I think the current response to the pandemic here has been excellent, and it is in large part down to this man and his clear leadership. I hope that it is nothing serious, and we see him back up and running soon. I would not wish this stress on anyone.

      100%

It’s human nature to follow someone who displays strong leadership and sense of purpose and he has done that, to his absolute credit.

Hope he can feel better with a few days off, takes those days off, and can enjoy the sense of accomplishment when this significant challenge is over.

I think the jury is still very much out. It’s far too early to say whether the radical measures imposed have been proportionate to the level of threat from the virus. How much human suffering will be caused by an economy sent into severe recession or depression as a result? In all probability, we’ll be feeling the consequences for several years to come. There’s also no data to say in any definitive way how effective the measures have been as we don’t know how widespread the virus already was among the general public before the measures were instigated. There’s plenty of experts out there who believe these shutdowns have been a colossal error of judgment and that a different course should have been taken – ie protecting the most vulnerable without shutting down society.

please create and provide a list of these for everyone’s future reference, including the dates they wanted ‘protection of the most vulnerable’ to start from and the geographic location they were referring to.

If this comes around again next year, such information will be most useful in ascertaining who is worth listening to, should a vaccine not be available. It may even save lives.

Sure, I’m happy to oblige you with a list of 12 medical experts and hope you would be open to giving them due consideration: Although asking me to include “”dates they wanted ‘protection of the most vulnerable’ to start from and the geographic location they were referring to” is a bit ridiculous and makes me wonder whether you’re being disingenuous.

I find those making the most compelling arguments to be Professor Dr Sucharit Bhakdi, an infectious medicine specialist, and apparently one of the most highly cited medical research scientists in Germany. Also Dr John Ioannidis “Professor of Medicine, of Health Research and Policy and of Biomedical Data Science, at Stanford University School of Medicine and a Professor of Statistics at Stanford University School of Humanities and Sciences”

          Another 10 listed here:

There’s more but surely that’s enough to make the point that there’s by no means a consensus of expert opinion on this

Nice one, thanks! I don’t consider it at all ridiculous, it was a phrase you used – paraphrased, and the time element is important as these are predictions. It’s great that these quotes are all dated.

I only half agree. I think it was a bit delayed and it was underestimated, and a tragic failure to actually quarantine rather than to ask people to ‘self isolate’ on return to Ireland from abroad. I hope all efforts work out for the best.

Calling off the paddy’s day parade and the closure of schools prior to it was a good idea and should be applauded, get well soon CMO.
