Such Devoted Hipster Sisters

at

Slurp.

This afternoon.

Barry’s Tea has released its first TV ad in over three years.

Directed by Nick Kelly (not our one), it features sisters who “despite their hectic lives” always find time to “catch up over a cup of Barry’s Tea via Skype”.

Dan Goggin writes:

Shot in Dublin and Brooklyn, New York, ‘Sisters’ tells the true story of older sister, Nora, who has a job in Dublin and her younger sister, Gina, who’s chasing her dream as an actress in New York.

….The ad celebrates the fun and meaningful moments the sisters share, concluding in a heartwarming climax when Nora surprises her sister by showing up to the opening night of Gina’s play in Brooklyn.

Sisters’ features a contemporary version of the 80’s pop classic: I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers by Irish performer Fya Fox…

Great tea.

Even better Skype connection.

” ‘Sisters’ tells the true story of older sister, Nora, who has a job in Dublin and her younger sister, Gina, who’s chasing her dream as an actress in New York.”

so the dublin one ekes out a miserable 9-5 existence (“has a job”), while the new york lives her dream?

    thanks blushirts

Has anyone been able to watch it? It just shows 7 views. And what moron decided to host it on Vimeo.

I want to see the place the yank is living in. You can get a small glimpse in the background with a chandelier, high ceilings and big beams. While the sister is probably renting in Tallaght at €1950 a month.

If luvvie sis overdoes the meaningful moments – can’t have Skype ‘n tea without biscuits – in no time at all we’ll have fat lady sings (the blues).

Good ol’ Barry’s – every single teabag releasing their microplastic and nanoplastic goodness into the cup
Could be somewhere in the region of 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion smaller nanoplastic particles according to a recent study of teabags similar Barry’s which use a plastic seal. Barry’s have promised to phase their plastic-sealed teabags out but “progress has been painfully slow” according to this article:

    https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/food-and-drink/is-there-plastic-in-your-teabags-most-probably-yes-1.4109634

According to the link, Lyons have already phased it out on 40/80/160 packs of their teabags… now I know why the bags are ripping when I squeeze them to side of cup…

yeah I squeeze every last drop out of those baby’s, what about it?

Are we still doing that thing (in every ad) where a woman sings a song, originally sang by a man, in a slower, more ‘meaningful’ way? Awful, awful ad, in every way.

Looking forward to the 2021 version where Nora rescues Gina from a life of mind controlled CIA sex slavery in the off-Broadway theatre world.

Although this is Ireland, we’re always a few years out of date, so that probably won’t happen until 2023 and instead the 2021 ad will be Gina returning to Ireland to pole-dance in a satanic mass aimed at having Nora elected as our first female Taoiseach – which ultimately doesn’t work because the Irish electorate are miles ahead of the political elite and now justly suspicious of the whole celebrity world, pole-dancing, political spin and indeed Barry’s tea ads generally…

this is beautifully shot and all but is it really meant to be an advert as is? maybe it’s just pre it’s live TV staging. like I don’t know a single person who uses Vimeo….I know what it is but most people I know would use YT like a tv in comparison. one lad I know used it for his college portfolio work but….don’t drink much tea anyways, coffee angel for me usually!
