Long Revision

at

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at the launch of a Covid-19 public information booklet at Government Buildings this morning

This afternoon.

Pat Leahy, in The Irish Times, reports:

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said there is unlikely to be 15,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Ireland by the end of this month as he had previously warned.

However , Mr Varadkar warned against any complacency in the fight against the spread of the disease.

Mr Varadkar said in recent weeks that the number of cases could reach 15,000 by the end of March, but with 1,329 confirmed cases as of Tuesday night, this level is unlikely to be reached in the next week.

Speaking during briefing at Government Buildings in Dublin, Mr Varadkar cautioned that while this accounted for confirmed cases, “there are many, many more cases out there that are not confirmed”.

In fairness it’s a bit of a can’t win situation because if they acknowledge the revision of the modelling people say ah sure it’s not too bad after but if they don’t people say it’s all nonsense and overblown cos they were wrong etc etc

There’s many on here, considering their past posts, that’d argue it is likely higher than 15k but it is that we don’t test enough to know exactly.

    Who knows….
I don’t think he should be criticised for the 15k estimate, imho.

Listening to Varadkar’s press conference. We should all be reading the Narnia stories apparently. What a joke. We need a new leader and cabinet asap.

This is definitely somebody pretending to be a virulent anti-FGer rather than somebody who actually is

Hi Amy, Oprah here. Why not try one of my many recommended readings from my hugely successful and popular book club? It might give that mood a bit of a lift.

I’m currently reading ‘Postman Bear’ and ‘Rabbits Nap’ at least once a day and each have little flip panels so you can see who is behind the window curtain, door or gate. I highly recommend them!

The news of home test kits is a game changer- and, it is on blood not swabs which is way more accurate because the nasal levels may vary. This opens the door to a national screening program also of course.

The only problem then is that there will be no reliable infection rates if people do not record their positive results with the health authorities. I expect that an anti body test kit is on the way too.

How did Britain jump way ahead of the game so quickly?

Funny feeling that the entire anti-Leo brigade are gonna have to eat some humble pie in the next few months. Having an MD as the acting head of government has been a god-send.

But I’m sure the far-lefties on BS will disagree in 5..4..3..2…..

Yes. When a doctor gives vital, life-saving advice I tend to follow it.
Have you worked in an emergency department? Have you studied medicine for 10 years? Have you been in regular contact with fellow medical pros for most of your career?
        Because I haven’t.

Neither has Varadkar worked with medical professionals for the most of his career.
However, I do get my information from a family member who just happens to be a doctor, and who is working for years, updating knowledge, dealing with this, and whose opinion of Varadkar and Harris and Holohan in particular is at odds with your opinion.

Really? You think so. I’ll give them this, they’re spinning very well. No real criticism in the press about their climbdown on testing and realisation that they got their approach badly, badly wrong. The Green jersey is being worn by the meek media class.
They’ve wasted time and resources in their misguided approach to testing, pretending we could implement the same testing and contact tracing regime as South Korea was either just plain stupid, delusional or a lie.

there will be many not tested. i’ve had young, fit people call me with symptoms, and if it seems mild and manageable I’m not sending them for a test. I tell them to completely isolate, don’t go outside at all. If they get tested there’s no treatment, they’ll just have to go home and isolate for 14 days anyway. No point risking further infection by sending them to a testing centre. What this means is there are a lot of people with it, who aren’t on record. So those figures don’t tell us a whole lot really.

let’s not forget that usual sicknesses still apply while the virus is grabbing the headlines. I would imagine there are many distraught familys around the country who’s loved ones can’t receive hospital care because of the virus emergency

only a day ago they were saying their projections were on target.
    what a farrago of lies.
but this is the HSE. you should expect nothing else only lies
