile.. I note that’s a new T-shirt that (mostly) fits him. The muted tone much better against his skin and hair which is expertly coifed. He’s manicured and clean. Brussels is being kind to Mike – man of the people..

Love him or hate him he raises some perfectly valid questions. It’s hilarious how politicians sidestep the issue of Israel and its nuclear weapons. Why is this never brought up?

…in fairness, Netanyahu himself referred to his nukes recently…like the two-state negotiations…another pretence abandoned…

    2. Caroline. No.

1 it’s not hilarious – the question is stupid and
2 the Israelis are our friends

And as such have not declared acts of war on our allies

      What else did you need?

        1. Caroline. No.

They clearly are. Compared to many others.
It’s a relative term. And admittedly they are the type of friend you don’t want to be seen out in the pub with after they had one too many. But seriously we need to get realistic and avoid sjw groupthink

You sound you like you know what you’re talking about Caroline No.
‘Declare an act of war’ That’s a new one on me.
