Unfortunately, I think we know the word of the year — covid19. I can’t see many big events proceeding this year. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Trade discussions, EU-stylee.

    2016
May: We want a special bespoke deal.
Barnier: You can only choose from the pre-packaged options.

    2020
Johnson: We want to choose from the pre-packaged options.
Barnier: Oh, no, you’re so close to us you need a bespoke deal.

Looking forward to next week’s start of months of trade talks through gritted teeth behind surgical masks in hazmat suits.

I am curious however that you -Broadsheet- post stuff that bypass the filter. What’s that’s all about? Again just curious.

Chompsky is the filter, or so we are told. I believe foul language is offensive to his sensibilities.* Sometimes (and I think possibly at the discretion of staff) the occasional swear or bold word gets through.

*I have this wrong. Nobody has delicate sensibilities at BS Towers. Chompsky is not ‘the filter’ – that task is shared by all of them. It’s quite simple. Many years ago, Broadsheet, responding to complaints about bullying and toxicity in the comment section, decided to replace name-calling and aggressive/rude language with silly childish euphemisms. They thought it would be a way to make the comment section more pleasant without simply deleting comments, also a bit of fun. The same rules apply to everyone. They themselves retain the option of using whatever sailor talk they deem appropriate or amusing.

I hope I didn’t cause offense with my comment btw, which was not the intent. It was simply my understanding of the situation from previous comments made by admin/staff and not meant as a dig. You know I enjoy attempting to subvert the filter, such as it were.

            Patience Fisted.
            These things take time.
And they could get a whole lot more complicated with coronavirus.
Mind you there’s a good chance they’ll have found a vaccine before Ireland finds a government …

The Permanent Secretary of the Home office isn’t anymore. Preti not looking so pretty.
    Right gas in Boris’s kingdom.

I’m surprised the employment prospects of a British civil servant should bother you.
What a dull life you must lead.

What’s wrong in being a lobbyist for the only democratic country in the Middle East ?
They don’t discriminate against gay people either.

In fairness- I reckon Charger has taken it for the team more than once and- it never changed him.

Regular observers of my oeuvre will know that I’m happy to engage with either sex.
I find verbal jousting is good for the spirit .
Insults are fine if they’re delivered with a rapier-like wit and not a blunt machete of abuse.
Bring it on I say.Take the rough with the smooth.
Otherwise we’re all just somnolent drones.

          3. jeremy kyle

I used to think that way too Charger until I realised it’s long winded excuse for being a boop boops.

Galway is one of my favourite parts of the British Isles.
The folk are friendly and the way of life is agreeable.
            Why not live here ?
And stop waving that pitchfork at me.

          2. Janet, I ate my avatar

you must be very different in real life if they are friendly :)
(btw the British Isles stuff isn’t going to get a ride out of a Nordie first generation Dub blow in) The Brittons were once as Gaelic as we, cue some Roman, Saxon and Norman influences and it all goes tits up ? ;(

          3. some old queen

Yes- her response to going back to England was interesting and- in what way was her fake hair blessed?

Naakai Dzole Addy – the Irish Times article is virtually unintelligible – creative writing indeed.

  4. f_lawless

I see the Irish Times is re-printing disinformation about the ongoing situation in Syria. No change there.
    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/middle-east/turkey-asks-russia-to-step-aside-in-syria-1.4189222

“(Syrian)Government forces, backed by Russian air power, have waged a major assault to capture the northwest province of Idlib, the last remaining territory held by rebels backed by Turkey.”.

No mention that Syrian government forces are attempting to once and for all, rid their country of what’s been referred to as “the largest collection of al-Qaeda affiliates in the world” there in Idlib – estimated to be up to 50,000 jihadi fighters. But according to the Irish Times, Al Qaeda terrorists are just “rebels”.

No mention either that Turkey is an illegal invading force in Syria and that Erdogan’s troops have been fighting alongside Al Qaeda.
