Green Party leader Eamon Ryan outside Leinster House last month
This afternoon.
The Green Party released the following statement:
“The Green Party Parliamentary Party met this afternoon and agreed that, in light of the unfolding Coronavirus crisis, the party are calling on all parties to suspend discussions on forming a majority government and work towards forming a crisis national government to be reviewed in three months.”

Yikes.

Yesterday: Never Let A Virus Go To Waste
Great now we can get rat arsed at home. So much cheaper dont ye know
Hopefully they extend off licence opening hours so!
I wonder what will happen to the green’s vote share in the next election when everyone who thought they were voting for an alternative discovers they just voted for yet another iteration of FFG.
Google ‘2011 general election’ and let us know what you find..
+lol
If you ban baptisms GOD ONLY KNOWS what evil will be unleashed upon us.
Throwing fuel on the fire.
The Greens crave power so much they’ll do and say anything. I’ll be taking my vote back at the next election. Considering going in to coalition with FFG shows us they simply can’t be trusted.
In this instance Eamonn they are not wrong- in fact their proposal does not go far enough.
I’d read it as an all party temporary government. No problems with that I think. Unless they’re calling for a FFGR only one.
Man, someone should really let them know that the people who voted for them only did it because they wanted them to not have any power.
haha
(true)
Amazing the difference 24 hours make- where is Clamps anyways?
Outside I’d say.
Fair play.
Seems a sensible proposal considering the circumstances.
Proposal will include all parties so now lets see the response and which parties really are willing to put country before party.

Greens say they won’t go into coalition with FFG.
Will Michilín be the only FF leader that wasn’t Taoiseach?
Where have all the shinners for govt people gone? Where are all the “we need an alternative”. No sign of SF, PBP or any leftist suggesting an alternative, or any real change now.
That is SF at a glance. All mouth and no action.
Tune in. https://www.broadsheet.ie/2020/03/11/the-revoloution-will-be-televised/
Right-wing group hug.
Notice the deflection from the actual subject matter (failure of FG to act decisively). Harris, Varadkar and Holohan making a right mess – the only time in Varadkars tenure that he is called upon to lead, and he flunks it. Then you have Harris giving out misinformation on Prime-time last night – not surprising as he also is noted for flunking. And today another death of a rough sleeper to add to Eoghan Murphys CV.
No. The subject matter is the formation of the next government.
Exactly – Failure of FG to act decisively. ‘We want to be in opposition’ / ‘Well we will talk to FF’ / ‘We would go into coalition with FF’ / ‘We will talk to the greens’
Glad we agree on something.
ROFL. The boys are cracking up. Mickey and Leo don’t know what to do. Even the Greens won’t kiss them.
The government in waiting is FFSF. Once Mickey gets his marching orders. Varadkar happy to run away into opposition.
ROFL
It should be a crisis government of all the parties & candidates elected. Ryan is absolutely correct.
15 ministers + Taoiseach + Tánaiste = 17
1 per 9.4 seats.
SF, FF and FG get four each, one for the greens and the others can fight over the last four.
“The Greens say closing pubs and restaurants at 6pm for two weeks and nightclubs, cinemas and theatres should be considered”.
That’ll really help – NOT !
Shure, no-one could possibly get the virus outside of a pub, after 6pm ! And, no perfectly formed virus would be seen down Leeson St. in the wee small hours !!
Like – Come on..
F.
I heard yer man Éamon Ó Cuív being interviewed earlier on about this Govt of national unity lark
don’t know what his past politics are like but for a FF’er he came across pretty direct and straight – I’d say he’d have a fair chance of wiping M.Martin if there’s a leadership row in that camp
He is DeValera’s grandson. Good stock. Lost out to MM last leadership election.
There are no words to describe how horrible that odious creature is. A back-back woods man if ever there was one..
if that’s the case so it’s some measure that he seems to be able to talk straighter than their current “leader” how many times has he changed his mind over the course of that campaign (I think I counted 4?)
anyway was just a twoppence opinion I’m just waiting for the next GE to vote again, this is all kinda moot for me I’m enjoying watching FFG squirm
You’ll be waiting.. Watch Ryan go into government.. even if he losses 3 or 4 td’s..
Yes, despite what he says now, the lure of government is always something the Greens never pass up.
If they do, it’s a case of ‘they’ll never learn’, and 2011 will be repeated next election.
