The headline makes me wonder what the Morning Star would make of the fact that Ireland’s government (or the last one at least) and most political parties want to ban particular protests even in public places.

What’s the name of the building where the Irish government sits?
The one where new laws are passed?

The “Your father works for my father” club helping each other out again per the front page of the Examiner! If 12 football fans from Jobstown were caught doing drugs and had no previous convictions, I doubt they’d be given the benefit of the doubt on appeal for their “mistake”. Cops must be raging they’ve gotten away with it.

good look finding 12 mates from jobstown with no previous convictions.

come on , that was funny.

When I was growing up (in Jobstown) the guards regularly stopped the lads to empty out their pockets and generally intimidate them. Imagine doing that outside of the Wesley. They wouldn’t get away with it of course..but find as much if not more
Rob_G
I grew up in a more middle-class part of Dublin, and was often stopped by the Gardaí and had my pockets checked – Gardaí do this to any group of loafing young lads.

Makes you wonder about Rachel Allen’s son’s First time conviction.

Is this going to be another Iran situation? Big age differences mind.
You have to wonder how it is getting into political circles so quickly.
…kind of reverse of the plagues of old where the poor and disadvantaged were the most vulnerable and those who could afford it headed for the hills…

Good to see (in the examiner) that rich yuppie twerps get their drug convictions over turned on appeal so they can proceed towards being pillars of society. We nearly missed out on 12 more hypocrites judging others from behind the wheels of their luxury cars which they’ll park outside opulent houses. Thanks God cocaine use isn’t a serious problem and these luvvies won’t be throwing away “all they’ve worked for” (ie, everything that’s been handed to them on a platter by their parents).

Professor John Crown laid it on the line on The Tonight Show last night. Lock everything down- NOW.
The ‘undocumented Irish’ season is upon us again. For some reason it’s always a St. Patty’s (heh) story when a FG Taoiseach meets an American President. we have had 9 years of this regurgitated clap trap headline.
Rob_G
I have to say, I agree with you.
If Nigerian or Georgian or Chinese or Albanian ministers made representations to the Irish government that illegal immigrants from their respective countries should be allowed to stay because “ah shure, they’re great craic”, the Irish public would have a poo-fit.
Ghost of Yep
Considerably different but undocumented is undocumented.
Rob_G
Is it, though? In what ways?
Ghost of Yep
“Ireland” is embedded in the roots of the USA. It’s only in the last 20 we have people wanting to move and work here from around the world.
Rob_G
“China” is also embedded in the roots of the USA, but I doubt the Chinese government expects their illegal immigrants to get an easy ride of it.
Janet, I ate my avatar
correct, built the railroads, drank tea so didn’t die as easily
Rob_G
Also, most of the people in the states who are still illegal would gone there in the past 20 years – Ireland was already a wealthy country by then, so our citizens actually have a much weaker moral argument than illegal immigrants from a poor country like Albania or Pakistan.
Janet, I ate my avatar
yup, the same people who scorn those fleeing war and famine are the same who are panic buying loo roll…bet you anything

@GiggidyGoo What is your obsession with FG? every Taoiseach has brought up the ‘undocumented Irish’ issue.
GiggidyGoo
At least Bertie Ahern told the truth when he said “The concept of an amnesty, wiping the sheet clean is just, it’s not on. People shouldn’t be trying to give an impression that something that isn’t on, might be on. It’s no good saying that. I’ve talked to all the people involved in it.”
But FG like the soundbites. They meet the US President for what – an hour – how much time (if any, by the way) do you think Kenny and Varadkar spend on the undocumented in the discussion?

But that is one country. No other EU country has seen that kind of progression.
Why would Ireland be like Italy rather than, say, Germany?
GiggidyGoo
And the size of the Lombardy region compared to Ireland is? And where, mostly, have the infected people in Ireland returned from?
some old queen
The core reason why Italy’s numbers are so much higher is because the virus reached there first- at this point the only unknown is why Germany’s mortality rate is much lower.
It is noticeable that since the country went into lock down, Italy has reported no new cases over the past 24 hours and does not appear to have had any new deaths either.
Italy has screened far more of the population per million than anywhere else in Europe of course.
That site in particular has been crying out for redevelopment for years

Democrats have learned nothing. Biden is not going to beat Trump. I’m a Bernie supported (with a vote). All to be said about Biden is “oh, gawd”. He reminds me of a Taoiseach appointment to the Seanad here.

Outrage when rugby types get off. No outrage when salt of the earth gougers walk around with multiple convictions, free to commit more crimes. Why is this?

The rugby types are free to commit more crimes because they know they’re more likely to get away with it.
