GiggidyGoo
Maybe as well. But I would read that as the company sourced the ventilators and gave the specs and supplier name to the HSE, who then tried to be cute and slyly went directly to the supplier. If (again, if) that was what happened then the HSE will have lost credibility with other suppliers

Odd, if so.

I’d say that the financial outlay would be too much for the company in one go, as they would have to have paid up front too to the ‘far east’ company.

This is about a single person, not a religion. A single person who was found guilty of an appalling crime with very serious doubts as to his guilt….or even the possibility that the crime could have been committed. A person who spent over 400 days in jail for this crime. Who it now turns out is not guilty and the High Court has rightly thrown out the conviction.
Broadsheet ( and countless other media) were quick to point out his (as it turned out, completely wrong) conviction in Feb 2019. They have been very slow to bring BS readers up to date on the story. Probably very busy, I guess.
Janet, I ate my avatar

You know, or maybe you don’t (but you should) that that was said (and apologised for by the person who said it) after the (unsafe and proven wrong) conviction in arguments around a sentence.
Those are not nice words, this is not a nice case. But your attempt to portray it as an admission of guilt by Pell’s lawyer is just plain wrong……a fact that should be clear to you by the fact that Pell was appealing the conviction and (as he has from the start) maintained his innocence.
The lad said it

“The lad said it
A lad under specific instructions from his client.”
You have no way of knowing, at all, that Pell instructed his solicitor to use that argument or that form of words, used in considering his sentencing.
“And it was subsequently reused to get Pell off”
Now you’ve lost me and, given I’ve read the decision of the High Court and kept myself informed, as best I can, of the case, I suspect you’ve got mixed up there.
Pell was acquitted and the found not guilty by the High Court because the unanimous view of the 7 judges was that the jury failed entirely to consider the evidence of witnesses that said the claimed assault in the sacristry did not and, indeed, could not have happened. The HC found that the jury should have considered this evidence and the failure of the prosecution to address it. The HC found that the evidence clearly meant that there was reasonable doubt as to the defendants guilt. A doubt that should have compelled any jury, acting reasonably, to find Pell not guilty of these charges. So the 7 HC justices declared that Pell be acquitted.
That is why Pell “got off” and is not guilty. Nothing to do with those lines that you’ve quoted, which (as I explained) his legal team delivered in an attempt to get a lesser sentence AFTER he was originally found guilty. This was not an admission of guilt, it was a recognition that the court had given it’s verdict. A verdict they were planning to appeal – and have done so successfully.
You really should read the decision of the High Court in this case. It may dispel some of the misunderstandings you have of this case and give you an idea of how, whatever your feelings towards this man or Catholicism, thus was an extraordinarily weak case. http://eresources.hcourt.gov.au/showCase/2020/HCA/12
Perhaps Broadsheet could publish the decision and bring readers up to date on this story – which they published 3 separate articles on previously in 2018 and 2019.

If this is correct then the fatality rate is also being grossly over estimated.
What % of the ‘normal’ flu isn’t reported to the hospitals? The fatality rate for the ‘normal’ flu may be vastly over estimated too?
There is no fatality rate for normal flu as there is no test.
It is never entered as reason on a death cert so the way the two are measured is completely different.
