Ah yes. A sweet little love song. You can’t beat them.

Mine is the song we had played as our first dance at my wedding 17 years ago or so.

It’s ‘I Will’ from The Beatles White Album.

A sweet lovely little melody from Paul McCartney and was meant just as that. A lovely little love song. Lyrics are perfect and not complicated as love can indeed be. Or get. So for the day that’s in it, have a listen and enjoy!

Did she never see Back to The Future . wasnt that the song when Lorraine Baines and George Mcfly have their first kiss.

      1. f_lawless

Marvin Berry was a character from Back to the Future if I’m not mistaken (fictitious cousin of Chuck Berry)

    Zero 7 & Sia – Destiny

A modern take on the love song. Sia longs for her lover while watching porn in a hotel. It’s sensual and heartfelt with just the right amount of sleaziness.

“When I’m weak, I draw strength from you
And when you’re lost I know how to change your mood
And when I’m down you breathe life over me
Even though we’re miles apart we are each other’s destiny”

The Look Of Love – Dusty Springfield singing the ultimate love song by the incomparable Bacharach and David.

“Let’s take a lovers vow and seal it with a kiss.
I can hardly wait to hold you feel my arms around you, how long I have waited
Waited just to love you now that I have found you, don’t ever go.”

It could easily be Juice Newton’s Angel of the morning

But really, when it comes to the slow set and the clingers, its all about Laura Branigan for this 80’s girl, I had the hair, the big shouldered belaro jacket, the leggings – the lot, except the voice of course,

    and the man

Love is Mystical by the Cold War Kids

Hear the organ, listen to the drums

“And when my heart won’t break
An empty space between my lungs
And when my knees won’t shake
    I’ll drink to find inspiration
‘Cause I’m a red blooded man
But I can’t see behind the sun (I can’t see behind the sun)
    A supernatural plan
Is coming to meet me now”

And its dedicated to Simon…you are a free spirit pal and I’ve learnt to accept it, brought me some wisdom too x

Neil E – you feel the same, distance

Who says we cannot love multiple people..!

George Michael – Jesus to a child

George’s tribute to his boyfriend Anselmo Feleppa who died two years after they met.

    “Loveless and cold,
    With your last breath,
    You saved my soul,
    You smiled at me,
    Like Jesus to a child.
    And what have I learned
    From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
    And just when it began
    He took you away….”

Just beautiful & heartbreaking all at once

When he sang that in Dublin a few years back, I cried. I’ve never cried before or since at a gig and I didn’t cry when he died, but that song… devastating.

  7. Slightly Bemused

First dance I had with my crush was the theme from Hill Street Blues. As an avowed ABBA fan, my favourite song of theirs is The Day Before you Came.
But despite everything life has thrown at me, I remain a committed hopeful romantic. For reasons I cannot explain, ever since I heard it as a child and despite an evolving understanding of music, my favourite song is, was, and remains The Real Thing and You To Me Are Everything. I sang it to my best friend, who was a girl, in the year it came out, just before we moved home and came to the town I now live in and call home. Everytime I hear it I still think of her, even if it was puppy love.

And the finest ‘Real Love’ song as written by Bob Zimmerman…
    Is Your Love In Vain
Unfortunately not available on YT, so…

    Verse III
All right, I’ll take a chance, I will fall in love with you
If I’m a fool you can have the night, you can have the morning too
Can you cook and sew, make flowers grow?
    Do you understand my pain?
Are you willing to risk it all?
Or is your love in vain?

As a young fella I was a big Kris Kristofferson fan and although the love song wasn’t his most common theme, this one was hard not to like:
    When I Loved Her.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlwP2jFBKgw

I’d like to dedicate it to a couple of lads and lassies who shared a loyalty to K.K. and his music; back in those innocent, less-critical days. We swore we’d always be pals…and more…and would gather whenever he toured Ireland to try and relieve those earlier days.

It would have been hard to imagine then; but we’re not even acquaintances anymore.

Dance Me To The End of Love by the great Mr Cohen.

Dedicated to the husband, who can’t dance, but will still twirl me round the living room to this later. For all the he comes home with no flowers, chocolates or card for me, but always with a something special for our little lady.

*For all the times he comes home with no flowers, chocolates or card for me… Etc.

Damn the lack of an edit function on the app.

Damn the lack of edit function on the husband!

But sounds like he is doing right. Enjoy the evening, millie :)

That’s a great choice milly, a fabulous singer and songwriter and much underrated poet. The first concert I ever attended was Leonard Cohen at the Stadium in 1976 and I’ve loved him ever since.

      For Anne.
      With Annie gone,
      whose eyes to compare
      With the morning sun?

      Not that I did compare,
      But I do compare
      Now that she’s gone.

When we first started going out, the car only had an aul tape-deck and we only had one tape. The Best of Billie Holiday came with us everywhere. Times have moved on, the tape-deck is long gone, the tape is lost. But this is still our song <3

Gentlemen, love is not for the faint of heart and if you lack confidence you end up like Billy Bragg, The Saturday Boy
In the end it took me a dictionary
To find out the meaning of ‘unrequited ‘

    It’s a long, long road
    And a thin, thin line

    I’ll stop now.
    My mind is at ease.
    I have rubbed it out.
I will forget about it until the next time.
