This makes sense… Dublin City Council is to trial the pedestrianisation of South William Street and Drury Street later this year, according to today’s @thetimesIE. Details to be announced “soon”. pic.twitter.com/04hxlZDxKy

FINALLY! Both those streets should have been pedestrianised ages ago. This is great news.
Finally indeed. They’re such scaredy cats for just ‘trialing’ it. Once pedestrianised there’s no reversal.
Where will all the 4X4s go when leaving BT’s cor pork?!
Sure, they can park & shop in Arnotts and the Jervo instead. The Ilac has good spaces too : )
But… but… they’re on the north side!
But where will BT shoppers park their massive range rovers?
Won’t somebody think of the range rovers!
About time DCC! Hope they follow through on this and brazen out the criticism of the Car Park lobby (who usually manage to have this type of scheme put down)
have been saying this for years. they should add Exchequer st and fade st to the mix
and Wicklow st and Clarendon st
Yes, they should pedestrianise every street between Grafton street and Georges street. There’s barely enough room to walk on those paths as it is and it would make a lovely area out of it over time.
yes and put up a fence to keep out the panhandling scumbags
when the hipsters (article title ‘free the hipsters’) need their coffee and donuts or whatever is trendy, where will they get them from? They will magically appear in their cafe on SW and Drury Street. Or does some low paid van driver have to park and block traffic on another street and bring the order in.
d It can arrive via Cargo Bike, ideally e-assisted. There is no need for vans/trucks inside the canals.
Perhaps they could take their deliveries in before 10AM like on Grafton St?
yeah, great point…let’s not DO ANYTHING!!!!
fair enough, good replies.
that was a very magnanimous response, d :)
There would be fixed times for deliveries during low footfall times like there have been succesfully for decades on Grafton Street.
Silly. They will arrive by drones
Cue a new Temple bar strip. grogans etc can add another million
And Tommy still warm in the grave

So what Quarter will this be?
The Pfft, I-was-pedestrianizing-here-way-before-it-was- cool-Quarter…
(PIW-PHWAYB4-CÜ Quarter for the estate agents)
Or we could have a nice area with cafes and bars where families can perambulate, without risk of death by crushing, and reduce the air pollution and be a little closer to a real capital city, like grown up civilised cities in Europe. As opposed to trying to be a mini Los Angeles where the car is king and human beings and social spaces are actively opposed.
I was discussing this recently with someone and we both surmised that pedestrianisation could be a terrible thing for all the current businesses on those streets. Footfall will go up, rents will get raised, all the old indie shops and restaurants will get the boot, all the big internationals will swoop in and set up, and we’ll end up with another Grafton street. I think it is a brilliant idea, and long overdue, but I’m a bit apprehensive of what the potential risks could be to the character of the area.
I misread that as “..all the old nudie shops…”
Is miss fantasia’s still open? – asking for a friend, obvs
YES…em yes, I think so.
I like to go in and touch the lacy things sometimes.
They are, sadly, not real lace. Can confirm that the nipple clamps are definitely real.

Hmmm; a long time previously I’m guessing?
Thanks, Paulus, fixed noiw. Sorry
I think its just madness that cars are allowed to drive down past the Stags Head/Mercantile especially when the streets are full of revellers. It needs to be extended all the way to Georges St. This cant come quick enough.
Up the Revellution!
A lot of taxis drop off customers close to Grafton St turning up South .William St to exit the area . I’m wondering while I think this is probably a decent idea how restricted access will affect foot fall. There needs to be some route kept open to allowed taxis to drop off.
Speaking of declining standards – has anyone been in the Canada Goose section downstairs in Brown Thomas’s lately?
