I feel cheated. BS managed to miss the launch of the Green Party manifesto. Any chance you can get it up so we can have a bit of sport that’s more than some auld fella getting his knickers in a twist with some bizarre punctuation fetish..?
Cú Chulainn
Not that I have anything against any sort of fetish ..
Redbeard
It’s sad to see, in a way. There was a time when his comments were (very) occasionally mildly humourous, but now it’s just fairly pathetic and pitiful attempts at trolling. You’d have to ask yourself if this is a sign of things to come as their myopic Brexit vision starts to meet cold hard reality.
Charger Salmons
The Greens are keen to ” explore ” scrapping homework for primary school children, according to their manifesto.
It appears they think most school kids do too much homework and it would be better if they spent more time with their family.
Given Ireland’s increasingly poor performance in third level education with universities shredding their reputations for excellence I would have thought more not less homework the answer.
But who really takes the Greens seriously these days anyway ? https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/green-party-promises-to-explore-the-scrapping-of-homework-for-primary-school-children-38894616.html
Rosette of Sirius
Not enough carbolic in primary school kid’s lives either, wha?
Nigel
Good. It’s an excellent suggestion. The parents of primary school kids will be mostly in favour of that, as will anyone with any familiarity with educational studies.
George
If that’s what cloud nine looks like she should dial it back to 7 or less.
Janet, I ate my avatar
can’t zoom in on stories as I usually can, are they loaded to the site differently ?
GiggidyGoo
Varadkar was the one who reintroduced the secretarial allowance for former Taoisaigh. Forward planning.
Meanwhile, in Wexford, a lot of people predicting Verona Murphy will take a seat, and the reason is that she is not afraid to discuss illegal immigration – noticeable that the MSM are doing FFGLABs bidding by not questioning leaders about it.
The attempted rout by Statler and Waldorf on Virgin Media earlier in the week, with the ‘Aren’t you glad you kicked her out of the party’ question failed miserably and showed up Cooper for what he is, and Yates as being bankrupt in the cleverness stakes.
She handled it perfectly, and the FG-loaded gang were unable to corral her.
Not that Ill be giving her any vote – once a FGer, always a FGer. Like Perry, like Naughten etc.
Pat Mustard
Like that vile Zappone..
GiggidyGoo
Aye, the one Kenny put in the Seanad, who rewarded him with voting with FG. And the one who takes the long way to work resulting in tens of thousands of Euro in her pocket.
She’s on the way out this time i’d reckon.
Otis Blue
I’d say so. She was elected off 6.6% of the FPV in 2016. Hard to see that she’d be immune from a FG pasting by the electorate.
Still, she’s touting her wares in the ST today saying she’d serve in MM’s cabinet if he commits €150m to childcare.
GiggidyGoo
She handed back €60m in childcare money relating to 2018. She’s another waster peddling her wares. She’s overseen Tuam, and tried to stifle an investigation into that.
Daisy Chainsaw
She won’t. Murphy’s vote came from loyal FG voters. Now that she’s not in the party, that’s a significant percentage of her tally gone. She has no public or community service history, only a few crazy, racist soundbites. The racist vote in Wexford is about 500.
Pat Mustard
No it didn’t, she’s president of the road hauliers association. She has a genuine following that’s why FG chose her initially.
And remember what happened to Peter Caseys numbers when he swung to the right.
Daisy Chainsaw
Being a racist hasn’t gotten anyone elected lately, most don’t get their deposits back. Murphy might have a few truckers supporting her, but she won’t get elected solely by them.
GiggidyGoo
Are you saying that Verona Murphy is a racist – seriously? I won’t be voting for the woman, but I don’t think she’s racist. She is highlighting illegal immigration.
She made a very valid point on the Statler and Waldorf show, when she stated (on the subject of the 16 illegal immigrants found on a truck at Rosslare) that the truck driver was held for 24 hours questioning, yet the 16 illegals were set free and disappeared into god knows where, almost immediately. That isn’t racist. That’s highlighting where the State’s priorities lie.
GiggidyGoo
I think you’re underestimating the feeling out there regarding illegal immigration Daisy.
If you take political subjects that would be debated by ordinary folk, like health, housing and now pensions, you’ll find that illegal immigration is up there with them all.
The MSM try steer the conversation elsewhere, and it isn’t working.
Will it be a topic in the leaders debate tomorrow? Doubtful.
But it’s an important discussion that is being debated on the ground. The TDs and potential TDs are getting it on the doorstep.
Brother Barnabas
“are getting it on the doorstep”
says who, goo?
GiggidyGoo
Says me BB.
Brother Barnabas
gotcha
up there with “says me hoop”
GiggidyGoo
Well, unless you’ve something to discount it, enjoy your hoop.
Brother Barnabas
perhaps we move in different circles so, goo. nobody I know is upset about immigrants. and its not what they’re talking about. granted, though, I’d make a point of steering clear of racists.
Cú Chulainn
Well, I grew up in west dublin, and for all the hardship there was great camaraderie.. no one I know is a racist.. but immigration is topic every one talks about. As a friend of mine said, ‘we’re all liberals Cú, until a family of 5 Albanians get a house two doors down and 50 move in’.
GiggidyGoo
BB – nowhere in any of my comments above do I refer to racism. It’s a pet subject of yours though. Could it be that you’re a racist, in denial?
Brother Barnabas
yeah, got me. I always feared this exposure would sting but, now that it’s happened, it feels liberating. I’m also homophobic, misogynistic and sexually deviant. thanks, goo. you’ve helped me more than you’ll ever know.
Caroline. Yes.
So two oul fellas think racism isn’t real
GiggidyGoo
Caroline – shouldn’t you be getting dressed for kindergarten? Yes? No?
Charger Salmons
I thought you lived on the Costa del Expat, Brother ?
Correct me if I’m wrong.
Brother Barnabas
you’re wrong
I think I mentioned once that I happened to be in malaga at the time
I live in various different places – berlin is main home, these days
thank you for your interest

At a glance I thought it was the Ozzy Osborne story again.
Well that’s the Late Late all set for a guest next week.

Horrific for their poor father.
millie vanilly strikes again
Can’t stop thinking about how absolutely devastating situation this must be for him.
Charger Salmons
Teachers will definitely be in favour of it because it means less work for them.
And the Green Party spokesperson says ” do they really need to be coming home and learning 12 words in Irish and English and doing a spelling test “.
Er, yes some of us think they do.
Educational discipline and routine are far more important than some woolly, liberal idea of ” let the kids develop how they want. “
Nigel
No it won’t. They’ll be doing exactly the same amount of work, it just won’t be correcting homework. They get plenty of educational discipline in school. Your objections are helicopter parenting by proxy.
Brother Barnabas
when do they learn the different between restrictive clauses and nonrestrictive clauses? 6 years of age? senior infants?
asking for a friend (*winks at charger*)
Papi
Careful now, no one has ever, ever winked at Charger. And it shows.
Cú Chulainn
Of course.. we have ‘wetting the bogs’ as well.. reintroducing bogs into Ireland. Then getting 30% of the land forested by 2030. Every footpath will be widened..
Brother Barnabas
terrible mistake
he’s been ringing my doorbell for the last 5 hours
I kind of need to go out now
Nigel
(Re) wetting bogs, increasing continuous sustainable broad-leaf forestry and widening footpaths are, again, all excellent policies.
Cú Chulainn
Of course they are.. but.. they are also absolutely unattainable in the physical realm..
Nigel
Don’t be ridiculous.
Nigel
How can they expect to become disposable zero-hour contracters with shoddy emplyer-dependant health insurance and crippling debt if they can’t split an infinitive by third class?
