Thank you. All of you who voted for Sinn Féin. Your vote counted. We are your party. We will now do everything we can to secure a government for the people. We will never leave you behind. We will never let you down. pic.twitter.com/6uCmETLTo3

@cian, anything on DLR yet?

cheers
mitchell O Connor looking like retaining her seat?
Alas, yes. All those John Waters transfers (887)….
going to be interesting to see transfers – she’ll obviously get the bulk of barry ward’s
I dunno. A lot of them may go to Carol McNeill
Not looking good right now for MMOC – https://www.rte.ie/news/election-2020-constituencies/2020/0122/1110158-dun-laoghaire/
Nope. MMOC is gone. Carrol MacNeil got in.
Wonderful, she has lost her seat.
Now is the time Ireland has to take a proper grown-up decision.
If you want a united Ireland you’ve voted for people with blood on their hands.
And even if you just voted for the Shinners as a protest you’re still voting for people who have murdered your fellow countrymen as innocent as you without having a second thought.
This ordure just got real baby.
Lessons in ‘proper grown up decisions’ from an Englishman, you say?
This is an epic election. Not as epic as 1918 but a close second.
I have met them at close of day
Coming with vivid faces
From counter or desk among grey
Eighteenth-century houses.
I have passed with a nod of the head
Or polite meaningless words,
Or have lingered awhile and said
Polite meaningless words,
And thought before I had done
Of a mocking tale or a gibe
To please a companion
Around the fire at the club,
Being certain that they and I

Ah Janet; if only you “did the leaving” in the 70s you wouldn’t have to ask.
I was born in the 70’s ;)

That poem was on the Inter Cert syllabus, not the Leaving
I see Murphy will get in, a pity the again I heard a good discription for some of the areas in his district ‘leafy and blue’
Thainig àr là!
And RTE’s reporting just now showing last nights exit polls, and portraying it as fact almost.
Any truth in the rumour that Stephen Donnelly has just joined SF? :-)
you heard it here first!
I heard he’s changing his second name to O’Portune
I see even Alan Dukes is changing his tune. He’d do anything for a Senate nomination.

It seems that immigration gripped the electorate about as much as Brexit did – 1% deemed it to be ‘most important’ in deciding their vote.

Little Ireland joins hands with the little Englanders . What a depressing day to be Irish.
A political class who seek to eliminate competitive marketshare at the detriment of its own people’s wider welfare is the same as a political party who recognise that their opponents have consistently failed to effectively respond to genuine issues that concern a broad social identity? Do you think it interesting that neither immigration nor bogey brexit feature in the reasons provided by voters but issues like homelessness and health figure strongly? It’s almost as if the focus on economic growth has not brought with it the obvious benefits you would expect of a socially responsible political agenda. Perhaps the lesson has been learned now.
…best laugh so far was Richard Brutal blaming the media for FG woes…

Doom! Doom! Doom!
Give it a rest Chicken Little.
big brained Michael McDowall on the tv now to tell me why I did it wrong again no doubt

Anyone Iistening to radio1?
Does John Bowman not know how to say the words Sinn Fein?
It’s hilarious Listening to this Establishment dinosaur :)
In 2 topics discussed, Mayo taIIy resuIts and women eIected/newIy eIected not once were the words Sinn Fein mentioned by the whoIe paneI but FF/FG mentioned at every opportunity hmmmm strange isn’t it?
RTE appear to be kissing up to FF as much as possibIe!
And so the media bias continues, I hope it comes back to bite them very soon :)
It needs to be privatised and sold off to a Kenyan oil billionaire
can You imagine
I love kittens
Why don’t you just admit your bias against Sinn Fein.
Jeez, there’ll be some knees-up on the Falls Roads tonight.
You won’t be able to get a black cab for love nor money.
G’wan the Shinners !
( actually I probably shouldn’t mention knees … )
How is Peter “The Road Less Travellers” Head-Casey doing in Donegal and Dublin?
Very poorly :)
Probably losing his deposit in both.
Ya love to see it.
Bottom of the poll with just 495 votes for Casey in DubW. LOL! People’s real concerns indeed.
SF’s Donnelly top of the poll and elected with a 3,370 surplus. Leo just under 250 votes off being elected. Joan pretty much out of the running.
Is that Aengis Ó Snodaigh’s wife in the photo with him who threw a beer glass at a garda car and resisted arrest after a Sinn Féin meeting?
And is that his son who squared up to and spat at a garda…and also resisted arrest over a disputed taxi fare?
It may not be. They may be different people, to be fair.
In any case, those are amongst the least terrible things Sinn Féin supporters have fired at gardaí.
Do you do anything else except whining Justin?
What’s wrong with what I said above? Isn’t it all true?
Give it up ffs, Ireland is moving on from the kind of negative narrow minded thinking that you regularly display on this site. Stop living in the past.
Lol. Sinn Féin thuggery and aping of Venezualan economic policy is not “moving on” anywhere good.
That narrative has really worked out for you and your ilk hasn’t it? Bye…
Sure has ;)

I don’t get it. You’re suggesting that I be nice about Sinn Féin because it might mean they win fewer seats? Or more?
Telling the truth about Sinn Féin isn’t about votes or seats. It’s about telling the truth about Sinn Féin.
You’ve lost the argument, if you want to continue screaming into the abyss then go for it.
What argument?
Sinn Féin are intertwined with and represent murderers and terrorists. There’s no argument there.
to coin some football quips…
“play the ball, not the man!”
also
“have you lost the dressing room?”
which arms tribunal did you learn about in school justin?
what realpolitik said,
she also called the gardai “Free state bastards” for some reason.
how O’Snodaigh is allowed to hold a seat after his involvement in the IRA spying is beyond me. but then again, there’s the happy bomb maker Dessie Ellis being lofted on shoulders to the banking of rebel songs
The backward editor crawls out from under his rock.
Lol
The new years resolution is out the window
Rotide is one of the few on here who has a bit of backbone. Well done to the Oirish today. You truly have regressed as a nation. Big , rough ugly men and women wailing to Ira song…. It truly reflects where you have arrived as a nation.
Bitter FFGer alert.
Anti EU
Anti Special Criminal Court
Unicorn economics
Rapists
Bank Robbers
Murderers
Congrats ReproBertie on being a hard -faced supporter of all of the above.
LOL!
Show me where I said I supported them.
Lol . Show me where I said I was a bitter FFGer
ah rotide! how are ya now!
He’s probably trying to work out how you are going to earn 400 euro a month to support the future union. 11 billion a year and I expect all the shinners to pay.
Considering what broadband and hospitals cost 11bn isn’t bad.
you’d have thought there was money to burn
Haughey literally ran guns for the ‘Ra and his son is still living off the family name.
Tg4 are allowing Éamon Ó Cúiv ramble on about SF’s performance in Northern Ireland. Must be some shipment of sour grapes going around the count centres.
Ó Cuiv’s failed effort to get Fianna Fáil runners in the North saw him get a slap from his own party and he’s still sore about it. He may yet dust down the old Anti-Partition League and wrap his grandfather’s green flag around him (omitting references to grandpa’s importation of Albert Pierrepoint, an English hangman, to execute Charlie Kerins)
Or the fact that he stole the monies raised in the US for the new state and set up the Irish Press with the cash and kept the shares for himself. That’s the start of FF. and it all makes sense after that.. O’thief and c.10 TDs will leave FF, when the coalition with FG starts, and look to join SF.. Mary Lou, don’t have them.. they are the cancer in the body politic..
continuity fianna fail, I like it.
He’s probably being interviewed as he is one of the few TDs who can reliably answer off the cuff questions in Irish.
Unfortunately it looks like the gombeens in Meath west have voted to keep the backwards looking fellow gombeen from aontu in the dail.
It seems there hasn’t been enough urban creep into Meath west to bring the collective iq up.
The shiners singing come ye Black and Tans is the sort of backward looking plastic nationalism scumbaggery that puts a lot of people off them.
I hear it’s to be the new national anthem when Mary Lou becomes uber taoiseach
Orange faces everywhere
Not enough people, unfortunately:
Shinners: “Stop bringing up our past, we’ve moved on, why can’t you?”
Also Shinners:
Control your thumbs Rob..
I always figured you wanted to be ruled from Westminster, and this confirms it. Not even a home ruler. A fan of the tans.
Óinseach
I just am generally against murdering people.
except when it’s the tans, got it! bet you were sorry the RIC commemoration didn’t go ahead.
Interesting times for Ireland coming up. With a coalition between FG, SF, and FF! I wonder if that would be possible? Probably not.
Up the ‘Ra tattoos will be selling out!
They don’t go away, you know!
Congratulations to Broadsheet on its great election coverage!
Thank you, White Dove, from us all.
Indeed – fair dues to Broadsheet coverage. And nobody can point the finger at BS for this turnout – not even Paddy Wifi-WebSummit….
Unlike The Journal – LOL.

Eamonn Ryan beats SF and is elected on the first count!
Want Green, vote Green!
And SF beats the leaders of FFG in the first count. The shame of it.
No sympathy for them. They’ve turned a blind eye to all the problems people are facing and are reaping the rewards now.
Yep. Spot on.
Ryan’s seat though is almost always guaranteed. Kinda like Brendan ‘I topped the poll’ Howlin (who didn’t, but who will hang on due to the charity of myself and some others.
Closeted millionaire leader of the Labour Party.
An absolute disgrace.
Sinn Féin beat Willie O’Dea in Limerick! Maurice Quinlivan elected on the first count. Willie’s about 30 votes short.
It’s not homophobia Leo- nobody likes you..
Welcome back SOQ – if it ’tis you!
So when the dust dies, will there be heaves against Varadkar (seat losses) and Martin ( party members want him to talk to SF), and if so, how soon?
FG party rules mean that after an election if the leader of the party is not Taoiseach then their position is up for challenge.
Martin will talk to SF but will they be interested?
Do you think SF could swing it? GP on carbon tax issue could be sorted? Wasn’t a hard line issue for SF, I think.
I think Varadkar won’t be guaranteed support. Coveney is waiting in the wings.
If FF talks with SF, I’d reckon SF will be interested. Given that FF proclaim themselves to be The Republican Party, it should be a fairly natural tie up.
SF will want another election in 6-12 months and try to capitalise on their current support. FF and FG will lose more seats.
If SF are sharing power they will pull the government down at their leisure. I can’t see either FF or FG going into partnership with them if they can avoid it.
Between yourself and the underscoring Rob, you’re a bowel of laughs, Cian, aren’t you?
Steph – do you ever have anything interesting or stimulating to say?
Or just invoking my name on random threads where I haven’t actually posted anything yet?
Hahahaha, Rob, maybe I fancy you! Seriously! You’re such a big, tall taxpayer with a goatee [in Belguim] with Irish money to spend in hotels and restaurants – what’s not to like, you Fine [Gael] thing? x
I suppose I will have to take that as a ‘no’…
Hahahaha, Rob, maybe I fancy you! Seriously! You’re such a big, tall taxpayer with a goatee [in Belguim] with Irish money to spend in hotels and restaurants – what’s not to like, you Fine [Gael] thing? x
Robert – you can take it any way you like or not at all – it won’t rent space in my head. I hear there’a a lot of snow in your part of the world at this time of year – enjoy :/

Little birdie tells me that Leo’s soldiers aren’t getting the expected reaction on the doors in his constituency. He might survive, but it’s not a foregone conclusion according to the birdie.”
Am giving up reading comments due to the above dung!
Eh – SF got more first preferences than him. the first sitting taoiseach not to top the poll. So, my Birdie was fairly spot on as regards the reaction on the doorsteps.
Don’t forget https://youtu.be/9Gc4QTqslN4
How is any of what Gidggedy wrote untrue? Leo suffered massively in his constituency. Not in on first or second counts.
In fact I see now that Leo has just been reelected on the *fifth* count. That’s fairly telling.
Was kind of hoping he would not get in. I’m starting to wonder did he want to be reelected at all, it was Otis Blue who I saw saying first. Or even the whole party, see Noonan sticking the knife in and saying Donohoe would be better in charge.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence indistinguishable from malice…
Wouldn’t it have been hilarious to see? His arrogance is tremendous – almost unbelievable. Can anyone really be that tone deaf? Can’t see him lasting as leader of FG, that’s for sure, never mind as Taoiseach. Coveney is just biding his time now.
+1
Be assured they wanted back in. But it was obvious their ground game was in rag order. Round my way they held two from three seats in 2016; now there’s every chance they’ll get nothing. People have been seething and waiting in the long grass. As Millie rightly suggests they’ve long been tone deaf. FG are absolutely useless at the actual business of politics. It’s their arrogance that has undone them – witness the high handed attitude to even talking to SF.
And Coveney? No thanks. He lacks the goods.
exactly the arrogance, thinking they can ignore again a clear message from the people they are meant to be working FOR
Great to hear that Joan Burton just lost her seat.
Yes. She managed to sow the demise of Labour too.
I hope that those who voted for Sinn Fein are affected most by their fairy-tale policies and nightmarish principles if they get into government.
Nice to see the sore losers out in full. I hope that bitterness burns a hole on the way down.
I hope that every sin committed by Sinn Fein pays you a visit MIllie
That’s a truly nasty sentiment. Well done on scraping the barrel.
can’t pay any attention to that Milly, just illustrates the true colours of that mentality
Bottom of the barrel, as I said. I know exactly what he’s trying to infer with his comment, and frankly it’s disgusting and shows exactly what sort of person he is.
exactly
Don’t engage with Tim; Rob who underscored in life has posted similar vitriolic comments.
Tim but Dim https://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationopinion/11764687/In-defence-of-the-Tim-Nice-But-Dims.html
And I hope they also pay you a visit Giggidy Goo. You deserve it
Boy, the blueshirts are really smarting. So bad, that even A Person hasn’t posted anything…. oh wait….spoke too soon.
I hope you reap what you sow . Gigiddy .
Time for you to toddle off Tim – the fraperoom is closing.
“… “Come in! For it’s growing late,
And the grass will wet ye!
Come in! Or when it’s dark
The Fenians will get ye…”
MMOC off the plinth in DLR….
Along with Mrs. Pensions, Hannifin. This has been a good day.
Did she drive off it?
Delighted to hear…same with Hannifin
MMOC fell off it. Already on the phone to Ballsy O’Connor and friends in the Sindo whingeing about sexism and gender-specific quotas, etc., etc.
Fantastic news!
Bye bye Regina. Collect your PSC at the door.
Big time. DWTS 2021 for you.
Out on the 6th

That’s a terrific redressing of a wrong, she was a mediocre performer who was way, way, way out of her depth. Lacking in courage and honesty she made a laughing stock of herself with her unleashing gardaí on social media commentators and her mandatory but not compulsory nonsense. Her gobbledygook in place of transparency was an insult to the people of Ireland. Good riddance to the chancer.
Does anyone remember this?
https://www.broadsheet.ie/2013/09/11/we-have-to-look-at-the-situation-where-gerry-adams-could-be-the-next-tanaiste/#top
Okay, not The Boul’ Gerry, but Mary Lou – it’s not inconceivable at this stage, or perhaps higher? “We won’t leave anyone behind”, said Mary Lou,clearly having a dig at FF, previously named Sinn Féin who agreed to handing over the top bit of Ireland to Britain.
I think Ireland has become a tad smug over the past 30ish years – the investment from the EU made farmers who were previously struggling to be more than comfortable. Construction of new builds created jobs – lots of people had money, perhaps for the first time – cue The Celtic Tiger – ex-pats couldn’t afford to move back to Ireland (especially Dublin) because of spiralling prices of rent. The affordable housing issue has been a crisis for as long as I remember, with promises, but no resolution The “Crying Chair” posts on BS illustrates just this.
Maybe Sinn Féin in Government will shake the “Tiger” and country awake, . I’m aware of the dissenters of SF, but did anyone hear of The Good Friday Agreement?
I remember “The Golden New Dawn” speech by Tony Blair in ’97 – I voted Labour (living in London type). I’m wondering about the title to Mary Lou’s speech, perhaps, “The Totally Green Dawn”?
Michael Lowry and Simon Harris retain their seats
smh
Lowry will be in his grave and still be getting the nod in.
Any idea why Mary Lou didn’t have a running mate to pick up her transfers? She was always going to get a big vote.
always wondered how the surplus votes were selected for distribution, anybody ?
Randomly
explain random , it is a concept that has eluded mathematics, I’m not being obtuse, I really want to know how returning officers can be unbiased
As I understand it, those counting the votes look at the most recent parcel of votes that the winning candidate received i.e those that brought the candidate over the quota. These are then allocated according to preferences stated.
No, it’s not random. All the next preferences are counted and divided out in proportion (thanks V).
And Jason Donovan is the latest big name for Forever Young
Can this year get any better?
