‘Break The Tyranny’

at

Today’s Irish Independent

‘Walking down the street this morning, passing all the election posters, I thought about all of the mediocre men who have been elected to Leinster House over the years and how the most mediocre of all those men got elected because he was born a man (and his dad was probably a TD before him).

Female candidates have to work twice as hard to convince the electorate that they’re really as worthy as that man who has coasted along on his male privilege his whole life. They deserve a chance from all of us….

…If I meet a candidate who seems competent, hard-working and her politics somewhat align with mine, and she’s a woman, she is getting my vote next month.

Women cannot just be sidelined, arguing for change from our kitchens, we need to be allowed to thrive and fulfil our true potential in the political world too. Now, it’s women’s turn…’

Lorraine Courtney: ‘Give your vote to a woman – it’s the only way to break the tyranny of mediocre men’ (Independent.ie)

funny how all the gammon types start going on about how such a concept will ruin our existing ‘meritocracy’ when it’s brought up, as if our electoral history to date is totally based on merit to begin with

Ouch that hurt my feelings, surely you learned that hurting peoples feelings is bad in your social justice undergraduate course.

” stopped reading at childhood by the looks ”

It’s the irony of this dunderhead not using a capital letter or punctuation that’s the most droll.
It’s no wonder Irish universities are plummeting down the league tables of excellence.

          2. millie vanilly strikes again

Get your own house in order before you start slinging poo, Charger. Your own punctuation needs a good look.

          3. Charger Salmons

I’ll have you know my punctuation is tickety-boo.
And I’m not sure punctuation has eyes to look.
            Fnarr, fnarr.

It’s really not. Take a look at your use of quotation marks above.

Back to the schoolroom for you.

“Women have to work twice as hard”…what a load of old bull. The current list of women TDs is mediocre at best. Generally speaking, as is the case with anything tbat involves the state, they’re a mediocre bunch across the board with a few exceptions.

Why is it acceptable to vote based on sex but for some reason you can’t do this when hiring?

It’s also very very weird to vote for someone based in laege part on their genitalia.

“It’s also very very weird to vote for someone based in laege part on their genitalia.”

I’m guessing you don’t watch Love Island so….

      1. Dr_Chimp

        I don’t I’m afraid.

But if your the type to vote on love island you’re probably unaware that there is an election next month

    2. Nullzero

How many of them are there based on gender quotas to begin with?

Irish politics has always had jobs for the boys now we have jobs for the girls too, neither deserve what they’ve got and continue to screw over normal Irish women, men and people who identify as various genders or objects.

      1. Dr_Chimp

As far as I know this whole quota thing is very new and recent. Another complete load of poo. There is no law of the universe that says the structure of any team/organisation/anything should exactly represent the population or even that such a system would be desirable/achieve better outcomes.

Humphreys, Doherty, Mitchell O’Connor, Madigan, Bailey, Fitzgerald et al make it clear that mediocrity is not merely a male preserve.

    1. millie vanilly strikes again

Have to agree there. I’d rather vote on merit than whether my candidate has a womb.

  4. Captain Pants

Yes Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May really broke through all that ‘male’ mediocrity and brought in truly progressive ‘female’ policies didn’t they?

    1. D

Aung San Suu Kyi, Marine le Pen, Arlene Foster.
All warm and fuzzy thinking about them.
You see, it’s their higher Emotional Intelligence – ‘EQ’ – that makes them such great leaders.

  5. freddy8toes

How about voting for candidates on merit and leaving gender out of it altogether?

Strange concept but could be something to it.

  6. NobleLocks

When I was a kid my mother was told by a neighbor that she “was only voting for Mary Robinson because she’s a women”. My mother retorted that he “was not voting for Mary Robinson because she’s a woman”. No token will get a vote from me. Earn it or begone.

The conceit of these women to think that they’ll be better because vagina is insulting to the intelligence of humanity.

And thus they clothe this naked villainy in righteous conceit, stolen forth from SJW writ and seem a saint when most they play the Harpie.

    1. Dr_Chimp

That’s exactly it. Deep down they don’t just want women or “diversity” in general…they just want people who look differently but think the same as them

  7. ReproBertie

“and his dad was probably a TD before him”
Enough with voting for the sons of TDs. Vote for their daughters!

  8. DOC

The only Female TD that is doing a decent Job At the moment is Mary Lou
    And maybe Roisin Shortall
    In my humble opinion…

    1. NobleLocks

Sorry, but Mary Lou openly stated that she wants Social Justice as the norm which immediately makes her the wrong person for everything. And I’m not exaggerating there. I mean absolutely EVERYTHING. “Social” justice poisons everything it touches and destroys lives by using identity politics to advance authoritarian and intolerant hatred. Mary might be a lot of things to a lot of people, but to me she’s a bandwagon idiot who is willing to use any method to appeal to the electorate…. which makes her EXACTLY the same as all of the other poos. i.e. the Wrong person for the job.

  9. Dr.Fart

the irony of that sentiment with the photo used, displaying some truly awful Irish women. Resembles Kitty’s sisters somewhat, haw haw. Anyway, politics is full of awful women; Regina Doherty, Joan Burton, Josepha Madigan, Maria Bailey, Kate McConnell, Rebecca Moynihan, Frances Fitzgerald, Mary Hanafin, .. jesus i could go on all day .. we need good, well meaning, intelligent women in politics, not just “any woman”, most of the women in there already are no different to their male counterparts. gammons at the trough.

    1. A Person

I note that you mentioned no lefty politicians in that comment. Any woman who disagrees with your backward politics is not well meaning or intelligent. Sexist no?

      1. Dr.Fart

none of the “leftie” politicians have implemented or supported harsh right-wing policies or have attempted fraud or any number of other horrible things the people listed have done.

        1. A Person

At least they tried to implement something unlike you moaners / hurlers on the ditch. Lets introduce populist nonsense, that we never have to implement as we know we won’t be in govt. Notwithstanding are you really saying Brid Smith and Ruth Moaner have been outstanding politicians. What have they done – oh, you are right nowt because they did not want to go into power and make decisions.

  10. Madam X

What a load of tosh. You want me to vote for Burton? The woman who cut respite care for carers. . Woman like men should be voted for on merit not because of what’s between their legs

  11. Slightly Bemused

I am very proud to say that I voted for a woman in the last election, and will again for the same one in this upcoming vote. I did not vote for her because she is a woman, but because she is an extremely hard worker with a long history of representing those less fortunate. She has pinned Ministers and Taoisaigh and grilled them when needed. She has not pandered to the standard political apathy, but has worked without relent on the issues she believes in.

Her gender is irrelevant, but I do wish the other TDs in my constituency would work half as hard as she does: all 3 of whom are male.

  12. GiggidyGoo

    “If I meet a woman who is……..”
Obviously they are in short supply then, or don’t frequent the same circles as herself.
