Everybody Stay Cool

The patient is reported to be in Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast

This evening.

BBC Northern Ireland reports:

A case of coronavirus has been diagnosed in Northern Ireland, the Public Health Agency has said.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride said the adult had travelled from northern Italy via Dublin.

He said the patient had contacted a GP and had taken steps to self-isolate.

He said the case had showed a presumptive positive result and in line with established protocols, it had been sent to laboratories in England for verification.

They have been clear: it was only a matter of when, not if!

I was amused watching the RTE news this evening, and they had a doctor on. While he was fine, he was older, spoke well and with reassuring tones. I mean him no disrespect, but it just struck an ‘all is fine’ vibe which in films is used when everything is about to go to pot :)

Because the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, they said!

so our patient #zero (if indeed they are the actual first) arrived into Dublin Airport from Italy enroute to Belfast earlier this week

that’s 1x planeload of people who have been exposed are potential carriers and have passed thru Dublin airport where it’s now in the building on who knows what surfaces

apart from the rugby this is a big couple of weeks for the rich schoolkids who pass thru the airport arriving back from the skiing trips

I wonder did #zero drive up from there, collected by someone special, get the Aircoach perhaps….?

Authorities silent, not a peep. Are they tracing and testing all #zero’s contacts? the passport control agent etc. etc. hope they are all ok

surely this yoke is well spread across the country already by now tho

From another news source: “Authorities said they are working rapidly to identify any contacts the patients had, with the aim of preventing further spread.”

Actually, the authorities have been very open about this, and have been clear they are trying to trace all contacts.

But hey! Why not be alarmist about this?

ah Slightly I’m not trying to be, just hadn’t seen this reported in any of the normal places. I know it’s inevitable sure I know 2 different people who’ve been thru the airport this week alone. Just wish everyone well thats all

Well, if there’s no information forthcoming as to how he travelled to the north, if it was public transport, how would people know whether to come forward – i.e. how would they be traced and identified? Does this person know everyone he came in contact with personallly?
The flight, with its recycled air for 2 hours, may have had 200+ passengers. You can be certain that there are carriers and infected people as a result.
But sure – Alan Farrell on The Late Debate now knows it all – but the callers in aren’t convinced.

So she would have had to take a bus or taxi to the railway station. Ticket sales would be in cash or online. The chances to find the online buyers would be good – provided GDPR allows it – but not the cash ones. But we are into all sorts of permutations now. Hopefully she will be OK.

I know, delighted to share it

        Tis this lad Strabanistan @dingo_1916
Give him a folly – even just for the conversations that string under his own tweets

        LOLs all day long

That old Frilly follower has definitely changed my former twitter experience around in fairness

It’s already in the Republic of Ireland. Plenty of missing students in UCD classes today – “self-isolating” no doubt.

it’s time to put together a covid-militia to hunt down anyone who’s been to or thinking of going to Italy, and beat that fupping virus out of them

Does this mean the Royal Twosome’s planned visit to Ireland could be cancelled on coronationvirus grounds?

On a positive note (no pun)- what this will do is force home working and in turn, hopefully make some people realise how much time, energy and money is wasted on commuting and how so many face to face meetings are completely unnecessary.
