Marmite is no longer just a toast topping with leading chefs adding it to everything from scallops to pasta

When I’m sitting down for a feast
I want no trace of extract of yeast
So this new Marmite fad
Is making me sad
And I won’t eat out until it’s ceased

    Wonderful stuff.
Not only does it have strong umami-producing glutamates it’s a perfect start to the day on sourdough toast.
With a nice mug of Yorkshire Tea.
Mrs Charger swears by it in her Irish stews.
Vegemite would be my second choice but Bovril a poor third.
    Marvellous.

Does Boris really have gout? Sorry for the chap and everything, but contracting a chronic disease of Edwardian dandies is such a Boris move…

Marmite is great for giving a meaty flavour to sauces in vegetarian dishes (or even for making gravy for meat dishes).

i’ve never actually tasted it. i recall there was a jar of it in the grannie’s house when i was a kid, and it smelled like a sweaty corpse. myself and my brother used to threaten each other with it.
