The Times makes grim reading. The excuse why police ignored the sexual abuse of children (the identity of the perpetrators) was ‘we can’t afford it coming out’ that they were asians, and it would cause ‘racial tensions’. That was 13 years ago, and only now are the police being brought to account.

The liberal UK Twittersphere have been whining themselves into a tantrum this week over the actor Laurence Fox’s anti-woke comments on Question Time.
Not a peep about the shocking Asian grooming gangs story in Manchester.
Imagine if they were Asian girls being groomed by white gangs …
+1 Giggidy and Charger… bunch of feckin’ woke far-leftist liberal social justice style censorship is what has caused this diabolical avoidance of truth and genuine justice.
It is beyond doubt the result of so called far-leftist ‘social justice’ ideology where anyone, including the police, as demonstrated, can be prevented from doing theit job for fear of being called racist or fascist or any other slur. The irony is that this is real fascism by far-leftist ideologues who prefer the appearance of justice, ie social justice, to actual justice.

In much the same way as the media skirt around the fact that the current gang warfare in Drogheda and much of the armed violence in Ireland is very much a Traveller-related issue.
And that the media in the UK avoid the uncomfortable truth that 90% of the murder victims and perpetrators of those crimes in London come from BAME or recently arrived immigrant backgrounds.

“the current gang warfare in Drogheda and much of the armed violence in Ireland is very much a Traveller-related issue.“

Afraid of increased “racial tensions” said the Police Chief… that fear, stoked by the woke and politically correct resulting in the Police fearing being labelled racist. It’s simple really.
Nigel
‘Racial tensions’ have nothing whatsoever to do with ‘political correctness.’ As for accusing the police of racism, given what the Chief Inspector is supposed to have said, that sounds like it could be a fair cop. Racist police cover up grooming ring because they’re afriad of being called racist? Yeah, that looks like the fault of woke far left liberal social justice types.
Clampers Outside
You clearly believe the Police Chief and the UK police force are racists….
OK pet, OK.
Nigel
For the CI I’m going by what’s there on the front page of the paper, the very story you are referring to, and there is a general perception that the UK police have a problem with racism.
…ah Charger…I was relying on you to address the big question of the day – the Big Ben Bong…I have a solution for you…our national broadcaster, RTE, are coming to terms with the inexorable move towards a more secular society and could be persuaded to sell their call to prayer broadcast twice daily…your BBC could broadcast these bongs at 11pm daily…you could call them the Angelas…

Nice timely piece from the WSJ on ‘political advertising’
I particularly enjoyed and wholly agree with the section on online advertising, which references the Cambridge Analytica scandal as “pop psychology BS”.
Remember that no one has ever produced one single iota of evidence that voters minds were changed by Cambridge Analytica – no one…. zilch, nada, nuffin’
How would that evidence be gathered? Wouldn’t they have to know people’s opinions before they were subjected to all the targeted advertising?
I have a friend who’s a bit of a hippy. Over the past few years he’s progressed from sharing videos of hippy gatherings and ancient spiritual beliefs to sharing anti-vax videos, wi-fi causes cancer videos and, lately, videos questioning the numbers in the holocaust. I am in no doubt that he is being radicalised (for want of a better word) by targeted links on social media and YouTube’s dodgy “recommended videos” algorithm. It doesn’t happen overnight but it definitely happens.
Clampers Outside
I hear ya. And as per your story, it didn’t happen overnight. How long was Cambridge Analytica operating these campaigns? Certainly not as long as your friend. Also, there is the mindset of an individual, like your friend, one who is ‘actively seeking’ out as opposed to CA’s advertising model targeting a ‘passive receptor’.
People do not actively seek to receive advertising, but receive advertising passively (including interactive advertising).
Clampers Outside
On your original questions at the top, yes. Thing is that any time research is done where they do know answers to all those questions the results show tiny effects.
Remember to, of course the pink haired fella was going to claim his “magic algorithm” could change minds and the like…. if it were true, every multi-million dollar ad agency would be banging on his door for a look at his Willy Wonka type fantasy ticket to advertising heaven…. it was always overblown bullpoo.
That harp symbol watermark on the video on the Irish independent website is identical to the harp symbol of the Irish independent.
Are the Irish independent breaking the law by using the harp as their logo?
Or do you want to rethink your position?
GiggidyGoo
You tell me. The Harp emblem on a political video, whether put there by the political party, or inserted by their mouthpiece – what do you think eh Cian. If they’ve added it to the political video then would you consider the law is being broken?
Cian
I think you’re doubling down on stupid.
A harp emblem isn’t restricted.
Look at Guinness, Ryanair, the indo, Leinster, even Fianna Fail uses a harp. They all have harps as their logo. And yes, there is also a government harp (it’s on tbe coinage too). That one specific harp is copyrighted to the government. But the others belong to other people.
But the harp on the video you linked to looks nothing like the government harp. It looks like the iirish ndependent’s logo. And gosh. It’s on the Irish independent website. So at a guess, the indo put their logo on the video they are hosting.
GiggidyGoo
‘looks nothing like the government harp’. Looks like a guitar then? Talk about doubling down on stupid.
I agree though that it’s not exactly like the government harp. However the placing of it onto a government video does give the impression that the government placed the harp onto it – like it or not. I’m sure the electorate don’t go into the finer detail of how many strings are on the … guitar ….. sorry, harp.
Cian
The Irish independent ALWAYS put their logo on the videos they host. The irish independamt logo is a HARP.
