I heard the same from my (not making this up) sister in law’s sister’s sister in law’s friend. Damn reliable source that.

Of course the state has neither the legal authority nor the numbers to enforce a lockdown. That’s why they asked the pubs to close rather than ordering them.

An all party temporary arrangement is the sensible solution. The morphing of FFG can take place officially after that.

Why is the state enabling the return of 20k gimps from Spain?
They pitched their tents, anyone that decided where they wanted to be last week should have to stand by that choice.
Putting 20k on planes now will most likely introduce up to 20k spreaders. Remember, these are not cautious people as confirmed by their current predicament. They likely won’t self isolate either. They’re a type.
    Leave em in Spain.
    Shut the border now.

People who were travelling abroad in the various hotspots should also be quarantined – in one of the empty nice hotels.

Anyone who left the country for the craic, since the beginning of March, should be sleeping in old-timey scratchy army blankets in the Curragh, doing unpaid admin work (such as they might be capable of) related to the management of the COVID outbreak – data entry, screening calls, digging graves…

I was in a car for a few hours with a friend who later tested positive- she says she’s fine now. I had one night of chronic fever, to extent that didnt know where I was (that was 6 days after being in the car). no symptoms at all before that. and not much since – as said, feel like I’ve a slight hangover.

for what it’s worth, though, if my experience with health service was typical, we’re in good hands. really impressed by how efficient and professional the set up is – it clearly hasn’t been thrown together in a panic; it’s been well planned, well organised, well resourced. very few there when I attended but its apparent they’re expecting a deluge – lined up, waiting.

Hi, I hope you get through it soon, safe and sound but can you tell me what have you been advised to do or have figured out to do yourself?…

      AFAIK..
Viruses do not kill people directly, it’s the per individual immune system response that can cause harm or lead to death based on the immune system health of the person and if there is a possible pre-existing condition like heart disease, damage to lungs from smoking, obesity, diabetes etc etc.

The only natural and easy prevention and cure seems to be by improving our immune system health. – Otherwise it’s prevention/treatment through medication which I have heard is similar to arthritis drugs usually administered by injections but I’m not aware of the full details exactly?

Apparently, Vitamin A(Most important), C, D and Iodine are the keys to strengthening your own immune system. A clean, healthy nutricious diet is key to this and supplementation can be used to help boost it also but be careful as their are a lot of dodgy companies and bad actors in the market.

I’m not a qualified scientist or health expert and I’m not claiming to know 100% truth or facts about what I’m talking about here, so, continue to be a healthy sceptic, willing to question everything… I’m also happy to be proved wrong for the benefit of more factual, accurate and honest information.

          2. :-Joe

@Giggidygoo It’s not pub talk, I was genuinely trying to offer helpful information about boosting your immune system out of genuine concern for everyone’s health and also to find out what people might have been told or have heard could help also.

Open dialogue, discussion, conversation…. something wrong with that?

I don’t see anyone berating @Rob_g for his factually incorrect knee jerk response and ignorant behaviour.

Also, btw, one of the worst things that you can be doing in isolation sick or not and for immune system health and in general is getting into a state of panic or becoming overly anxious or stressed. Trying to stay calm and relaxed is the best way to go and don’t believe everything you hear or see..

There is a rheumatoid arthritis drug which appears to help some as it blocks a certain protein and, there are ongoing tests using high dose IV vitamin C in Wuhan which again, appear to boost the immune reaction. I also posted another new drug yesterday which the FDA gave ‘compassionate use’ permission for.

It looks like for very ill people they are throwing everything bar the kitchen sink at it but Joe is correct, the stronger your immune system is in the first place, the better able you are to fight it off.

          2. :-Joe

            @some old queen…

Ye, I heard that there were two companies with arthritis drugs that can also help for use with respiratory problems caused by the virus.

I just think it’s strange that hardly anyone in the government or media is hammering the point home that by having a healthy and/or a boosted immune system at this time is the best protection and should be everyone’s priority, particularly if you are elderly or vunerable in some way.
            – Along with following the official recommendations by health professionals of course.

Anyway, Vitamin A is the most important preventative medicine from what I understand so far….

“heard mentality”? Is that when all your vague information comes from “dúirt bean liom go ndúirt bean leí”?

Far from abandoning free thought I looked at your post with some critical thinking and saw that it was pure speculation.

          3. ReproBertie

“continue to be a healthy sceptic, willing to question everything” but when I questioned you I’m “an example of tribalised heard mentality where an individual abandons free thought”?

          4. :-Joe

@Reprobertie. Ok, perhaps I was being a bit harsh speculating that you were just jumping on the @Rob_g bandwagon of lunacy..
-In a similar way to many other instances I’ve seen over the years of the heard mentality by like-minded tribalised commentators.
            – Personally I don’t know but maybe other commentators would know if you both have previous form together? I don’t remember nor care to investigate.

To your other point. Clearly, in this instance anyway, your critical thinking is producing faulty logic. Nothing of what I’ve said is based on information from speculation or hearsay. If you had looked at the post below before you posted(twice more before) then you would know what I’m talking about

Also, the fact that you don’t recognise the basic scientific truth at the centre in what I’ve said originally must naturally make all of it seem vague to you.

If I thought I was harsh or wrong I would happily apologise but I don’t see any evidence of you thinking properly at all… Let alone, you actually thinking and questioning anyone for obviously being outrageously daft and trying to have people censored for an open discussion based on general questions of facts and science.

            :-J

          5. ReproBertie

“Nothing of what I’ve said is based on information from speculation or hearsay.”

            And yet your post says
            “seems to be”
            “I have heard”
            “I’m not aware”
            “Apparently”

All of which are indicators of speculation and hearsay.

“I don’t know but maybe other commentators would know if you both have previous form together? ”
I’m picking up on the logic gaps in what you posted and questioning the value of posting it. What difference does it make if I have agreed or disagreed with any other posters in the past? Sounds to me like you’re trying to build a strawman.

          6. :-Joe

I’m not sure that, in terms of different forms of argument, you actually know what a strawman argument actually is.
            – I’m not arguing against a point that you have not made.

To be specific, I’m suggesting that maybe it’s possible you might be jumping on @Rob_g’s crazy bandwagon as evident by the notable lack of any remark to his irrational response to my first post.

You seem to be confusing colloquial, general and cautious use of language with some kind of perceived attempt by me to be vague or spread hearsay or false information.

I can see I’ve upset you and your pal, you’re both acting irrational about it but it’s no big deal…
            – I don’t really want to have to keep explaining it, it’s not really that complicated to understand.

            :-J

          7. ReproBertie

I asked a question based on your post and you responded with insults and insinuation instead of just answering it. You haven’t upset me at all. You’ve just confirmed my suspicions about you. You give dodgy information while trying to distance yourself from it with repeated disclaimers and then make no attempt to defend it. Clearly I was correct in questioning the value of posting it in the first place.

I know exactly what a straw man is. Your references to me not challenging Rob_G’s post and referring to him as “your pal” is a clear attempt to erect a straw man rather than deal with my question.

          8. :-Joe

            @ReproBertie
Firstly. If and I mean IF.. you were not jumping on the bandwagon then fine, I admit I was wrong to assume you were and I apologise unreservedly for that specific mistake.

Secondly, clearly you are upset about this, hopefully only because you are not in fact a bandwagon jumper.

Thirdly, just because you’ve asked a question it does not mean you are automatically entitled to a answer, let alone any response to it and regardless of being replied to about anything else in the meantime.

To answer your original question, which to be honest I had completely ignored assuming you were on a bandwagon… It was not vague at all, I was clearly stating my thoughts and careful not to make claims as if I was the health/science professional/expert etc. that I had heard it from.

You seemed disappointed as if to be expecting a powerpoint presentation and signed affidavids from the world health organisation to confirm what was basic general conversation and offering up some opinion and advice.

Following on from that ridiculous question.. NO it’s actually not dodgy information at all. It’s all based on scientific fact. It’s easy for me to stand behind it and because of you and Rob_g I’ve already posted more information in another post with some more detail about what I was talking about.

Worth the post?… Yes.. Worth the time explaining all this to you…. F*** NO!..

Lastly, you are completely confused about how a strawman argument works and what a strawman argument is in reality.

You can’t bend the logic in every argument you’re either having solely in your own mind or a real one that you just disagree with anyway then put ut into the same fallacy and call it a strawman.
            – I don’t have enough time tonight to get into this now but you’ve even committed your own deluded fake version of your own perceived offence right and from the start.

Personally I think you are looking too closely at something that only you can see and the reality is very different… Your deep focus is making it even harder for you to zoom out, re-evaluate the situation and be objective or reasonable at all.

            :-J

As for the Vit C treatment, obviously those promoting it are natural health type people but I have to wonder it there is also a reluctance to test because it is cheap and cheerful- meaning no big pharma profits.

From all reports there are no real side effects so it doesn’t do any harm and if I was in that situation- I would want the doctors to try everything available.
