Excellent colour piece on Sinn Fein/IRA by David Jones in the Daily Mail.
Much of the detail will be familiar to an Irish audience but less so in the UK where I get the impression there are more people in favour of a united Ireland than there are in Ireland.
As with Scotland it would be nice to see the back of the neanderthals who run NI politics.

The “Irish” Daily Mail and I use the word “Irish” very loosely contains more English reports than Irish ones these days. Take today for example, theirntop of front page is an exclusive on the British Royal Family, yesterday they had Harry + Megan (more British Royal stories) on their front page. How they expect anyobe to pay €2 for an “Irish” paper that is basically the same as the one in England, with about 10 token Irish ages, beats me. Their sales have reduced drastically in the last 2 years from 0ver 55,000 to now under 25,000 now so continuing with this strategy of minimal Irish content is very strange. Obviously some Irish people do follow the British Royals, but going by Sinn Feins good result last week, I can imagine seeing Royal stories nearly every day on their front page will alienate a lot of potential readers. They have reduced the number of Irish staff drastically in the last few months, so clearly it is now seen as a money making exercise by the bosses in London.

Thankfully for footy fans the League of Ireland is back on so Irish people don’t have to watch that awful English Premier League stuff.

I agree that 2 euro is a lot to pay each day when you can read it free online, and have a more up do date version to boot! And environmentally it is better.
All newspapers are losing sales.
I do agree with you when you write about all the royal stories. They need to realise they are producing an Irish paper so having so many royal stories on their front pages is odd.
I used to get the Daily Mail a few years back and one aspect did always strike me. That was their letters to the editor were mostly from English readers. I always found that odd.If they had no Irish people sending in posts why couldn’t they just make up some! T’would be better than having English ones! Looked really bad. I don’t know if that still happens.

For some reason my last post never appeared- with reference to that 2017 report you mention f_lawless.
But just like the Telegraph, which has the same owners, the Spectator often functions as little more than a mouthpiece for the British ruling class and was part of the media campaign to demonise Corbyn and hype the “anti-Semitism crisis” in the UK.
The author of the blog post is cherry picking information in order to spin and dismisses the JPR’s own calls not to jump to any alarmist conclusions that a “problem-centred” report can potentially give rise to just, because(?). When you consider that the Muslim community in the UK face far more significant levels of Islamophobia yet where are all the articles of concern from the corporate media pundits?

“It is worth stressing a fact that runs the risk of being understated in a problem-centred report: levels of antisemitism in Great Britain are among the lowest in the world. British Jews constitute a religious and ethnic group that is seen overwhelmingly positively by an absolute majority of the British population: about 70% of the population of Great Britain have a favourable opinion of Jews and do not entertain any antisemitic ideas or views at all. In this respect, Jews are in a similar position to some other religious minorities, most notably Hindus
While 30% of British society hold at least one antisemitic attitude, to varying degrees, this emphatically does not mean that 30% of the population of Great Britain is antisemitic. ..The existence of strong, sophisticated, perhaps internally coherent and at times even ‘learned’ antisemitism, where open dislike of Jews is combined with developed negative ideas about Jews, does not exceed 2.4% of British adults“

Do you agree that there should be a nation wide British investigation into institutional misogyny in the same way as racism f_lawless?
f_lawless
I don’t know. I haven’t read up on it to have much of an opinion on it. I guess as long as it’s fair, balanced and not politicised, any investigation that sheds a light on institutional discrimination of any kind is a good thing.
As far as I’m aware there’s been no such investigation regarding institutional racism in the UK (not in the political arena at least?) and, as it now seems that Judaism is increasingly defined as a race or national origin, not just a religion, I would say there’s been a disproportionate amount of focus falling on anti-Semitism and the Labour Party. What do you think?
some old queen
Stephen Daisley has quite a different take on that 2017 report.
I think what Maajid is trying to do is remind British muslims who their bedfellows actually are. They are the most antisemitic group in the country after all and it makes sense that the larger the muslim population gets, the more antisemitic views there will be.

You remember him surely ? The darling of the entire Democrat-supporting media. You couldn’t turn on a US TV show without him boasting how he was going to bring down Donald Trump and boy did the media soil their pants in excitement.
Such a shame that yesterday he was found guilty of all charges of trying to extort $25 million from Nike in an old-fashioned shakedown.
This sleazeball is going to the slammer for a loooong time.
Mostly from around that time I remember the personal lawyer of the president and the head of the Republican National Committee going to jail and a certain ‘Individual 1’ being referred to as his unindicted co-conspirator. Avenanti baiting Trump was fun for the ten seconds it lasted.
Charger Salmons
Remind us again who is still POTUS and looking forward to a 2nd term ?
The Democrats have flung a lot of mud at Trump but nothing has stuck yet.
Nigel
Actually all the mud has stuck. He’s a walking mud monster. It’s just that’s the sort of candidate favoured by the right nowadays.
Charger Salmons
Come back to me on November 15th and we’ll see who is right.
Four years of Clinton denying she lost, the Mueller investigation, impeachment attempt and virtually the entire pro-Democrat US media has produced the square root of diddly squat.
Trump, meanwhile, has produced a booming US economy, low unemployment and unprecedent job opportunies for black and ethnic minorities.
Another 225,000 jobs were added in January ,well above market expectations.
And he hasn’t started a war.
I know who my money is on …
Nigel
Right about what? If he’s re-elected it will just prove the abject embrace of gangsterism by the right, which hardly needs much proving at this stage. You can’t prove me wrong about Trump, except in the Orwellian 2+2=5 sense which admittedly is your modus operandi.
Charger Salmons
It never ceases to amaze me how many people who like to think they occupy the moral high ground also support politicians who never win elections.
No-one loves a sore loser.
Beau Le Ratt
I agree with Nigel but I argue that it’s a moot point.
You simply cannot win against Ol’ Charger in this fight my friend. Just ignore her.
Britain won’t have internet access by October, never mind November.
Nigel
Well you certainly couldn’t mistake Trump for anyone with any moral values, that’s for sure, but definitely the sort of person Charger likes to toady for.
…lose:lose for the world whoever has their finger on the button…lots of people alive today because it wasn’t crooked Hillary…
Nigel
Absolute nonsense. Assad and Putin are merrily slaughtering all around them, to say nothing of the idea that inaction on climate change won’t have a body count.
…Assad has bravely resisted Western interference bent on regime change with help from his Russian, Iranian and Lebonese allies…he is on the cusp of victory…a lot depends on Turkey…
Nigel
Or in other words, a brutal strongman supported by ruthless imperialists with geopolitical interests in maintaining his blood-soaked regime. He’s a torturer and a murderer of children. This is why your ‘people alive today’ schtick about Clinton is so sickening.
Pat Mustard
“He’s a torturer and murderer of children..”
Have you a link to this?
Ghost of Yep
You get that inserting strongwoman, her and she’s you could be describing Clinton…right?
…nothing strong about crooked Hillary…nothing brave about precipitating regime change from thousands of miles from danger…
Nigel
No, I get that Obama’s mlitary interventions were catastrophic failures. but I also get that no, neither he nor Clinton were being a ‘strongman,” that’s a category error, and that the entire global international community failed and continue to fail to unite in non-miltary intervention in the face of horrific ongoing humanitarian disasters, often because they’re great for the weapons trade.

This bomb that didn’t exist?
“The explosive device was discovered after police searches on the Silverwood industrial estate in Lurgan, County Armagh on Tuesday.”
I was referring to RTEs breathless report of a bomb that was on a trailer on the docks in Belfast, which was to be shipped on 31st on a ferry to Scotland. The breathless report told us of the potential dire consequences that could have had…..and the report finished that the PSNI found no such bomb. That non-existent bomb.
And the bomb you mention – any updates?

Trump, meanwhile, has produced a booming US economy, low unemployment and unprecedent job opportunies for black and ethnic minorities.
Another 225,000 jobs were added in January ,well above market expectations.
And he hasn’t started a war.
I know who my money is on …
Right about what? If he’s re-elected it will just prove the abject embrace of gangsterism by the right, which hardly needs much proving at this stage. You can’t prove me wrong about Trump, except in the Orwellian 2+2=5 sense which admittedly is your modus operandi.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people who like to think they occupy the moral high ground also support politicians who never win elections.
No-one loves a sore loser.
I agree with Nigel but I argue that it’s a moot point.
You simply cannot win against Ol’ Charger in this fight my friend. Just ignore her.
Britain won’t have internet access by October, never mind November.
Well you certainly couldn’t mistake Trump for anyone with any moral values, that’s for sure, but definitely the sort of person Charger likes to toady for.
…how many has crooked Hillary killed compared to Trump…and she wasn’t even president…
The Republicans being notably free of any association with killing people.
…lose:lose for the world whoever has their finger on the button…lots of people alive today because it wasn’t crooked Hillary…
Or in other words, a brutal strongman supported by ruthless imperialists with geopolitical interests in maintaining his blood-soaked regime. He’s a torturer and a murderer of children. This is why your ‘people alive today’ schtick about Clinton is so sickening.
“He’s a torturer and murderer of children..”
Have you a link to this?
You get that inserting strongwoman, her and she’s you could be describing Clinton…right?
…nothing strong about crooked Hillary…nothing brave about precipitating regime change from thousands of miles from danger…
FG want a rotating taoiseach. It would of course be a case of a rotating roasting.
If so, it’ll more than likely be Coveney and Martin. And the Dail will meet in Cork instead of Dublin. ROFL.
Roll on the FFG ‘coalition’.
A clearly defined line at last between government and opposition.
And FFG/RTE/Dinnymedia have now got to try figure out some other means of attacking SF.
And just to say – Paul Quinn – not a peep from the aforesaid FFG RTE Dinnymedia. What a shameful bunch of users, It’s actual abuse. They did it to Mairia Cahill, and to Austin Stack. Used them to try score political points.
No mention either of the supposed truck bomb that didn’t exist on 31st Jan, Brexit Day.
Yes, roll on the next general election.
This bomb that didn’t exist?
“The explosive device was discovered after police searches on the Silverwood industrial estate in Lurgan, County Armagh on Tuesday.”
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/feb/07/continuity-ira-admits-brexit-day-lorry-bomb-plot
Lol
Proxy bomb. Propaganda by proxy.
