Indo: ‘Fear schools won’t reopen until May’.
Those fears are of parents everywhere going mad with their little terrors.
Surely we should be more fearful of the surge that awaits out health system and possible loved ones??
Whatever actions need to stay in place / be introduced to slow down the disease, we need to be supportive of them, not fearful.
…horrified to realise that many parents see schools as primarily a form of childcare…

I’d reckon most do!

Child care..? Are you joking.. crowd control..
Janet, I ate my avatar
in France if your child has no manners they are sent home from school, bringing up two boys in 42m2, you make sure they are obedient, helpful and don’t treat the gaff like a junglegym, when you go out again it’s in small parks or the brasserie and again they need to respect others space and noise levels, maybe that’s what makes the difference, much as I love lots of individual children here, the difference is staggering on the answering back alone and general wildness, I genuinely don’t know why some of my mates make such a rod for their own backs, the upside is the kids are more confident and out going…small doses only though ;)
Janet, I ate my avatar
I know I am wildly generalizing, and it’s not all kids, but that’s my experience, and definitely the brat downstairs … isolation to the backdrop of tantrums may be tempering my mood
TT
Brat in park cycled into me in the park yesterday. Mama just laughed and when I told the kid that he should refrain from cycling into others, as he could injure them, Mama told me that it wasn’t my place to reprimand her kid. I calmly told her that someone clearly had to . Agree with Janet. French kids are just so polite and refined. It’s all me , myself and MY Child ( not all) but with quite a few in Ireland.

I doubt teachers have noticed much difference in the schools being closed this week.
They’re on holiday for most of the year anyway.

Day #5 and still no call from HSE to test
either were not doing any or it’s being barely dripfed, dunno but I smell a rat. test…I’ve been reading online that some are now waiting 7 days…wtf is going on???
at home my mam had something weird happen overnight – we got her an Apple Watch for Xmas and the heart rate monitor started tripping claiming 38bpm. the watch is fine and she knows how to use it. She seems ok but it’s still low now, GP has been called and we’re an inch from calling 999
Janet, I ate my avatar
have you checked her pulse today ?

“..that some are now waiting 7 days…wtf is going on???”….
A worldwide pandemic is going on.

this argument is for a different time for me now but are we fupping testing people or aren’t we?? if we’re not then I can’t see how we beat this, we just go in circles, no??

Well considering a radio doctor can get a test and the results in what, three days?. Something up alright.

Hello numbers.
(Is it ok if I call you numbers?)
In Italy we have been told that the labs can’t keep up with testing, so if it looks like you can recover by yourself you won’t get a test.
Only if they think you need to go to hospital do they do the test. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the same story in ireland, though I believe it is easier for people to accept it if they are told the reason for no test is you look like you will be fine. I can see how stressful it would be to be just waiting without being told anything though.
For the heart rate, can she check her own pulse? My Fitbit sometimes goes a bit crazy if I have it very loose on my wrist, if it is only the watch I wouldn’t worry

Technically denotes the letters “mc”. :-)

I originally typed “M.C.” and had to stop myself. Some habits die very hard indeed.
Hope you and yours are keeping well, 0110, including your mam. It’s very frustrating when you’re being told one thing (and wondering, is it all just optics again, no doubt) and the reality is a very different affair. It makes it especially difficult to keep anxiety at bay. Glad you’ve been keeping us all updated.

UPDATE:
so GP called an ambulance, there was a couple of calls directly to my mam and ambulance arrives. interestingly we were told to open the gate and leave the hazards on my da’s car flashing away I assume to be discrete…but comedy style they arrived blues and twos. the ambulance fella interviewed her from the gate, fetched his kit and came into the house up to her room all geared up (not hazmat but may as well have been) everyone in the house a bit freaked out. anyway he ran some tests and he found an “irregularity” and has just taken her in there now. we weren’t even allowed to give her a hug, nothing, just made sure her phone was charged and had some basics. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like this before, not nice, completely numb tbh. we’re all in the house now just looking at each other. we were told to stay put, not to follow them in
wtf :(

Hope everything will be alright 011. She’s gone to the right place at least now.
