Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar shakes hands with candidate Peter Casey at the Presidential election count centre at Dublin Castle on November 27, 2018
This afternoon.
Via The Irish Times:
Peter Casey has put his name on the ballot paper in Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s Dublin West constituency as an “obvious protest vote” against the Fine Gael leader, while focusing on winning a seat in the Donegal constituency.
On Wednesday morning Mr Casey, the businessman and former presidential candidate, submitted his papers to contest the Dublin West race, having submitted papers to stand in Donegal on Tuesday. There is no restriction on a candidate running in multiple constituencies.
Peter Casey to stand in both Donegal and Dublin West (Irish Times)
Earlier: A Race Of Angels
It would be nice if this was just ignored by the press.
Why ?
He’s entitled to stand.
Good luck to him – Ireland needs more politicians like Casey to voice people’s real concerns.
His entitlement to stand does not mean his standing has to be covered in the press.
February 8th will tell us how close Peter Casey’s opinions run to “people’s real concerns”.
He’s a former Presidential nominee – you haven’t a clue what’s newsworthy, beret boy.
He picked up just 9.5pc of votes in the European election and is only running in Dublin West to get press coverage. Like it or not Spoofer, editors still have a choice about what they publish.
You still here? I thought you were against immigrants taking up houses.
He’s the LAST thing Ireland needs!
He is returning the compliment to Varadkar, who told people not to vote for Casey in the Presidential election.
Varadkar will be busy reaping what he has sowed all.over the shop.
There are better alternatives to give a protest vote in Dublin West than some attention seeking racist.
Not voting for people you don’t like is not a “protest vote”. It is democracy.
Casey is the one claiming that he is running in Dublin West to allow people vote for him as a protest vote against Varadkar.
Don’t know what better way to pressurize Varadkar than returning the compliment.
Surely nobody entertaining the idea of voting for Varadkar would vote for Casey anyway? Seems a surefire way to dilute the ‘protest’ vote if anything
I dunno, they have a fair bit in common.
Both stoking and flirting with far right ideologies to attract that unfortunately growing cohort of voters: anti-immigrant/traveller rhetoric from Casey, FG’s triste with Verona Murphy despite her views, FG voting with fascists in Europe to inhibit the rescue of drowning migrants in the mediterranean etc. etc.
I’d pick him over vardkar. thats how harmful varadkar is
Just don’t bother voting for either of them or any other f ‘ers in the F-f/g incompetant, lazy, corrupt, averice-ridden duopoly illusion of democracy party..
If in doubt.. Go for an honest decent hard working local independent candidate…
(Assuming the candidate has no aspiration of being in or already has an affiliation with said corrupt system)
Back your local independent all the way… 99% of the time, the gains(gifts for us all in society) just keep on giving… Even and especially so, in opposition to the mass hysteria and insanity of the brainwashed majority voters supporting the status quo.
Give it a try at least once until the next farcical episode of how seemingly pointless it is to expect any real meaningful long term progressive change any time soon in Ireland.
How do you eat up the humongous Elephant size political problems in society?…
Wake up, educate and engage yourself with the history and reality…
Play the long game!…
