“All Countries Need To Review Their Strategies Right Now”

at

This evening.

Members of the World Health Organisation, including executive director Michael Ryan (top), hold a press conference, in which Mr Ryan said that all countries now need to reassess their “strategies” toward the coronavirus.

It follows the WHO declaring the Covid-19 outbreak a pandemic.

As per usual, Ireland is going sit on it’s hands and wait for Britain to make a decision. NI is important but that does not prevent the ROI government from taking action to protect Irish citizens.

Then, even without the power of authority, the Stormont assembly will follow suit- ESPECIALLY the DUP.

Can we stop the people who travelled to a race meeting in Gloucestershire from returning or at least put them in on an isolation raft?

personally I hope they close the airports and stop the ferries but watch now as they try every BS excuse imaginable to carry on with this rich people shouting at horses and making the few bob farce despite everything that’s happening…shame on them all…I do wonder how many Irish politicians are caught up in it, hm?

afaic fupp them all – let them stay over there until they are tested and declared fit to travel, stupid irresponsible c—s

and who knows, maybe they’ll enjoy eating tins of baked beans and arguing over who gets to use the last of the toilet roll parked up in their Range Rovers on the hard shoulder on the A55 outside Holyhead

      LOL

I’d agree with all of that except the “rich people shouting at horses and making the few bob farce”.
Horse racing isn’t just for the rich…

Owning a horse – yes for the wealthy.
But any eejit can get on them.

          Hi Cian
yep, there’s many levels and it’s a swipe granted but just so you know via family contacts of mine I know plenty of fellas in the building trade (who you’d nearly consider throwing change to if you passed them in the street) who disappear over there for 2 weeks at Cheltenham time with wads of cash. I’ve been privvy to the trip over on more than one occasion as a child, seen it first hand. don’t judge the book…etc. we’re splitting hairs here but trust me very very few poor people travel over from Ireland for the Cheltneham festival. its a cash fest.

      Hi dylad

if it had been Foot + Mouth disease it would have been canned but presumably a few old people count less than sale-able livestock

      1) per Wikipedia:
In 2001 the Festival was cancelled due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain. The meeting had initially been postponed to April, but when a case of the disease was confirmed locally, putting the racecourse within an exclusion zone, all racing had to be called off.[10]

      and on March 9th:

If the WHO are convinced countries aren’t doing enough, then why aren’t they telling countries what to do? Or are they? I don’t know what to think.

No Cian, you are completely factually incorrect e.g.

          https://politi.dk/coronavirus-i-danmark/seneste-nyt-fra-myndighederne/nye-tiltag-mod-covid-19

          New Coronavirus Measures:

All public servants who do not perform critical functions will be sent home as soon as possible and no later than Friday, 13 March 2020 for two weeks. As far as possible, they must work from home. If this is not possible, they will be sent home with pay.

All private employers are encouraged to ensure that as many people as possible work from home, walk away or take leave while observing contractual obligations, eg. exports and supplies.

Calls for physical meetings, etc. to be held only when absolutely necessary, and for other relevant measures to be taken to ensure appropriate workplace behavior.

All indoor cultural institutions, libraries, leisure facilities, etc. For the first two weeks, no later than Friday, March 13, 2020, for a fortnight. Public service providers are excluded. All private providers, self-governing institutions, voluntary associations and religious communities, etc. are strongly encouraged to do the same.

All schools, educational institutions and day care centers are closed. Emergency care for children of parents with selected job functions.

Ban on gathering more than 100 people indoors on the road.

The government is investigating the possibility of imposing additional restrictions on entry into Denmark. This applies to possibility of forced medical examination on arrival, possibility of forced quarantine on arrival from red areas, possibility of rejection of foreigners from red and orange areas at the border.

“Better act today than regret tomorrow.”
That was the mantra when Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Wednesday evening shut down Denmark in a wide range of areas in the next two weeks.

At this stage, I’d suggest blocking out all news and getting on with your life. Eat well, stay close to friends and family, and refuse to get swept up in the panic. A few weeks ago it was nothing but Brexit, now it’s nothing but this.

      1. Brother Barnabas

        that’s great advice, lilly

if it’s not an impudent question, where did you get your expertise into the molecular mechanisms of viral pathogenesis?

        1. Lilly

Apologies BB, that was an irresponsible comment. I went down a rabbit hole last night reading all sorts of info online, mainly because I felt scared. I know nothing about the molecular mechanisms of viral pathogenesis as you’ve probably guessed.

          1. Brother Barnabas

            :)

            no worries, lilly

I’m all for baseless, uninformed comment on broadsheet – as you’ll see from my own comments !

      2. Itchysays

Based on many previous comments of yours lily I simply assumed you were an idiot, now I find my opinion vindicated and am elevating you to the status of absolute moron.
Jesus christ, your comment takes the biscuit when it comes to ignorance and selfishness.

And seriously, the like of which is probably going to contribute to the death of many loved ones.
        Well done.

        1. Redbeard

          Bravo, Itchysays!

Taking a screenshot for posterity before Broadsheet edits your post into something about kittens.

        2. Lilly

Okay, please ignore it. I’ll freely admit to being confused and certainly don’t want to see anyone come to any harm. I’m no scientist and feel overwhelmed by the all the contradictory information I’m hearing.
