EU social distancing.

This afternoon.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar takes part in a video conference with the heads of other EU member states to discuss the coronavirus situation.

I can hear you, can you hear me?

Feck.

You’ve frozen again.

I had an electromagnetism lecturer in college who couldn’t turn on the projector system. You just had to plug it in and press the ON button.

Do you mean other countries like the UK where Cheltenham is happening? Or other countries like the USA where their president is saying the virus is a hoax perpetrated by the democrats? Or other countries like China where they suppressed all talk of the virus, denied anything was happening and arrested people for commenting about it on social media until it became too big to hide anymore?

In Ireland we’ve followed the ECDC and WHO guidelines to try and contain the virus. If, as is looking likely, it gets to the point where we need to move from containment to delay and then to mitigation I’m sure we’ll follow the guidelines from the same bodies of experts.

On a side note about the washing of hands. I used be a volunteer ambulance driver. We were taught how to correctly wash our hands (you have probably seen the vids or pics about this). It has become second nature..

But for those who say ‘why are they teaching us to wash our hands?’, I have a challenge for you. Prepare food with a strong smelling ingredient – cumin, garlic, paprika, for example. Wash your hands as normal. When done, smell your fingers. If you can still smell your ingredients, you did not wash your hands correctly. And even when you do, it may take another round of scrubbing.

These are just smells. They merely cling. But viruses actively want to live, so they will cling to everything they can to survive. Edges of nails and finger tips are very often the worst culprits.

I realised this tonight when coating my dinner in taco seasoning.
