The Health service will remain mediocre until,
1) It stops being run for the benefit of public service unions
2) Politicians stop having any say in how it is configured (e.g Portaloise hospital and Charlie Flanagan).
that’s it.
Are you including the nurses’ union there? Can you explain how lower-paid frontline health professionals with poor working conditions will lead to a better health service, and where else in the world that’s been the case?
Yes.
Public service unions prevent patients benefitting from modern opening hours (not just 9 to 4.30), flexible service delivery, proper availability of out of hours emergency services (e.g weekend MRI scanning), staff being where they are now needed (not just where they have always been), the most appropriate staff dong the job (e.g operating room technicians instead of nurses) etc, etc, etc, etc.
Jake38… THIS needs to be said again and again.
The core of the issue.
@Bob
Irish nurses are amongst the highest-paid in the OECD…
…..That work in some of the worst conditions in the OECD.
It’s not all about money.
…disingenuous…Stephen Donnelly is the very personification of that…the Soc Dems did well to spot him…
Thats some melon.

Perhaps have all the King’s men…and their horses on standby.

Don’t forget Shane Ross – great at the newsworthy soundbite when he was in opposition… but a disaster as minister
And of course, the main man himself, Leo.
I don’t remember him when he was in opposition. It was a very brief stint! :)
Hehehehe ;)
Leo was always a great man for the soundbite and commenting on any dept but his own. Slightly harder to do that as Taoiseach.
Head like a fupping orange
In fairness it is a substantial cranium.
